Lazio Fan Arrested Following Trouble At Coppa Italia Final

Trouble broke out following the Coppa Italia final, raising questions over the upcoming Champions League final in Rome...
A Lazio fan has been arrested after assaulting a police officer during celebrations following the Aquilotti's Coppa Italia win over Sampdoria on Wednesday.

Although most of the 75,000 crowd behaved well, there were a few breakaway groups who tried to cause trouble in the streets after the clash. La Repubblica claims there were several minor scuffles between fans and police in the centre of Rome and a 33-year-old man was arrested for assaulting an officer.

Two Sampdoria fans, aged 23 and 32, were also arrested for being in possession illegal bangers, which they were allegedly going to use against the police. Three fans were then given a caution by the authorities. One was a 'Doria supporter who tried to invade the pitch after the match and the other two were Lazio tifosi who let off smokers against the police.

Although the authorities kept the post-match celebrations under control, there are fears for the Champions League final at the Stadio Olimpico between Manchester United and Barcelona in a fortnight’s time.

However, Mayor of Rome, Gianni Alemanno, has already promised that extra measures will be in place for that event.
