Report: Inter Lose Maxwell, But Get Maicon Boost

Maxwell pulled up with a knee problem on Saturday, but fellow Brazilian Maicon could return to action sooner than expected...

Maxwell was left out of the Inter squad that defeated Lazio 2-0 last night, after picking up a knock to his knee during Saturday’s training session at the Pinetina.

The Corriere dello Sport claims that the Nerazzurri medical staff are confident the problem is not serious, but the 27-year-old will undergo further tests on Tuesday and could be sidelined for a few weeks.

However, Brazilian international full-back Maicon is reportedly making a speedy recovery from his muscular problem and could be back in contention for the final three games of the season.

The former Monaco man suffered the setback while on international duty with the Selecao on March 29, during a World Cup qualifier against Ecuador, and there were fears that he would miss the remainder of the campaign.

But he has resumed running and kicking the ball this week and, even though he is unlikely to travel to Chievo Verona next Sunday, he could play a part in the home game with Siena on May 17.
