Highly rated Italian defender Andrea Ranocchia has dismissed speculation that Serie A champions Inter are hot on his trail and will go all out to secure his services this summer.
The 22-year-old has made a name for himself at Bari, where he has spent the past two seasons on loan, but his registration is owned by Genoa and he is just hopeful that his impressive debut top-flight campaign will earn him a recall to the Marassi.
“I would like to become the new Alessandro Nesta for Genoa, if they will keep me…” Ranocchia told the Corriere dello Sport newspaper.
“We’ll see. I hear different news every single day. I remember hearing on television: ‘Official: Ranocchia joins Inter’. I thought that everyone had lost their marbles!
“[Genoa president Enrico] Preziosi has invested €4.5 million in me and I hope I’ll be able to repay him.”
Ranocchia has been sidelined since January after undergoing surgery to repair a torn knee ligament but has already entered the final stages of his recovery and is expected to be ready for the start of pre-season training.
