Inter Defender Samuel Has Champions League Desire

'The Wall' is proud to be back on the international scene and hopes the Nerazzurri will challenge for next year's Champions League...
Inter defender Walter Samuel has been a key figure at the back for Inter in 2009 on his way back to full fitness. Samuel and Inter were unable to advance to the Champions League quarter-finals, but the former Roma player still has the desire to win Europe's top prize.

"I look forward to playing in next year's Champions League," he said, according to the Corriere dello Sport, while expressing regret for this year's loss to Manchester United in the continental competition.

However, Samuel is pleased to be a part of the Argentina squad again for their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Venezuela and Bolivia.

"If I find myself back here, it is because I have also had good eprformances with the Nerazzurri. I'm proud to be called up by [coach Diego] Maradona," he concluded.

Samuel joined Inter from Real Madrid in 2005. This season he has continued to struggle with injuries, making only 13 appearances for Inter thus far - though the majority of those were positive performances.
