Fabio Simplicio's contract was due to expire next year, leading to numerous reports that Palermo would prefer to cash in on the Brazilian this summer rather than lose him on a free transfer next year.
The uncertainties surrounding the 29-year-old's future now seem to have been dispelled, however, as his agent Gilmar Rinaldi has announced that a new contract is on the table.
"It's true," Rinaldi told mediagol.it. "We have received an offer from Palermo to renew the contract [of Fabio Simplicio]. For now we are still negotiating but I will go to Italy before the 5th August.
"A draft contract has been drawn up, but there is no improvement as we have been offered the same wage as he has been on for the last three years."
Should Fabio Simplicio remain at the Renzo Barbera, he would be part of an enclave of South Americans on Sicily. Edison Cavani and new signings Javier Pastore and Nicolas Bertolo are among the other South Americans currently plying their trade with the Rosanero.
