Arsene Wenger is said to be hot on the heels of Lazio’s Argentinian striker Mauro Zarate, with the player’s agent claiming Arsenal have already made contact.
"I am in touch with Arsenal," Jose Alberto Coppola said, according to lalaziosiamonoi.it. "A couple of days ago a director of the English club asked me about Mauro Zarate.
"Arsenal want to increase their attacking potential and to do so are already prepared to offer the €40 million that will deliver ‘Lotito’ [Zarate].”
Whether or not Wenger would be willing to part with a fee as large as the one suggested may be doubtful, but Coppola confirmed that he thinks they may just accomplish what, he claims, Manchester City failed to do last season.
“Their intention is to succeed where Manchester City has failed last year, bringing Maurito back to the Premier League.”
Speculating on the possibility of a deal going through, the agent went on to claim that perhaps his client isn’t really happy in Rome and may be looking for a move away from Biancocelesti.
“Maybe this time they will succeed, because from what I know Zarate is a bit tired of the situation he is experiencing at Lazio.”
