Cagliari Boss Massimiliano Allegri Braced For Jose Mourinho’s Retaliation

Cagliari coach Massimiliano Allegri has joked he will have little time to enjoy his ‘Panchina d’Oro’ (Golden Bench) prize as his adversary Jose Mourinho will have his Inter side rain goals on the Rossoblu when they travel to San Siro this weekend.

Allegri was presented with the prestigious award yesterday after being voted the best coach of the 2008-09 season by his Serie A colleagues, despite Jose Mourinho being the overwhelming favourite after leading Inter to the league title in his maiden year in Italy.

“Oh poor me! Mourinho will put three past me on Sunday to get revenge,” Allegri laughed in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.

“Besides, I could have to face the ‘unbeatable’ Inter without a goalkeeper. They are all crocked! Could anyone lend me a ‘keeper?”

Italy international shot-stopper Federico Marchetti picked up an injury last weekend and Cristiano Lupatelli is also on the sidelines, but Cagliari signed Michael Agazzi from Triestina on transfer deadline day.

“I don’t know what to say and I can only thank my colleagues who voted for me,” continued Allegri.

“It’s one of the greatest satisfactions of my career.”
