Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu has been handed a nine month ban by the Italian anti-doping Tribunal (TNA) for his double doping test failure in January.
After a long hearing on Tuesday in which the court summed up their investigation, the TNA decided a nine month stop was sufficient for the Romanian striker.
Mutu failed two tests in January after a league match with Bari and a Coppa Italia clash against Lazio.
Sky Sport Italia claim the prosecution had originally asked for a one year ban, but Mutu's defence had argued for a fourth month stop.
Mutu has been banned for two months, meaning he will return as soon as 29 October as he has already served two of the nine months handed to him today.
An official announcement from the TNA and Coni confirming the sentence is expected shortly.
Mutu was reportedly annoyed with the outcome as he left the hearing.
Reports suggest the length of his stop will mean he will be staying with Fiorentina rather than leave in the summer.
