Gonzalo Barreto is now a Lazio player after passing a medical and signing a contract which will tie him to the capital club for the next five years.
According to Lazialita.it, the 17-year-old Uruguayan is set to leave Formello until mid-November as he features in the Under 17 FIFA World Championships. The ‘New Zarate’ will then return to the capital as he looks to settle into his new surroundings ahead of his January call-up to the services of coach Davide Ballardini.
Given the current FIFA regulations surrounding the transfer of players under the age of 18, Lazio have been quick to bring in their latest South American export early, in a similar move made by Milan for Alexandre Pato.
