That's all from us in this match, we'll see you in the next one. For now though, it's goodbye from us.
With both sides now having a sole victory to their names this season, Southampton and Leeds will both look ahead to their next fixtures. Both sides are at home, against Burnley and Wolves respectively, and whilst Southampton can take great courage from this performance, Leeds will need to improve exponentially if they're to get anything out of their upcoming fixtures.
Broja was truly a stand-out for the Saints today, scoring the winning goal and being a handful for Leeds throughout the match. Two shots on target from a total of five, as well as link-up play in all of Southampton's best chances, meant that the Chelsea loanee has firmly cemented himself in Ralph Hassenhuttl's starting lineup.
Southampton are on the board in the Premier League this season and what a way to pick up their first win of the campaign! They dominated Leeds from start to finish, as the Peacocks had no answer to the relentless pressing of the home side. Even without their captain in James Ward-Prowse, loanee Broja stepped up to notch the decisive goal in this match, a goal which not only propels Southampton away from the Premier League relegation zone, but also puts Leeds, who were frankly woeful, back into trouble and looking over their shoulders.
N. Tella
M. Elyounoussi
90' + 5' Elyounoussi, another who has impressed for Southampton, is withdrawn, and his place is taken by Nathan Tella.
90' + 4' Gelhardt drops deep into his own half to help Leeds retain possession. He looks to cross diagonally towards Summerville but Salisu is once again on the scene to intercept for Southampton.
90' + 2' Leeds youngsters Gelhardt and Summerville have looked lively since their introductions, however time after time, any attempt to make inroads forward has been shut down by Southampton's defenders.
90' A somehwat bizarre five minutes of added time are to be played, and it's all or nothing now for both sides as Leeds look to salvage something, and the Saints aim to hold on to their lead.
88' Southampton are only seconds away from their first Premier League victory of the season, and yet their play has been more akin to that of a side more accustomed to winning than most! It's been such an impressive display from Ralph Hassenhuttl's team, who will, barring a miraculous fightback, leapfrog Leeds in the table in the next few minutes.
86' We're only four minutes out from the 90, and Leeds are still yet to register a shot on target. That kind of statistic is near-unthinkable for this team, and this performance has been one to forget for Marcelo Bielsa and his team.
85' Armstrong looks to cut Leeds open again, but his ball for Elyounoussi isn't the best and Leeds are able to clear.
A. McCarthy
Yellow Card
83' Southampton goalkeeper McCarthy is booked for timewasting, as his side look to hold on to their slender lead.
T. Walcott
A. Broja
81' Goalscorer Broja, who has arguably been Southampton's best player today and may have scored the decisive goal, is replaced by Theo Walcott having been clapped off rapturously by the home supporters.
C. Summerville
T. Roberts
81' Roberts, who has been a frustrated figure today for Leeds, comes off for Crysencio Summerville.
79' Leeds look to create an equalising chance going into the last ten minutes, however Forshaw cannot find running forwards as all their paths are cut out by Southampton defenders. They've been impressive from front to back.
78' Livramento looks to latch onto a through ball from Armstrong, but James tracks his run and gets back for Leeds, at the expense of another Southampton corner.
J. Gelhardt
M. Klich
77' Young striker Joe Gelhardt comes on for his Premier League debut for Leeds, in place of Klich.
J. Bednarek
Yellow Card
75' James attempts to break forward on the outside of Bednarek. The Southampton defender knows he is beaten for pace, and shoves the Leeds winger out of play and almost into the stands! Unsurprisingly, he's carded for his troubles.
73' Broja does well to cut inside Struijk and again looks to test Meslier. His shot is powerful, but he leans into it and fires the ball well over the bar.
72' Redmond takes the free-kick, which is deflected off the wall and over for yet another corner for Southampton.
Diego Llorente
Yellow Card
70' Elyounoussi looks to set himself up for a shot, before Llorente brings him down on the edge of the box and is given a yellow card for the challenge.
70' Another attacking play from Southampton sees a great Redmond cross into the box find Armstrong. The cross is dealt with by Leeds however, but not convincingly and the Saints can attack again.
68' CHANCE!!!! A rare lapse in concentration from Salisu allows James to sneak behind him from a Dallas ball. He has to snatch at the finish as he's under pressure from McCarthy and the limp shot dribbles wide of the target.
66' Salisu again wins possession and feeds Perraud. He drives into the box and his ball across goal is deflected behind for yet another Southampton corner.
A. Forshaw
64' An interesting change for Leeds, as lone frontman Rodrigo is withdrawn in favour of defensive midfielder Adam Forshaw. Forshaw comes on to make his first Leeds appearance since September 2019.
62' Southampton break once more and this time it's Elyounoussi looking to test Meslier. He cuts inside and curls a shot towards goal, but it's just wide and flies to the left of the Leeds net.
61' Harrison flies down the left wing and from the byline, clips a teasing cross into the box towards James. McCarthy comes for the ball, but not convincingly and has to rely on Perraud to clear the ball away.
S. Armstrong
M. Djenepo
59' Stuart Armstrong is finally introduced for Southampton, in place of the ever-impressive Djenepo.
P. Struijk
Yellow Card
58' Diallo looks to break away for Southampton and is clipped by Struijk trying to halt his momentum. The Leeds man is given a booking in response.
57' Leeds have another chance to create an attacking opportunity, but Rodrigo is once again dispossessed and the move breaks down.
55' Broja recieves lengthy treatment following his goal as Llorente smashed into him after the shot, but is able to carry on despite Stuart Armstrong being stripped and ready to go.
N. Redmond
53' Redmond did so, so well there. He could've gone for the shot, but he instead fed Broja, who finished well and was immediately clattered by Llorente.
A. Broja
53' GOOOOOAAAALLLLLL!!! Finally Southampton break the deadlock!!! An attacking Leeds move breaks down and Southampton fly towards the other end at pace. Redmond is the leader of the breakaway and selflessy sets up Broja who fires home to make it 1-0 to the Saints!!!
51' BLOCK!!! Finally Leeds look like a side capable of attacking as Harrison sidesteps Romeu and looks to shoot. His goalbound shot is blocked by Salisu for a first Leeds corner in this match!
50' Roberts and Klich drive forward for Leeds and the latter feeds Rodrigo. The Spain striker looks to cut inside, but is once again thwarted by the continually impressive Salisu.
49' Roberts is this time on the receiving end of a foul as he is brought down, and Leeds will have their first attacking free-kick of the half.
T. Roberts
Yellow Card
47' Leeds' midfield already looks one step behind Southampton's in the second half, and a frustrated Roberts pulls down Diallo to receive the game's first booking.
47' Elyounoussi drives forward straight away and feeds Djenepo, but his shot is very weak and Meslier is easily able to gather.
46' Southampton are ready, and the second period is underway!
Both teams are back out for the second half, and the home crowd will be hoping that this game can be put to bed by Southampton!
That first half will have been grim viewing for Marcelo Bielsa. His side have had only one shot, and on the negative side, they've conceded eight fouls and been caught offside twice. Lots to do if Leeds are to get anything out of the second half.
For all their dominance, Southampton will be utterly disappointed to be entering the half-time break with nothing to show for their efforts. It's been complete one-way traffic thus far, and despite being penned into their own half, and box, for the vast majoirty of the past 45 minutes, Leeds will know that there's still all to play for going into the second period. With both sides playing at such a high intensity, and with such speed, it may only take one goal to settle this game.
45' + 1' An additional minute of added time will be played, and Leeds will be hoping the whistle comes as soon as possible.
45' Leeds finally have a shot via the right boot of Roberts, whose effort on the turn is powerful, but not accurate enough to trouble McCarthy in the Southampton goal.
44' Perraud flies forward at breakneck speed for Southampton, and crosses for Elyounoussi. The Norway winger arrives at pace, but his header is mistimed and flies high over the bar.
43' Dallas, Roberts and Harrison link-up down the left for Leeds, but great pressure from Livramento forces Harrison, and the ball, out of play.
41' Cooper is down and receiving treatment after being caught by Elyounoussi in an aerial duel. Another injury for a key Leeds player would be catastrophic for Marcelo Bielsa, who's bench features only one senior player in Adam Forshaw - who hasn't played senior football since 2019.
39' Leeds break forward in a rare attacking opportunity, and after a good passing move around the Southampton box, McCarthy easily catches a poor cross from James.
37' Cooper, Llorente and Struijk and being given a torrid time by the Southampton forward line, both in open play and from corners, which Southampton have had five of. Leeds are yet to create anything resembling a real opportunity, and have won zero corners thus far.
35' Struijk and Djenepo battle for the ball on the edge of the box, and the Southampton winger does very, very well to cross towards Broja. It's put behind by Dallas for Leeds, who are being put to the sword by the Saints in this first half.
33' CHANCE!!! Struijk comically mis-controls the ball to let Broja in, and the Albanian's low drive forces Meslier into another near post save!! It's surely only a matter of time before Southampton break the deadlock here.
32' Roberts looks to link-up with his forward line as Leeds venture into the Southampton half, but he's brought down by Romeu for a Leeds free-kick.
30' It's been one-way traffic thus far but Southampton's potency has let them down. They've had one shot on target, out of eight in total, and that's the only time Meslier has had to make a decent save.
28' Livramento is having the game of his life down the right-hand-side for Southampton, and once again pushes forward dangerously before Leeds are able to clear again. The Saints are on top of Leeds in every department, except the most important one - the scoreline.
26' Redmond drives Southampton forward again, and his link-up play with Broja sees the latter lay off the ball for Romeu to shoot. The Spaniard's effort is deflected however, and Leeds clear the danger.
25' Salisu links up with Perraud who is well up the field, and the Southampton left-back does well to control the ball, but can't prevent it going out for a goal-kick.
23' This corner is not as potent for the Saints, and Djenepo fires the deflected ball well over and into the home crowd at St. Mary's.
22' Livramento does well once again to find Broja, but Cooper intercepts at the last moment for yet another Southampton corner.
21' CLOSE!!! How did Southampton not score? Broja flicks the corner on, into the path of Elyounoussi, who misses the ball completely as it goes behind once again! Ralph Hassenhuttl will be tearing his hair out if his side continue to squander chances at this rate!
19' WELL SAVED!!! Redmond cuts inside and shoots towards the near post, and Meslier does well to get down and save! A first real chance for Southampton!
18' Broja meets the in-swinging corner, and his header is good but just not powerful enough, as it swings wide of Meslier in the Leeds goal.
17' Djenepo comes inside looking to create an opportunity and feeds Perraud. His cross is deflected and goes out for Southampton's first corner of the match.
15' Shackleton looks to break up the field for Leeds, but is brought down by Djenepo as both sides continue to frustrate each other in midfield.
14' Redmond wastes a chance to cross with three Southampton attackers in the box, instead choosing to shoot and dragging a weak effort well wide of Meslier's goal.
13' It's very much been a battle of the press so far, with both sides pressing each other high whenever in possession, and as a result neither side has been able to create any real opportunities.
11' Shackleton and Harrison link-up to drive Leeds forward, and as Rodrigo looks to cut the ball back to Shackleton, Salisu is again there to deal with the danger for Southampton.
9' Rodrigo looks to start some attacking impetus for Leeds, but he is overpowered and outmuscled by Salisu, and loses possession.
8' Redmond looks to whip in a dangerous ball from a free-kick for Southampton, but Llorente is able to head his low cross clear of any danger.
6' Romeu looks to get forward for Southampton, but is clipped from behind by Struijk and wins a free-kick.
5' Llorente clips a beautiful ball across the pitch towards the Southampton box, hoping to find James. the marauding Welsh winger tears forward looking to connect, but the ball is safely collected by McCarthy in the Southampton goal.
4' In their seven previous games this season, Leeds have only managed to muster seven goals, and with only two of those goalscorers, Klich and Llorente, playing today, it’s even harder to see where the goalmouth action will come from for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
2' Defensive midfielder Struijk drops very, very deep to keep possession for Leeds. He whips a diagonal ball to Dallas, who is immediately floored by Livramento and wins a free kick for his side.
1' The knee is taken by both sets of players, before Leeds' Rodrigo gets the match underway!
The teams have exited the tunnel, and we'll be underway in just a matter of moments!
Whilst Southampton are missing their own key cog in midfield, Leeds will play this match without, arguably, their first three names on the team sheet. Patrick Bamford and Kalvin Phillips have not recovered from their respective lower-leg injuries quick enough, whilst Raphinha, who shone for Brazil in his maiden three international appearances, has not made it back in time to be deemed ready for this game by Marcelo Bielsa.
The most notable absentee for Southampton is undoubtedly their midfield talisman and captain, James Ward-Prowse. The England midfielder, who scored his second international goal in the recent World Cup Qualifiers, begins a three-match ban after his sending-off during his side's 3-1 defeat to Chelsea, before the international break.
LEEDS UNITED SUBS: Kristoffer Klaesson, Adam Forshaw, Joe Gelhardt, Leo Hjelde, Charlie Cresswell, Cody Drameh, Crysencio Summerville, Stuart McKinstry, Sam Greenwood.
LEEDS UNITED (4-1-4-1): Illan Meslier; Jamie Shackleton, Diego Llorente, Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas; Pascal Struijk; Daniel James, Mateusz Klich, Tyler Roberts, Jack Harrison; Rodrigo.
SOUTHAMPTON SUBS: Fraser Forster, Kyle Walker-Peters, Lyanco, Shane Long, Adam Armstrong, Stuart Armstrong, Nathan Tella, Theo Walcott, Yan Valery.
SOUTHAMPTON (4-4-2): Alex McCarthy; Tino Livramento, Jan Bednarek, Mohammed Salisu, Romain Perraud; Moussa Djenepo, Ibrahima Diallo, Oriol Romeu, Mohamed Elyounoussi; Armando Broja, Nathan Redmond.
That Leeds win, however, was only their maiden victory so far this campaign, and so this bottom-end of the table clash could prove to be a vital one, as both teams attempt to pull away from the drop zone in the Premier League.
Home side Southampton are still chasing that elusive first win of the season, and face a Leeds United team who were themselves the victors in their last game, before the recent international break.
Hello, and welcome to live coverage of this Premier League fixture between Southampton and Leeds United.
