Julio Cruz will formally become a free agent tomorrow after the expiration of his contract with Inter, but has yet to decide where he will play next season.
He looks poised to snub a lucrative offer from Greek side Panathinaikos since his wife is reluctant to leave the peninsula, so Fiorentina and Napoli are now hot favourites to secure his services.
“I don’t know, they are important clubs and are both tempting me,” Cruz told Il Napoli.
“Napoli don’t play in the Champions League, but they are still a great club. They have improved a lot over the past two years.
“Besides, [Diego] Maradona is my idol. I was a child when he played at the San Paolo. That stadium gives you goosebumps and the fans are very passionate.”
Napoli have already signed Fabio Quagliarella from Udinese, and Cruz could help form a trident of strikers with compatriot Ezequiel Lavezzi.
“It’s too early to say,” he mused. “When I return to Italy, I’ll make my mind up.
“I have several offers on the table. For now, my agent is dealing with it. I’m on holiday in Argentina with my family. But I’ll be back soon and will think about it.”
