Palermo striker Fabrizio Miccoli will have surgery to fix a damaged ligament in his right knee and will be out for between three and four months, the club said in statement on Thursday.
Miccoli limped out of Palermo's 1-1 draw with Sampdoria on Sunday and appeared to be in tears. Despite reports that the injury was not serious, knee specialist professor Pier Paolo Mariani has confirmed the contrary.
The statement reads:
"Today Fabrizio Miccoli visited the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome and was seen by professor Mariani and he confirmed a partial lesion in his right knee cruciate ligament.
"Professor Mariani has decided to proceed with arthroscopy surgery to strengthen the ligament and it will be carried out tomorrow [Friday] morning.
"If everything is confirmed then the player will be out for three to four months."
