Serie A Team Of The Week: Round 30

BEST XI

Formation:  4-4-2

Goalkeeper

Sebastien Frey (Fiorentina):
He is a familiar name in the team of the week due to his superb reactions. He robbed Valdes and could only be beaten by a deflected effort against Atalanta.

Defence

Gianluca Zambrotta (Milan):
He bombed down the right side, playing in several crosses. Unfortunately for him, it was all too rare someone was available to meet them.

Salvatore Bocchetti (Genoa): The player was recently called up by Marcello Lippi and performances like the one in Calabria illustrate why this is the case.

Philippe Senderos (Milan): He stepped on to replace an injured Maldini in the latter stages of the first half and was solid the rest of the game, even contributing to the opening goal. His best performance of the season.

Maxwell (Inter): After being left out of the team, the Brazilian was eager to prove himself on his return and certainly did so. Will Mourinho opt to keep him at the San Siro this summer?

Midfield

Mauro Camoranesi (Juventus): Another player who stepped on because of injury, he was involved in all three of the Bianconeri's goals. Italy sorely missed his creativity in the latest round of World Cup qualifiers.

Angelo Palombo (Sampdora):
Two long-range strikes and plenty of down and dirty work in the midfield. Where was this effort when he played for the national team?

Thiago Motta (Genoa):
He entered into the match in the second half and showed his full array of talents, giving his side a precious winner against a desperate Reggina side to keep them in fourth place and continue their fairy-tale season.

Marek Hamsik (Napoli):
The Slovakian is regaining form in the final stages of the season. His accurate passing set up both of the Partenopei's goals and he was a threat all match long.

Attack

Alberto Gilardino (Fiorentina):
After having a goal disallowed, he showed determination to grab the winner at the end of the match and keep his side in the hunt for Champions League qualification.

Sergio Pellissier (Chievo):
His first ever hat-trick potentially decided the Serie A title in favour of Inter. The long-time servant to the Verona-based club has deserved a day like he had on Sunday for quite a while.
