Commentary

That's all from me. I hope you enjoyed our live commentary. Until next time, stay safe!
The result takes Gladbach top of Group B with Madrid and Inter in action later. They face Leverkusen in the league next and will be full of confidence after tonight's result. For the hosts, they must recover quickly after what was an utterly miserable performance. They are next in action against league-leaders Dynamo Kiev, before facing Gladbach again in their next Champions League fixture.
It's all over and Gladbach celebrate a thumping 6-0 victory over Shakhtar. The German side blew their opponents away in the opening 45 minutes, scoring four goals which included two from Plea. And when play resumed in the second half, it was a matter of how many. Stindl got the fifth before Plea capped off a perfect performance by slotting home from close range for his hat-trick in the 78th minute.
90' + 3' FULL-TIME: SHAKHTAR DONETSK 0-6 BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH
90' + 3' Still nothing going forward for Shakhtar who have been allowed plenty of the ball in these last 10 minutes.
90' + 2' The scoreline might look strange, but it's thoroughly deserved for Gladbach. In all honestly, it could've been more than six.
90' + 1' There will be three minutes of added time.
90' Dodo lines up to take it but it doesn't get past the first man. Kramer clears it out of play for a throw-in.
M. Lang
Yellow Card
89' Lang is carded for the challenge.
89' Shakhtar win a free-kick and a chance to perhaps grab a consolation goal.
88' It's been a miserable performance from Shakhtar. It's just as well no fans were allowed in for this one.
86' Five minutes to go in Ukraine. Shakhtar have a rare spell of possession but the life has understandably been drained from them. Both sides are just going through the motions until the referee puts the hosts out their misery.
84' CLOSE! It's ridiculously easy for Gladbach. Neuhaus drives forward before trying to tee up Traore. He's offside so pulls out before Neuhaus almost latches on to the loose ball to prod home.
T. Jantschke
N. Elvedi
82' It's a triple-change for the away side as Jantschke comes on for Elvedi.
I. Traoré
A. Plea
82' Hat-trick hero Plea is taken off for Traore.
M. Lang
S. Lainer
82' Lang is on for Lainer.
80' These last 10 minutes can't go quick enough for the home side. It's been a night to forget.
M. Thuram
Assist
78' Thuram gets the assist for a superb throughball.
A. Plea
Goal
78' GOOOAAAALLLL! The ball is in the net for Gladbach's sixth and Plea's hat-trick. Lazaro wins the ball back and feeds Thuram. The Frenchman weighs up his options before finding Plea in acres of space and he makes no mistake, firing into the net for a Champions League hat-trick. The linesman's flag is up for offside initially before VAR overturns the decision to make it 6-0!
76' 15 minutes to go in Ukraine. The game is over for Shakhtar but can they improve and try take something to go forward into the next game with?
V. Lazaro
J. Hofmann
75' Rose makes another change. Hofmann's game is over as he is replaced by Lazaro.
74' Tete's delivery is too close to Sommer who catches with ease.
73' Shakhtar have a corner. Dodo gets into the box but Bensebaini makes a good clearing tackle.
72' Castro is cutting a solemn figure on the touchline.
70' Kramer almost gets his goal. Hoffman stands a ball up to the back post and Kramer takes it down before shooting from a tight angle. It's blocked for another corner.
H. Wolf
L. Stindl
69' First sub for Gladbach. Stindl is off for Wolf.
T. Stepanenko
Maycon
69' Another change for the hosts. Stepanenko is on for Maycon.
67' CHANCE! Thuram finds Plea down the left-hand side. He comes inside before switching the play to the right and the ball in finds Neuhaus in so much space at the back post. He can't connect with the volley how he'd like to and Trubin gathers easily.
A. Plea
Assist
65' Plea's one-touch pass is on a plate for Stindl who makes no mistake.
L. Stindl
Goal
65' GOOOAALLL GLADBACH! Trubin's goal-kick is easily intercepted by Hoffman. The midfielder feeds it into Plea whose one-touch assist is superbly dispatched by Stindl who deserves a goal for his efforts. 5-0!
64' Gladbach line up a free-kick on the edge of the area. Plea stands over it.
M. Solomon
Yellow Card
63' Solomon leaves a sore one on Hoffman and is quite rightly booked.
62' The away side are simply going through the motions here. If they wanted to, they could easily add to their tally of goals.
60' It's hard to believe Shakhtar topped the group coming into this game. They've been miles off the pace tonight.
58' CLOSE! Hoffman's ball in is on a plate but Dodo's last-ditch clearance gets it out for a corner. Thuram rises well to meet the corner but it's well saved by Trubin before Elvedi can't find the target on the follow up.
57' Hoffman wins back possession high up the pitch before the German side play the ball around with ease. Stindl makes a run in behind and is found well but he has just strayed offside.
56' Maycon tries to find Korniienko with a long ball over the top but it's too close to Sommer in the Gladbach goal.
54' The intensity has certainly dropped. Gladbach aren't pressing with the same intent and appear content to cruise through this game.
52' Shakhtar have a spell of possession with Dodo looking to create something. The ball eventually comes into the box but it's nowhere near Moraes.
50' Hoffman gets a ball into the box but it's too deep for Thuram. Gladbach are still in the ascendency here.
48' The last German side to win away in Ukraine in the UEFA Champions League were Bayern Munich at Dynamo Kiev in December 1994 – the last nine have all failed to win (D6 L3). Looks like that'll be changing tonight.
D. Khocholava
Yellow Card
46' Khocholava gets the first yellow card of the game.
46' Shakhtar get us going again. Can they somehow find a way back into this game?
Júnior Moraes
Taison
46' It's a triple change as Moraes replaces Taison.
Alan Patrick
Marcos Antonio
46' Patrick is on for Antonio.
V. Kovalenko
Marlos
46' Changes for the hosts at half-time. Kovalenko is on for Marlos.
I don't see any way back now for Shakhtar who seemed content to sit back and invite their opponents forward. It'll be a case of damage limitation for Luis Castro's side and I wouldn't be surprised to see changes at the interval.
Gladbach have blown away their opposition in the opening 45 minutes and go in at the break with a deserved 4-0 lead. Plea's strike in the eighth minute opened the scoring before a Bondar own goal made it two before the 20-minute mark. A screamer from Plea then made it three as the German side picked apart their opponents at will before a goal on the stroke of half-time by Bensebaini rubbed salt in the wounds for Shakhtar.
45' HALF-TIME: SHAKHTAR DONETSK 0-4 BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH
R. Bensebaini
Goal
44' GOOOAAAALLL! Hofmann's corner is met by Bensebaini whose header is initially blocked. The defender reacts quickest to the loose ball and prods it past the keeper to make it 4-0 Gladbach!
43' Hoffman kocks it down for Lainer who crosses it in for Stindl. The midfielder gets a shot away but it's deflected out for a corner.
42' Dodo drives down the right and has players to aim at in the middle but it's well defended by Gladbach.
40' Shakhtar have their entire team in their own half while the Gladbach defence saunter forward. It's so easy for the visitors to hold on to possession.
38' Gladbach are pressing so high up the pitch that the home side can barely get out their half.
36' WHAT A CHANCE! It's nearly four. Hoffman finds Stindl in acres of space in the Shakhtar box. He squares it for Plea who is a few yards out but his effort is just wide.
35' Tete and Marlos work some good passes down the right-hand side. Tete whips in a lovely ball but nobody can get on the end of it.
34' CHANCE! Hoffman's delivery lands on the head of Thuram but the Frenchman can't keep his effort down.
33' SAVE! Shakhtar are being picked apart here. Hoffman fires a shot on goal that forces a save from the keeper. It's a corner for Gladbach.
32' Despite being 3-0 down, Shakhtar are exerting very little pressure on the ball when not in possession.
30' The second goal has now been given as a Bondar own goal. It's very harsh for Kramer as it's hard to tell whether his shot would have missed the target or not.
29' SAVE! The hosts almost get one back. Tete is played through one-on-one but Sommer stands tall and saves Tete's effort well with his feet.
L. Stindl
Assist
26' Another assist for Stindl who has been heavily involved in the early stages.
A. Plea
Goal
26' GOAAAALLL! WHAT A STRIKE FROM PLEA!! Gladbach have the ball in the corner before working it back into the middle. Stindl's pass is stepped over and falls to Plea who unleashes a strike from 25 yards straight into the roof of the net. Unstoppable. Gladbach lead 3-0!
25' Korniienko gives it away to Kramer who has bags of space in the middle. It's far too easy for Gladbach to pass it around with their opponents sitting so deep.
23' Slightly better from the home side. Tete and Antonio link up nicely before they win their first corner of the game.
21' The hosts enjoy a spell of possession but they every pass is being pressured by Gladbach.
19' It's no more than the visitors deserve. Shakhtar need to buck up their ideas if they are to regain a foothold in this match.
V. Bondar
Own Goal
17' GOOOOAAALLL! Plea is causing Shakhtar all sorts of problems. He wins back possession before the ball comes back to Kramer who has space to shoot. His effort might be heading just wide but a wicked deflection off Bondar sends it past the helpless Trubin. 2-0!
15' Bensebaini is found in space after a brilliant diagonal ball from Ginter. He can't bring the ball under control and get a delivery into the box.
14' A ball over the top is met by Stindl on the volley. His effort dribbles out for a goal-kick but it's all Gladbach here.
13' The corner is headed clear and falls to Neuhaus. The midfielder has a pop at goal but it's easily saved by Trubin.
12' The high line of Shakhtar is being exploited by Gladbach. Bensebaini wins another corner after being found by Plea.
10' Taison gets a shot away for Shakhtar as they try to level. It's dragged wide but it was better from the hosts.
S. Lainer
Assist
8' A brilliant assist for Lainer, whose delivery was on a plate for his team-mate.
A. Plea
Goal
8' GOAL! What a start for Gladbach. Lainer charges up the right and is found in space. He delivers an excellent ball across the face of goal that Plea meets and strikes into the bottom corner. 1-0!
7' Some nice one-touch play sets Plea free up the right flank. His ball in is cleared before the linesman flags for offside.
6' The corner is well dealt with but the away side are starting to assert themselves.
5' Neuhaus and Kramer are linking up well early doors for Gladbach. Plea wins the first corner of the game for the away side.
3' A very even opening few minutes in Ukraine. Tete won an early free-kick in the middle of the park that was sloppily given away, almost giving Gladbach a chance to pounce. And up the other end, Taison got on the ball before the Gladbach defence crowded him out.
1' Dutch referee Serdar Gozubuyuk blows his whistle and Gladbach get us underway here in Kiev!
The two teams are emerging from the tunnel. It's nearly time for kick-off!
This is the first ever competitive European meeting between these two sides. Who will come out on top?
Gladbach start with the same XI that drew 2-2 with Madrid. Kramer, Stindl and Thuram all start after coming off the bench in a 1-0 victory over RB Leipzig at the weekend.
One change to the Shakhtar team that faced Inter in their last Champions League clash. Dentinho misses out after testing positive for coronavirus with Taison taking his place up front.
BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH SUBS: Michael Lang, Ibrahima Traore, Rocco Reitz, Valentino Lazaro, Laszlo Benes, Oscar Wendt, Breel Embolo, Hannes Wolf, Max Grun, Tony Jantschke, Patrick Herrmann, Tobias Sippel.

Their opponents sit second in the group after two draws to open their Champions League campaign. Marco Rose will be wondering how his side are yet to register a victory after conceding a last-minute goal to Inter and letting slip a two-goal advantage with just three minutes to play against Madrid. He’ll be hoping his team can put it right here and leave with the three points.
Shakhtar top the group after beating Real Madrid in their first outing and following that up with a goalless draw when they welcomed Inter. The Ukrainian outfit are also unbeaten in the league this season – occupying second spot behind Dynamo Kiev – so should be full of confidence.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of the Champions League Group B meeting between Shakhtar Donetsk and Borussia Monchengladbach at the Kiev Olympic Stadium!
