Inter Defender Marco Materazzi: Jose Mourinho Is The ‘Special One’

Materazzi has insisted the Portuguese is much more than just a coach…
Inter boss Jose Mourinho may have failed to win over Calcio fans and the Italian media since arriving in the peninsula in the summer of 2008, but Marco Materazzi has profound admiration for the 46-year-old despite being way down his pecking order.

“Mourinho has everything,” Materazzi told reporters yesterday as he attended a charity event.

“He is a coach, a father figure, a man who jokes, smiles and knows how to forge a wonderful relationship.

“Mourinho is special. And if that is coming from one who never plays, you must believe it, because whoever finds themselves in this situation usually talks bad about their coach.

“I spoke with him before I signed until 2012 and I know exactly what my role is.”

Materazzi has mustered only three appearances in all competitions so far this term, but he reiterated he remains committed to the club.

“I will hold on to Inter very tight,” he smiled. “They made me famous and helped me win so much.

“It’s a family here and even a single minute on the pitch is worthwhile.”
