Player Ratings: Inter 2-0 Milan

The Nerazzurri stepped up a gear in the Derby della Madonnina. rates the participants...

Julio Cesar- 7.5: Was not tested regularly until the second-half, but made some nice saves to deny Marco Borriello on numerous occasions. Made a wonderful penalty save late on to finish the game with a satisfying clean sheet.

Maicon- 7: Brilliant down the right in the first 30 minutes, dribbling past markers and testing the Rossoneri’s lack of pace tracking back. Had a decent penalty shout turned away early on.

Lucio- 6: Merits a higher score but only makes sufficiency due to his late sending off. Put his body on the line to keep the Rossoneri from scoring.

Samuel- 7: A solid display at the back from the Argentine. As Milan huffed and puffed he kept his nerve to deny the Diavolo time and time again.

Santon- 6: Made inroads down the left and always provided an option for his team-mates. He is clearly lacking some sharpness after having fallen down the pecking order a little this season.

Zanetti- 8: A true captains’ performance. He merits the man-of-the-match award for the manner in which he ran the show in the middle. Given his experience in the Stracittadina his is just shaded by a fearless Macedonian hitman.

Cambiasso- 7.5: Kept things tight despite playing for over an hour a man short in the middle.

Muntari- 6.5: The Ghanaian hustled all night long and gave a massive hand at the back after the Beneamata was reduced to ten men.

Sneijder- 3:
The Dutchman started the game in spectacular fashion as he rattled the post with a wicked shot after just 120 seconds. He then handed numerical advantage to the troubled Rossoneri with a foolish gesture towards the match-official.

Pandev- 9: The Macedonian was unfazed in his first Milanese derby and served Milito with a pinpoint ball over the top for the opening goal. By doubling Inter’s lead with a wonderful free kick, he then handed power back to the Nerazzurri just as they were starting to look troubled.

Milito- 7.5: ‘El Principe’ once again showed his impeccable punctuality for the big occasions when he fired home with devastating precision after nine minutes.

T.Motta- 6.5: The former Genoa man was thrown on to sure up the midfield shortly after Inter doubled their lead.

Balotelli- N/A:
The hitman was given a late run-out and did his best to keep Inter driving forward on the break.

Cordoba- N/A:
Introduced in the dying seconds following Lucio’s sending off.

Dida- 6: The score could have been a lot worse if not for the Brazilian. As Inter smelled blood the Brazilian pulled off a number of important stops to keep his side within touching distance.

Abate- 5.5:
The right-back failed to penetrate with enough regularity and could have done more to test the out of practice Santon.

T.Silva- 6:
Not his best match, and was clearly missing the presence of the irreplaceable Alessandro Nesta.

Favalli- 4:
The former Lazio man tried to fill the boots of the missing Nesta but the void simply proved too great to fill. A poor performance.

Antonini- 5: Tried to get forward and produced some decent crosses until his substitution. Unfortunately for Milan he came up against a superior Maicon.

Gattuso- 5: ‘Ringhio’ was run ragged by the Inter midfield in the opening period and simply couldn’t keep up with the lighting breaks of the Nerazzurri. He was sacrificed for Seedorf as the coach looked to take advantage of Sneijder’s dismissal.

Pirlo- 7: By far the best performer in the middle for Il Diavolo tonight. He pulled out numerous pinpoint balls over the top to keep Borriello well serviced and give the Nerazzurri a busy night at the back.

Ambrosini- 6: It was not the most successful of games for midfielder who has been running the show in recent weeks. Often bypassed by Inter’s clever balls over the top, the veteran put in a shift to cover a lot of ground.

Beckham- 6: The Englishman merits a sufficient score for his crossing alone. Much like his teammates however he failed to prove the difference against a superior Nerazzurri outfit.

Borriello- 5.5: The hitman created a whole host of goal scoring chances but unlike Inter’s forwards he failed to convert in a crucial moment of the game. He had a golden chance to level after heading Beckham’s inch-perfect cross over the bar shortly before Pandev’s goal.

Ronaldinho- 5: The Brazilian showed some moments of brilliance but like Borriello he falls just below sufficiency after failing to prove decisive on the night. His missed penalty made little impact on the outcome of the game.

Seedorf- 5.5: His entrance added a new dimension to the Milan offence and some cutting edge, but the Rossoneri were hit just as their tails were up.

Jankulovski -N/A:
Came on late on after Antonini received a blow to the head. Managed to spray an effort high over the bar when the Rossoneri needed to test the Inter ‘keeper.

Huntelaar- N/A: The Dutchman was given little chance to make an impact on the game and could be heading for a loan exit from the San Siro.
