Jose Mourinho Admits That Inter Were Outplayed By Napoli

The Nerazzurri suffered their third defeat of the season, as they continued their dismal record in Naples.
Inter were stunned 1-0 by Napoli at the San Paolo stadium, thanks to a brilliant goal by Marcelo Zalayeta after 73 minutes of play. The result extended the Nerazzurri’s winless run in Naples, as they have failed to come away with the three points since 1997.

The coach of the Nerazzurri, Jose Mourinho, accepted defeat and admitted that his side did not deserve to win on the night.

“If there was one team that deserved the result to go their way, it was Napoli,” an impassive Mourinho confessed in an interview with Sky.

“It was a typical game that could have easily ended 0-0. In the first half it was fairly even, and we did well to restrict their opportunities. In the second though, we weren’t great, and in the end we suffered.

“It was a dull match, but again, if anyone deserved to win a little more than the other, it was certainly Napoli.

“We did not approach the match with the right attitude, as we showed little determination or conviction.”

The result means that Inter are now seven points clear of their nearest rivals Milan, with five rounds of football remaining.

“There is no need to be worried about the reduction of our lead. I do not need to know how many points Milan or Juventus are behind us.

“All we need to worry about is that we require nine points to win the championship. We have five matches to play, including three at the San Siro. We are in an ideal situation.”

Inter play host to Lazio next weekend, in a match that they will certainly be confident about winning.
