Official: Mellberg Joins Olympiakos From Juventus

The veteran defender has only lasted one season in Turin and will now join the Greek giants...
Juventus defender Olof Mellberg has made the switch to Olympiakos, it was announced on the Italian club's official website on Tuesday afternoon.

The transfer had been rumoured over the past few days and has now come to fruition with the Piraeus-based outfit paying €2.5 million to the Bianconeri over two years, with another potential €0.5 million added on if they win the league next season.

The former Aston Villa man had an inconsistent campaign in Italy, making 27 appearances, but mostly playing due to injuries to team-mates Giorgio Chiellini, Nicola Legrottaglie, and Jonathan Zebina.

Olympiakos comfortably won the Greece Super League last season by an eight point margin and will be hoping the experience of Mellberg is vital in helping them enter the Champions League through the preliminary qualifying round.
