Robert Acquafresca Closes Inter Door & Awaits Atalanta Move

Robert Acquafresca had hoped to have a chance at Inter next term following two magnificent seasons on loan at Cagliari, but the Italian champions sold the 21-year-old to Genoa as part of the deal for Diego Milito and Thiago Motta.

But he has now decided to move to Atalanta on a season-long loan and the deal should be finalised at the start of next week.

“We still have to wait," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "Bergamo is a welcome destination for me. Both Atalanta and Parma have shown concrete interest in me and that’s what I was looking for.”

Lazio reportedly tried to derail the move in recent days as former Cagliari boss Davide Ballardini was hoping to reunite with Acquafresca.

“Yes, I talked to him,” admitted the hitman. “Of course, I hold the coach in great esteem, but Lazio made their move too late.

“Negotiations were already underway [with Atalanta], I am an honest lad and want to keep it that way.”

But did he pick Atalanta because Bergamo is close to Milan and Inter?

“Inter are a closed chapter for both parties,” concluded Acquafresca.
