USA Women 2019
Jill Ellis' side set a World Cup record in their opening game of the competition and could put their South American opponents to the sword too

USA started their Women’s World Cup in sublime fashion with a stunning 13-0 win over Thailand and will be looking for another strong victory against Chile on Sunday.

Seven different players got on the scoresheet during that clash in Reims and so Jill Ellis’ side will certainly have their tails up for their second game of the tournament.

Latest Odds

888Sport offer USA at just 1/50 (1.02) to take maximum points at Parc des Princes on Sunday afternoon, whilst the unlikely draw trades at 18/1 (19.0).

This will be Chile’s second ever game at the Women’s World Cup and they are 50/1 (51.0) to pull off arguably the biggest shock in tournament history by winning this one.

Team News

Ellis could look to rotate her team although Alex Morgan, who scored a joint-tournament record five goals against Thailand, should continue upfront. She is just 1/7 (1.15) to net again on Sunday.

Chile could line up in the same way they did against Sweden in their 2-0 defeat on Tuesday.

After laying down a marker with the biggest ever World Cup win just a few days ago, USA will be out to back that up with another convincing scoreline against the side ranked 38th in the world.

These two countries played each other twice in September, with Ellis’ side strolling to 3-0 and 4-0 wins, and evidently the favourites are unlikely to have their work cut out to secure another comfortable victory.

Chile held out until the 83rd minute against Sweden but that was largely down to a series of fine stops from goalkeeper Christiane Endler, with her defence repeatedly broken down by the Blagult.

Tips and Predictions

It should be another routine victory for the world champions in Paris but with such little value, turning to the goals market seems the way to go and over 3.5 second half goals is priced at 9/5 (2.80) with 888Sport.

The USA will be buoyed by their last outing but 10 of those 13 strikes came after the break as they wore down Thailand, and could do the same against a Chile side that forced Sweden to wait for glory.
