Roma Deserve To Be Top Of Serie A - UEFA President Michel Platini

UEFA president Michel Platini has hailed Roma's revival season as the Lupi attempt to clinch the Scudetto.

Claudio Ranieri revived the embers of a dying Scudetto dream when he arrived earlier this season, and since then he has turned the tables on Inter. Roma lead Serie A by a point heading into Sunday's derby with city rivals Lazio.

And Platini believes they can gain a stronger grip on the title.

"It's a big surprise and we have seen an incredible comeback, an impressive progression of useful results," he told Il Corriere dello Sport.

"In any case, they are a team that leads the standings, and they deserve to. Roma started badly, but then things changed."

However, Platini reminded everyone of Inter's energy-sapping Champions League run. He believes this has strengthened Roma's cause.

"They knew how to press the leaders, but on the other hand Inter seem to suffer the double commitment of Serie A and Champions League," he added.
