That win was far more nervy than Marseille would have liked, but they have just about managed to hold on to pick up three points that send them into the knockout stage of the competition. Until the 75th minute they were in full control, but a late slip-up resulted in a scare for the visitors. Liberec pushed hard but didn't quite have enough in the tank to find the two extra goals needed before sloppy defending once again cost them late on, with Ocampos confirming the Ligue 1 side's place in the last 32 with the last kick of the game.
FULL-TIME: SLOVAN LIBEREC 2-4 MARSEILLE
B. Mendy
Assist
Olympique Marseille
That was a nothing ball from Mendy, but once again Liberec were undone by poor defending.
L. Ocampos
Goal
Olympique Marseille
GOAL! Marseille make it 4-2 with the final kick of the game! A thumping pass forward from Mendy causes problems for Hovorka, who fails to deal with the ball and allows Ocampos to beat him with ease, and the Argentine flies into the penalty area before chipping a wonderful shot over Koubek and into the back of the net.
What a chance for Ocampos to wrap up the win! The Argentine breaks into the penalty area and twists and turns before trying to get a shot away, but he holds onto the ball for far too long and chooses not to tee up Silva before scuffing a late shot off a blue shirt and out for a corner. His manager doesn't look at all happy with that...
Pavelka clumsily fouls Silva just outside of the Liberec penalty area, resulting in a free kick for Marseille in a dangerous position 25 yards away from goal. The aforementioned Brazilian steps up and unleashes a well-struck curling shot, but it's slightly too high and ends up clearing the top of the crossbar by a foot.
The fourth official has indicated that there will be four minutes of added time.
M. Kerbr
J. Sýkora
Slovan Liberec
Liberec have made their final change, with Kerbr coming on to replace Sykora.
Silva breaks down the right flank before curling a dangerous cross towards the near post, where it finds Ocampos, but the Argentine is unable to make decent contact with the ball and, as a result, Koubek can clear the danger relatively comfortably.
A. Romao
Yellow Card
Olympique Marseille
Romao plays the ball over to the left wing before turning and cynically pushing Sural to the ground, seemingly for no reason whatsoever, leaving the referee with no choice but to show him a yellow card.
Marseille are able to get back on the ball once again, and, unsurprisingly, they are aiming to hold onto it for as long as possible as they look to keep a determined Liberec side as far away from it as possible.
L. Bartošák
Yellow Card
Slovan Liberec
Bartosak becomes the latest player to enter the referee's book for dissent, as he's penalised for arguing with the linesman on the opposite flank to where Efremov's incident took place.
Ball after ball is being flung into the Marseille penalty area, but the visitors are just about managing to hold on to their slender lead. The hosts are throwing everything they've got at the Ligue 1 side but so far they're failing to find that all-important third goal.
D. Efremov
Yellow Card
Slovan Liberec
After plenty of shouting in the face of the linesman, Efremov receives a yellow card for dissent.
Once again, Efremov darts down the right flank before cutting inside and seemingly winnning his side a corner. The ball definitely touches Ramao's knee before rolling out of play but the referee instead awards a goal kick to Marseille, much to the frustration of the Russian.
This game has been completely turned on its head. Liberec are now desperately pushing forward and look full of confidence when on the ball, whilst, in stark contrast to earlier, Marseille are on the back foot and looking incredibly nervous. Can the hosts fight their way back and pull off a wonderful comeback?
D. Efremov
Assist
Slovan Liberec
That was a great cross by Efremov. The Russian has looked bright all evening and fully deserves an assist as a result.
J. Šural
Goal
Slovan Liberec
GOAL! Just like that, Liberec have scored again! They immediately push forward on a quick attacking move, with Efremov looking bright down the right flank. He then whips an absolutely wonderful cross towards the back post that finds Sural, and the substitute rises high and meets the ball before sending it looping over the head of Mandanda and into the back of the net. What an amazing turnaround!
M. Bakoš
Penalty Goal
Slovan Liberec
GOAL! Bakos steps and unleashes a thumping strike that easily beats Mandanda before flying into the back of the net. Game on?
N. N'Koulou
Yellow Card
Olympique Marseille
PENALTY! Liberec push forward on a wonderful attacking move, working the ball around nicely on the edge of the penalty area. Sykora then penetrates the box before being scythed down by a poor challenge from N'Koulou, leaving the referee with no choice but to point to the spot.
L. Ocampos
M. Batshuayi
Olympique Marseille
Substitution Michy Batshuayi Tunga Lucas Ariel Ocampos
Once again, Marseille play beautiful football deep inside the Liberec half of the pitch before Manquillo cuts a low cross into the heart of the penalty area, but it fails to find Batshuayi and is thumped away by Svejdik at the near post.
Chance for Mendy! The full-back embarks on a marauding run down the left wing and beats two Liberec players before unleashing an almightly strike from just outside of the penalty area, but Koubek does well to get down and palm the shot away with a strong diving save.
Liberec are moving the ball around nicely and looking bright inside the Marseille half of the pitch, but the visitors are now firmly sitting on the back foot as they look to keep hold of their clean sheet.
J. Šural
H. Shala
Slovan Liberec
And now Liberec have made another alteration, with Shala making way for Sural, who is currently his side's second highest goalscorer.
S. Sparagna
G. N'Koudou
Olympique Marseille
Michel seemingly doesn't want to risk N'Koudou, so he has brought on Sparagna to replace the winger.
Marseille patiently pass the ball around deep inside the Liberec half of the pitch befoe Mendy spins and whips a lovely cross into the heart of the hosts' penalty area, but Batshuayi is nowhere to be found and, much to the annoyance of the aforementioned full-back, his pass doesn't result in a chance on goal.
N'Koudou seems to be really struggling after losing his footing whilst charging down the left flank. The pitch doesn't look the greatest and the Frenchman is the latest of many to look as if they're struggling to deal with the conditions.
M. Rabusic
Z. Folprecht
Slovan Liberec
Liberec have made their first alteration, with Folprecht, who was arguably at fault for both of Marseille's opening two goals, coming off to be replaced by Rabusic.
Marseille earn themselves a corner on the right flank after good play by Barrada. It's sent out to Manquillo, who immediately unleashes a fierce cross-cum-shot from 35 yards out, but the Spaniard's effort fails to beat the sea of blue shirts camped inside the penalty area.
Even though they already have three goals under their belts, Marseille are still pushing hard for more. They are continuing to find plenty of joy against the Liberec defence, all of whom have had disappointing evenings tonight.
Lucas Silva
R. Cabella
Olympique Marseille
Marseille have decided to make their first substitution of the game, with Cabella making way for Silva.
Fantastic chance for Shala! The Albanian flies into the Marseille penalty area to latch onto a great pass forward and immediately unleashes a low shot, but it's scuffed slightly and ends up bouncing agonisingly wide of the far post as a result.
N'Koudou almost makes it 4-0! The winger cuts into the left-hand side of the Liberec penalty area and heads towards the byline before sending a low cross towards the near post. It's saved well by Koubek but the goalkeeper can only push it into the knee of Hovorka, sending the ball back into the hands of the shot-stopper after it looked as if it might result in an own-goal.
Javi Manquillo
Assist
Olympique Marseille
Once again, Liberec are torn apart by a lofted ball forward, as they are guilty of leaving far too much space behind for Barrada to take advantage of.
A. Barrada
Goal
Olympique Marseille
GOAL! It's 3-0 and Marseille have surely confirmed their place in the last 32! Manquillo picks up the ball inside the visitors' half of the pitch and immediately sends a lofted pass over the top of the Liberec defence and into the path of Barrada, who charges into the box before lifting a wonderful volleyed shot over the head of Koubek and into the bottom left-hand corner of the net. That was wonderfully struck by the Moroccan, who has had a hand in every goal this evening.
Liberec push forward on a good attacking move down the right wing through Efremov, who is poorly fouled by Ramao before he's able to get a cross away, resulting in a free kick in a dangerous position. It's flung into the heart of the penalty area, where it bounces around before N'Koulou is just about able to thump the ball away from danger.
And we're underway once again!
The two teams are making their way back out onto the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break.
It's been a relatively comfortable first half for Marseille, who head into the half-time break with a well-deserved two-goal lead and one foot in the knockout stage of the Europa League. They have failed to be tested at the back, whilst at the other end of the pitch they have found plenty of joy, with the hosts time and time again committing far too many defensive mistakes. As a result, they are now just 45 minutes away from a place in the last 32.
HALF-TIME: SLOVAN LIBEREC 0-2 MARSEILLE
Cabella finds himself in space just outside of the Liberec penalty area and decides to unleash a low shot towards the bottom right-hand corner of the goal, but it's poorly hit by the attacking midfielder and ends up missing its intended target by quite some distance.
Bartosak almost pulls one back! A curling cross from the right flank somewhere finds its way to the aforementioned full-back, who is just about able to get a toe on the ball at the far post, but Mandanda gets the deftest of touches on the shot to stop it from finding the back of the net before the linesman's flag is eventually raised for offside.
The fourth official has indicated that there will be two minutes of added time.
A. Barrada
Assist
Olympique Marseille
Once again, Barrada played an important role in the attacking move, as the Liberec defenders gave him far too much space on the wing.
G. N'Koudou
Goal
Olympique Marseille
GOAL! Marseille have doubled their lead! Once again, Liberec are unable to clear the danger from their own half of the pitch, allowing the visitors to push forward on a quick counter-attack. Barrada picks up the ball on the right wing and immediately sends a wonderful lofted pass over the top of the hosts' defence and into the path of N'Koudou, who sprints forward and rounds Koubek before slotting the ball into the back of the net.
Great play by N'Koudou! The Frenchman, who has had a relatively quiet first half, skips past Coufal on the edge of the Liberec penalty area before unleashing a thumping shot towards goal, and Koubek is just about able to get a hand on the ball, which was swerving menacingly in the air, to send it looping out for a corner.
Chance for Barrada! Batshuayi twists and turns on the left wing before curling a lovely cross towards the far post. It misses Cabella but finds the aforementioned Moroccan, who immediately unleashes a half-volley that ends up flying just a yard or so over the top of the crossbar.
Cabella embarks on a great run down the right flank and beats his marker with ease before finding himself in acres of space near the corner flag. He then cuts inside before trying to find Batshuayi with a looping cross, but it's sent too near to Koubek and, as a result, the goalkeeper is easily able to cut out the danger.
D. Pavelka
Yellow Card
Slovan Liberec
Pavelka flies into Cabella and brings the attacking midfielder crashing to the ground with a clumsy, high-footed challenge, leaving the referee with no choice but to book him.
It's all become a bit sloppy over the past few minutes. Both sides are battling hard for the ball in the middle of the pitch but are finding it difficult to string together a decent series of passes. As a result, neither team have had enjoyed much possession in front of goal.
The resulting corner is well dealt with by Marseille, who then attempt to break away on a quick counter-attack only to have their advance stopped by strong defending from the hosts.
Bartosak goes close! The full-back steps up and unleashes a great low shot that looks set for the bottom left-hand corner of the net, but Barrada is just about able to get a stud on the strike to send it bobbling just past the near post.
M. Batshuayi
Yellow Card
Olympique Marseille
Batshuayi becomes the latest player to receive a yellow card for his cynical shoulder-barge on Bartosak.
R. Cabella
Yellow Card
Olympique Marseille
Cabella refuses to move away from the ball after giving away a free kick and is shown a yellow card that will rule him out of Marseille's next Europa League game.
Liberec win themselves a free kick on the right flank, which is quickly flung over to the edge of the penalty area. Marseille fail to deal with the danger fully, allowing Pavelka to unleash a thumping low strike that bounces off a white shirt before Batshuayi concedes another foul in an extremely dangerous position just outside of the box.
M. Bakoš
Yellow Card
Slovan Liberec
Bakos has also been booked after having a little bit too much to say to the referee, who didn't look at all amused.
S. Mandanda
Yellow Card
Olympique Marseille
Mandanda receives a yellow card for his part in the fracas inside the penalty area. The goalkeeper didn't look at all happy with the pressure being put on him by the Liberec players.
After plenty of pushing, shoving and arguing inside the Marseille penalty area, the resulting set-piece is finally taken, but as soon as it is the referee blows his whistle and awards a free kick to the visitors after spotting a foul on Mandanda.
Coufal does well to break down the right wing before earning his side a free kick near the corner flag. It's flung towards the near post and almost finds the head of a blue shirt, but Ramao is just about able to nod it over the top of the crossbar and out for a corner.
Another chance for Batshuayi! Mendy loses the ball in a dangerous position on the left wing, allowing Efremov to pick up the ball on the halfway line. The Marseille full-back does well to win possession back, however, and charges forward on a quick run before teeing up the aforementioned Belgian striker. The youngster immediately unleashes a low shot after receiving the ball, but it's slightly underhit and is easily stopped by Koubek.
Ramao is clumsily fouled by Shala on the left flank, resulting in a free kick for Marseille in a dangerous position. It's taken short before a cross is finally flung into the heart of the penalty area, but it flies just over the head of Rolando before finding the hands of Koubek.
Cabella and Mendy link up well on the left wing before the latter tries to skip into the left-hand side of the Liberec penalty area, but Hovorka is just about able to dispossess the Frenchman with a well-timed sliding tackle.
Bartosak gets forward well down the left flank before attempting to send a curling cross towards the back post, but it's completely overhit by the full-back and ends up flying out of play for a goal kick.
M. Batshuayi
Goal
Olympique Marseille
GOAL! It's 1-0 to Marseille! A terrible pass from Folprecht can only find Barrada, who immediately breaks forward quickly before teeing up Batshuayi. The Belgian striker then heads towards the edge of the penalty area and skips past his marker before unleashing a low shot that flies past the outstretched limbs of Koubek and into the back of the net.
A. Barrada
Assist
Olympique Marseille
Barrada did well to pick out Batshuayi with his quick pass forward, but that goal came from a really poor pass by Folprecht, who looked nervy in possession.
What an opportunity for Liberec! The hosts take advantage of poor defending by Marseille, with Efremov using his impressive pace to break into the right-hand side of the box. He then cuts the ball back to Shala, who is in a great position in front of goal, but the Albanian is unable to get the ball out of his feet before he's dispossessed by Manquillo.
Cabella is dispossessed deep down the left wing, allowing Liberec to break away on a quick counter-attack. Bakos flies down the flank and tries to latch onto a loose ball forward but Rolando does wonderfully well to dart back and dispossess the striker before he can penetrate the Marseille penalty area.
Batshuayi goes close again! The resulting set-piece is half dealt with by Liberec but Marseille come back at the hosts once again, with Barrada playing an important role in the quick attacking move. He then tees up the aforementioned Belgian with a well-placed through-ball, but the striker can only send his low strike into the side-netting.
Chance for Batshuayi! Mendy cuts inside from the left flank on a great run before teeing up Barrada, who quickly spins and sets up the young striker. He immediately unleashes a low strike from the edge of the penalty area but it takes a deflection off a blue shirt that sends the ball flying out of play for a corner.
Marseille patiently work the ball around before Cabella picks it up in plenty of space 25 yards away from the Liberec goal. He then powers towards the edge of the box before looking to shoot but Pavelka is there to dispossess the Frenchman with a wonderful sliding tackle.
A slow and patient start to the game characterised by plenty of long balls forward finally results in Liberec winning a throw-in neat the corner flag on the right wing after good play by Coufal. The full-back plays it short before trying to swing a cross into the penalty area, but Mendy is there to deal with the danger.
And we're off!
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
Meanwhile, Marseille boss Michel has made just two alterations to the side that featured in the 2-2 draw with Montpellier on Sunday, with Brice Dja Djedje and Karim Rekik making way for Benjamin Mendy and Rolando.
Jindrich Trpisovsky has decided to make six changes to the Liberec side that started last weekend’s domestic win at home to Slavia Prague, with Ondrej Svejdik, Lukas Bartosak, Dmitri Efremov, Zdenek Folprecht, Jan Sykora and Marek Bakos coming into the starting line-up to replace Jan Mudra, Luka Pokorny, Ondrej Machuca, Milan Kerbr, Michael Rabusic and Dzon Delarge, respectively.
Marseille substitutes: Rekik, Ocampos, Silva, Sparagna, Pele, Sarr, Anguissa.
Marseille XI (4-2-3-1): Mandanda; Manquillo, N’Koulou, Rolando, Mendy; Isla, Romao; Barrada, Cabella, N’Koudou; Batshuayi.
Slovan Liberec substitutes: Bong, Rabusic, Hladky, Kerbr, Mudra, Sural, Bartl.
Slovan Liberec XI (4-1-4-1): Koubek; Coufal, Hovorka, Svejdik, Bartosak; Pavelka; Efremov, Folprecht, Shala, Sykora; Bakos.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this evening…
After suffering back-to-back defeats against Braga and Liberec, Marseille now have two wins from their last two games and know that just one point will be enough to see them progress to the knockout stage of the tournament. Two weeks ago they scored late on to beat Groningen 2-1 at home, but they will now be hoping the Dutch side are able to pick up a win of their own, as a victory for the group’s bottom team against its current Portuguese leaders coupled with a win for today’s visitors to the Czech Republic will see Les Phoceens top the group and secure a favourable draw in the last 32.
It’s been an understandably tough group stage campaign for Liberec, although they have held their own against Sporting Braga and Marseille, the group’s top two teams, and as a result head into their final clash with their chances of reaching the knockout stage still alive and kicking. The Czech side lost their last game against the aforementioned Portuguese team but narrowly beat their opponents today the last time they met, meaning that they will be confident about their chances of reaching the last 32. Nothing less than a win will do, however, so it’s do or die time for Jindrich Trpisovsky’s men.
Good evening and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s Europa League group stage game between Slovan Liberec and Marseille at Stadion u Nisy.
