Inter Captain Javier Zanetti Reveals Secret Behind His Longevity

‘Pupi’ says he has inherited his stamina from his hard-working father as he prepares to take another step towards the 500 game milestone in Serie A.
Inter captain Javier Zanetti will make his 482nd appearance in Serie A today as the Nerazzurri pay visit to Chievo Verona.

The 37-year-old Argentine defender has incredibly featured in 149 of the Beneamata’s 152 outings over the past three years and has explained the secrets to his longevity.

“For starters, I sleep a lot,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Recovery after hard work is key for any athlete. Sportive fortunes get built day after day, week after week through a healthy lifestyle.

“I live every training session to the fullest as if it were a final. I took after my father who was a bricklayer and used to build everything step by step, brick by brick.

“Another secret is that I have never had flu or muscular problems. And because of this I can say I was very fortunate.”
