Inter Suffer Chivu Blow Ahead Of Manchester United Showdown

Inter have been dealt a major blow to their chances of glory against Manchester United as Cristian Chivu will not play in the second leg of the Champions League last 16 tie.

The Romanian international fought long and hard to be at Old Trafford, but he has thrown in the towel this morning and he will not be called up for the clash on Wednesday night.

Eurosport.it claims the defender left Inter's Appiano Gentile training ground early with a problem. He is now out of Jose Mourinho's plans for the trip to Manchester, with the latest reports from Italy suggesting the coach has left Chivu out of his Champions League squad.

It's not what the Nerazzurri would have wanted as they already have a number of injuries to deal with. Both Marco Materazzi and Nicolas Burdisso are also looking doubtful.

The defensive duo picked up injuries during the 2-0 win over Genoa on Saturday night. It is unknown whether either will make the team.
