Italy coach Marcello Lippi opted not to use Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi in the recent qualifiers against Montenegro and the Republic of Ireland, despite the player's impressive haul of 15 goals this season. Some have speculated it is due to the fact he plays in Spain.
The 22-year-old has constantly been linked with a return to Serie A, but explained he is enjoying himself in sunny Spain.
"I think this is the best moment of my career. I like Spain, perhaps Italian football is more tactical, but my intention is to do my best with Villarreal," the former Parma player was quoted as saying by Calciomercato.
I don't know about anything that has been said or written. I'm good here," he revealed. "It;s nice to hear teams like Inter, Milan, and Juve are interested in you, but my only thoughts are to do well here at Villarreal."
The ex-Manchester United player joined the Spanish side in a deal worth €10 million in 2007.
