Report: Real Madrid Close To Securing Inter's Maicon For €28 Million

The Brazilian looks set to rejoin 'The Special One'...
Inter defender Maicon is on the verge of joining Real Madrid, according to Marca.

Since coach Jose Mourinho left the Nerazzurri for the Spanish club after winning the treble at the end of the season, the former Monaco full-back has constantly been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Italians originally wanted €35 million for the 28-year-old, who was instrumental in their success last season, but are now reportedly willing to settle for a bid of €28m. Inter coach Rafael Beneitez's personal assistant, Amadeo Carboni, had already stated that he expects the club to release the player if a sizeable bid arrives.

Inter already have captain Javier Zanetti who could slot back into the right-back position, as well as young Italian full-back Davide Santon.

Maicon is currently at the 2010 World Cup with Brazil, who have won their first two matches against North Korea and Ivory Coast.
