Sao Paulo's Miranda continues to hold a fixation for Fiorentina, but the Viola will only make a concrete bid for the player if they reach the Champions League group stages.
Sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has complained that the Viola cannot attract star players with their transfer budget of €10 million, although Lorenzo De Silvestri is expected to sign a four-year contract with Fiorentina imminently.
However, the situation could change if coach Cesare Prandelli was to guide his side into the group stages of the Champions League. La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that if Fiorentina beat Sporting CP tonight, their transfer budget will be almost tripled.
Though the tie remains very much in the balance, Corvino has already lined up his primary target.
The Gigliati have been chasing a centre-back for much of the summer and were close to agreeing a deal with Benfica's Luisao, but were unable to match the Portuguese club's asking price.
Brazilian international Miranda is top of Corvino's wish-list, and is valued by the South American outfit at around €10m.
Fiorentina face Sporting in the second leg of their Champions League play-off tie at the Artemio Franchi tonight, with the encounter delicately poised after a 2-2 draw in Portugal last week.
