Thanks for joining our coverage today. Until next time, goodbye!
United now head back to Europe for friendlies against Kristiansund in Sweden and AC Milan in Cardiff, before the real business gets up and running with a home match against Chelsea in their Premier League opener on August 11. As for Tottenham, they meet Real Madrid in Munich five days from now and then take on Inter in London on August 4.
Man United make it four wins from four in pre-season thanks to a 2-1 victory over Premier League rivals Tottenham in Shanghai. Martial hit the post in the first half and then gave United a half-time lead with his first-time shot 21 minutes in, but Pochettino's men looked a lot better in the second half and equalised through a heavily-deflected shot from Lucas with 25 minutes to play. Tottenham looked the more likely to win the match, but Gomes scored a delightful goal - albeit one Gazzaniga should have kept out - to give his side six points from six in the International Champions Cup.
90' + 3' NEARLY A LATE LEVELLER! Lucas, who knows all about scoring dramatic late goals, gets his head to a left-sided cross but he cannot quite guide it on target. The ball drops inches wide of the far post and that will be that.
90' + 1' Eriksen spins inside the box and all of a sudden he has room to shoot, but Lindelof gets in front of the ball. Tottenham have a corner with just seconds left to play.
89' Spurs turn over possession but Son takes his eye off the ball and is unable to create a shooting opportunity for himself. United struggle to take the ball back off their opponents, however, and Son has another crack - this latest effort curls high and wide.
87' Son knocks the ball past Mata down the left but his low cross is too close to Romero, who keeps both hands on it near his front post.
86' Lamela miscontrols a simple ball into his feet from Eriksen, perhaps not helped by the bobbly pitch. United carry the ball forward but there is no direct route through on goal. Tottenham are running out of time to find a second equaliser.
84' United are doing well to keep hold of the ball. Having regained the lead against the run of play, they now have just six minutes to see through for what would be another impressive pre-season victory.
82' GOAL DISALLOWED! Rashford buries the ball past Gazzaniga but the offside flag was correctly raised to cut the striker's celebrations short. Tottenham's players are starting to tire.
Manchester United
80' Credit to Mata for releasing the ball back to Gomes almost as quickly as it arrived at his feet. Gazzaniga should have done better to keep it out but let us take nothing away from Gomes.
A. Gomes
Manchester United
80' GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLLLL!!! TOTTENHAM 1-2 MAN UNITED! United lead again with 10 minutes to go in Shanghai thanks to a fine goal from Gomes. The youngster picks up the ball towards the left, plays a quick one-two with Mata and somehow squeezes the ball past Gazzaniga from a tight angle. It has not been the Spurs keeper's finest hour!
78' Son has options either side and opts to go to his left, where White is waiting. The youngster lofts the ball into the six-yard box but it is a United player who gets to it first. Tottenham look the more likely side to win this match in normal time.
76' With around 15 minutes to play in China, it is time for another drinks break. Remember, we will go straight to penalties if it remains 1-1 after 90 minutes.
74' United work the ball from the left to the right. Dalot takes Mata's pass in his stride and looks to drive the ball into the middle, but it is well dealt with by Foyth. All of a sudden it is Tottenham who are looking most at threat of conceding the game's third goal.
72' Solskjaer's side are really struggling to find any real rhythm to their play. Spurs are looking a lot more dangerous when they get the ball into advanced areas, with Lucas and Son in particular causing a threat.
G. Marsh
J. Tanganga
Tottenham Hotspur
70' Tanganga is replaced by Marsh as Pochettino continues to rotate his squad.
69' United are enjoying arguably their best spell of the second half, but all they have to show for it is a corner that comes to little. The pitch is continuing to cut up here and we still have more than 20 minutes to go.
67' Rashford's chipped attempt fails to test Gazzaniga. United have been below par in the second half but that is a sign they could be about to click back into gear.
Lucas Moura
Tottenham Hotspur
65' GOOOOAAALLL!!! TOTTENHAM 1-1 MAN UNITED! Lucas gets Spurs back on level terms with a heavily deflected shot that trickles past Romero. The Brazilian's shot from 19 yards hits Shaw and leaves wrong-footed Romero with little chance of keeping it out.
Son Heung-Min
Tottenham Hotspur
65' White did brilliantly to keep the ball in play and United failed to clear their lines. Son flicked it in the direction of Lucas, who got a shot away from just outside the box and was rewarded with a goal.
64' The tempo of the match is high, but chances have been few and far between since the restart. Tottenham are enjoying plenty of possession, though they need to start getting attempts on target.
C. Eriksen
M. Sissoko
Tottenham Hotspur
62' Eriksen, still battling to regain full fitness, is on for Sissoko with just over an hour played here.
J. Roles
D. Alli
Tottenham Hotspur
62' Alli, who has not been involved all that much in this second half, is replaced by Roles.
H. White
A. Georgiou
Tottenham Hotspur
62' Georgiou is replaced by White as Pochettino makes three more changes.
60' BETTER FROM FRED! For the second time in his 15 minutes on the field, Fred picks up the ball in a good position and puts his foot through it. This latest attempt is a lot better than the previous one, but Gazzaniga watches it all the way and makes the save down to his left.
58' Son has been very bright since coming on at half-time. He is picking up the ball on the left, the right and through the middle. This latest cross into the six-yard box is blocked before it can reach one of his team-mates.
A. Tuanzebe
E. Bailly
Manchester United
56' Bailly's match comes to an early end as he is stretchered off the field. Tuanzebe is brought on in his place. What a huge blow that is for Solskjaer!
54' Bailly hurt himself when sliding in to block Son's shot. The United physios are on the field and it looks certain that the injury-prone centre-back will have to make way.
52' Son wriggles past a couple of players and finally manages to get a shot away, but it is high over the crossbar. The offside flag went up, so it would not have counted. Following the mass changes at the break, the game is starting to settle down.
50' CLOSE! Son gets in behind and spots substitute keeper Romero positioned off his line. The Tottenham attacker attempts to chip the ball over Romero, but he can only pick out the top of the net.
48' Fred, one of 11 new players on the field for United, has a go from range. The shot is horribly scuffed, though, and it ends well wide of the target.
46' RESTART! Man United, leading through Martial's strike, get us back up and running in Shanghai!
S. Romero
David de Gea
Manchester United
46' There is also a change between the sticks as De Gea is replaced by Romero.
Andreas Pereira
Manchester United
46' Mata is also on for Pereira in central midfield.
V. Lindelöf
M. Rojo
Manchester United
46' Despite picking up an injury against Inter last weekend, Lindelof is deemed fit enough to play 45 minutes here. Rojo is the player to make way.
Diogo Dalot
A. Wan-Bissaka
Manchester United
46' With 45 more minutes under his belt, Wan-Bissaka makes way for Dalot.
J. Lingard
M. Greenwood
Manchester United
46' Lingard, one of those with a point to prove during pre-season, is on for Greenwood.
P. Pogba
Manchester United
46' Pogba, who came close through a long-range attempt late in the first half, makes way. Fred is introduced for the remaining 45 minutes.
M. Rashford
A. Martial
Manchester United
46' Rashford takes over from Martial in attack. The departing Frenchman can be happy with his 45-minute showing.
A. Gomes
D. James
Manchester United
46' James, used from the off in each of United's friendly matches, is off and Gomes on in his place.
E. Bailly
C. Smalling
Manchester United
46' Bailly is on for Smalling in defence.
Lucas Moura
T. Ndombèlé
Tottenham Hotspur
46' Ndombele, named in Tottenham's starting line-up for the first time today, makes way for Lucas.
O. Skipp
H. Winks
Tottenham Hotspur
46' Winks can be happy with his 45 minutes on the field. He is replaced by Skipp.
N. Matić
S. McTominay
Manchester United
46' Matic is on for McTominay in central midfield.
L. Shaw
A. Young
Manchester United
46' Shaw is on for Young at left-back as United make wholesale changes.
T. Alderweireld
J. Vertonghen
Tottenham Hotspur
46' Alderweireld replaces Vertonghen in a like-for-like change at the back.
J. Foyth
K. Walker-Peters
Tottenham Hotspur
46' Foyth will be given 45 minutes after taking over from Walker-Peters.
E. Lamela
T. Parrott
Tottenham Hotspur
46' Lamela is on for Parrott as Pochettino tweaks his formation.
Son Heung-Min
H. Kane
Tottenham Hotspur
46' Son takes over from Kane up top.
Pochettino is perhaps fortunate to still have 11 players on the field as Sissoko appeared to stamp on James in the first half, leading to a coming together between both sets of players. Sissoko was a little off the pace in the opening 45 minutes and may well be one of those to make way at the interval. As for United, Solskjaer can call upon the likes of Mata, Rashford and Lingard should he wish.
Man United lead Tottenham 1-0 at half-time thanks to Martial's strike after 21 minutes, with the Frenchman firing a first-time shot through Gazzaniga at the Spurs keeper's near post. Martial had earlier hit the frame of the goal, while Young also tested Gazzaniga with a couple of curlers. Tottenham's only real opening fell to Alli early on, but he could not find a way past De Gea with his low effort.
45' + 1' NEARLY! James cuts inside from the left but cannot get a shot away. Pogba only has one thought in his mind when the ball is worked to him, though, with his powerful drive flying inches wide of the target. Unlucky!
45' Kane plays in a delightful cross from the right but Smalling is first to it. Up the other end of the field, Martial exchanges passes with Pereira but is crowded out on the edge of the box.
44' Martial is so nearly in behind but he is penalised for a push on Vertonghen out wide. Spurs have seen a lot more of the ball over the last 10 minutes but United still look more threatening when they get forward.
J. Tanganga
Yellow Card
Tottenham Hotspur
42' Tanganga barges into Greenwood from behind and becomes the latest player to be shown a yellow card. That seems a harsh call from the referee given that this is only a friendly.
41' Kane tries to create something in the box but McTominay gets back to cut the ball out for a corner. United have yet to concede in their three pre-season friendlies and they have looked pretty solid at the back today.
Andreas Pereira
Yellow Card
Manchester United
40' Pereira gets his studs to the ball but follows through and catches Kane on the ankle. The referee decides to reach into his pocket for the second time today.
38' Tottenham have struggled to create a great deal in this first half. Alli had a shot saved but that aside they have failed to get the ball into the box often enough.
37' Young has space to run into down the left should he wish, but he instead tries to play the ball through for James. The throughball is cut out and Tottenham are back in possession with a little under 10 minutes of the first half to go.
35' This has been a good period of possession for Spurs, but they are not really doing enough with it. Kane and Walker-Peters exchange passes down the right but the latter fails to beat his man. United need to find some momentum.
33' Tottenham have slowed the pace of the match since the drinks break. Kane is dropping deep to get on the ball, having so far seen little of it inside the opposition area. Can Spurs find a leveller before half-time?
31' Following a two-minute stoppage for both sets of players to take some fluids on board, we are back underway at the Hongkou Stadium. United have been the better side so far and are good value for their one-goal lead.
29' Kane scored from a long, long way out against Juventus last weekend. No surprise to see him take on this free-kick from 35 yards out, then! The attempt is pretty poor, in truth, with the ball sailing high over De Gea's crossbar.
27' There was plenty of talk about the state of the pitch ahead of today's match and, unfortunately, it does appear to be cutting up a fair bit. We have played less than 30 minutes in Shanghai so it is only going to get worse.
25' ANOTHER GAZZANIGA SAVE! Young seems desperate to get his name on the scoresheet today. Gazzaniga is once again equal to the United skipper's curler as Solskjaer's men close in on a second.
24' Replays show that Sissoko appeared to stamp on James in that earlier coming together - no wonder United's players were so angry. With VAR being introduced to the Premier League this coming season, that would have been a red card for the Tottenham midfielder.
23' Sissoko once again takes out James with a strong challenge. United's players are not happy about that and things threaten to boil over. The referee is trying his best to keep the game under control.
Andreas Pereira
Manchester United
21' Pereira spotted the run of Martial and did well to pick out the Frenchman with a nicely weighted pass. The less said about the goalkeeping the better, though!
A. Martial
Manchester United
21' GOOOOAAALLL!!! TOTTENHAM 0-1 MAN UNITED! Having hit the post early in the match, Martial this time finds a way through on goal to give United the lead. Pereira slots the ball down the right and Martial, having remained onside, fires a first-time effort past Gazzaniga at the Tottenham keeper's near post.
21' Wan-Bissaka has space to run into down the right. He twists one way and then the other but Georgiou stands his ground - there has been no way through for the former Crystal Palace full-back so far.
20' De Gea is quick to release the ball but he cannot quite pick out James deep in Tottenham's half of the field. The tempo has just dropped a little over the last two minutes, which is entirely understandable.
19' None of the last 10 meetings between Spurs and Man United in all competitions have ended as a draw, with United winning six of those and Tottenham the other four.
18' COMFORTABLE SAVE! Young bends the free-kick around the wall but Gazzaniga is well positioned to make the save without having to break stride.
16' James' pace is terrifying Tottenham's defenders. Sissoko gets back to help out but he fails to get any of the ball when sliding in on the Welshman, meaning a free-kick for United around 20 yards from goal.
14' Pogba and Martial have shots blocked in quick succession. Young then tries to play in Martial with a reverse pass but it hits a Spurs player and goes behind for a corner, which is cleared after a bit of pinball in the box.
D. Alli
Yellow Card
Tottenham Hotspur
12' Alli goes in pretty late on McTominay and is shown a yellow card. The midfielder was frustrated with the pass and clearly took his frustration out on his opposite number.
11' SAVE! Parrott plays in Alli and the English midfielder has time to set himself for the shot. De Gea gets something to it down low, though, and Tottenham's best chance of the match so far goes begging. That was good goalkeeping from De Gea.
9' United win a corner and it is swung into a dangerous area. McTominay chucks himself at the ball but he cannot make contact with it around 10 yards from goal and Spurs are able to clear their lines.
7' Alli loses his footing and takes out Wan-Bissaka. It has been a high-intensity start to the match, with United the side currently on top as they attempt to make the most of some space in the wide areas.
5' OFF THE POST! So close to an early opener for United! Martial collects the ball from James inside the box and tries to go across Gazzaniga. The Spurs keeper cannot get anything to the shot but it hits the inside of the post and runs to safety.
4' Smalling calmly heads the ball back to De Gea under pressure inside his own box from Kane. United get the ball forward and Pereira has a fair bit of space to operate in, but he cannot slide the ball through for Martial after the Frenchman made a positive run in behind.
3' Man United's high pressing has been a familiar sight so far in pre-season. Spurs are being given little time on the ball, but they do well to break through the lines and Ndombele is nearly in, only to lose his footing just inside the box.
1' KICK-OFF! It may only be a friendly, but there tends to be plenty of drama when these two sides meet. Tottenham get us up and running in China!
The two teams are now out on the field at the Hongkou Stadium and we are moments away from kick-off.
In the last eight fixtures between the two teams in all competitions, both have recorded four wins. United were 1-0 winners in the most recent encounter in January.
United are at a slightly more advanced stage of their pre-season programme given that this is their fourth friendly. Solskjaer has made six changes from the win against Inter, with new signings Wan-Bissaka and James among those to keep their places in the side. Lindelof is among the subs despite limping off the field last time out, though there is still no room in the squad for Romelu Lukaku, who has been strongly linked with a move away. Phil Jones, Lee Grant and Matteo Darmian are also absent.
Spurs captain Hugo Lloris has returned to London because of illness, so Gazzaniga continues to operate in goal. In fact, the back four remains unchanged from the late win against Juventus four days ago as talented youngster Tanganga once again partners the far more experienced Vertonghen in the heart of defence. There is a first start for Ndombele alongside Sissoko and Winks in what appears to be a 4-3-1-2 formation, spearheaded by Kane and academy product Parrott.
Man United subs: Juan Mata, Sergio Romero, Angel Gomes, Axel Tuanzebe, Fred, Eric Bailly, Marcus Rashford, Joel Pereira, Tahith Chong, Victor Lindelof, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, James Garner, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw.
MAN UNITED (4-2-3-1): David de Gea; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Ashley Young (c); Scott McTominay, Andreas Pereira; Daniel James, Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial; Mason Greenwood.
Tottenham subs: George Marsh, Erik Lamela, Jonathan De Bie, Jamie Bowden, Harvey White, Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld, Oliver Skipp, Alfie Whiteman, Son Heung-Min, Juan Foyth, Brooklyn Lyons-Foster, Jack Roles, Lucas Moura.
TOTTENHAM (4-3-1-2): Paulo Gazzaniga; Kyle Walker-Peters, Japhet Tanganga, Jan Vertonghen, Anthony Georgiou; Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele; Dele Alli; Troy Parrott, Harry Kane (c).
Tottenham have played just one friendly, meanwhile - a 3-2 victory over Juventus in Singapore on Sunday. Harry Kane scored a superb late goal in that match to get Mauricio Pochettino's charges off to a winning start in the International Champions Cup, leaving them level on three points with opponents United heading into this high-profile friendly.
Man United have enjoyed a good pre-season campaign to date on the results front with three wins from three. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side saw off Perth Glory 2-0 and Leeds United 4-0 in Australia, before kicking off the Asian leg of their tour with a 1-0 victory over Inter on Saturday through a Mason Greenwood strike.
Hello and welcome to our coverage of the International Champions Cup clash between Tottenham and Manchester United at the Hongkou Stadium in Shanghai.
