Karel Poborsky netted a brace against Inter on the final day of the Serie A season on May 5, 2002, helping Lazio to a 4-2 victory at the Stadio Olimpico and effectively crushing the Nerazzurri’s dreams of claiming the Scudetto.
Inter squandered a comfortable lead over Juventus in the final weeks of the tournament and needed a win against the Aquile to claim the title.Inter now have a seven-point advantage over Milan with five games to go and host Lazio this weekend.
“I think Inter could lose to Lazio again and Milan can stage a comeback and pip them to the Scudetto,” Poborsky said to Tuttosport.
“That was a memorable day for me, one of the best in my career. Very few [pundits] were expecting us to win.
“Besides, I already knew that game would be my last in a Lazio shirt. Therefore, I was very happy to leave the fans with a good memory of me. I truly hope they haven’t forgotten me.”
