Milan coach Leonardo has claimed that Inter and Juventus have stronger squads, but sees this season as a "challenge" for himself and the Rossoneri.
I'm happy and excited to take on this challenge," the former midfielder told RAI.
"The bench of Milan is very important and I laugh when the players call me coach, I'm still not used to it.
"Milan has its own historical identity. There are periods when everything goes smoothly and others when we have to sweat more and pay more attention to details like now."
Milan recently played Inter during their United States pre-season tour and the Nerazzurri were the better side as they earned a 2-0 victory in Boston.
"Inter are the favourites right now, Juve are also strong, but I can tell you we can still be a surprise," he explained.
"Our squad is too small and with all the commitments we need to add something more to the names we already have."
After selling Kaka to Real Madrid for
€65 million, Milan have not significantly reinforced their squad, only bringing back Massimo Oddo and Ignazio Abate from loan spells and signing American defender Oguchi Onyewu.
