8th Finals
UEFA Europa League

Thank you for following our coverage of tonight’s Champions League match-up between Salzburg and Lokomotiv Moscow. In the meantime, stay safe!
Next up for Salzburg is a trip to Austria Wien on Saturday afternoon as they look to continue their great start to the season whilst Lokomotiv Moscow face FC Rotor Volgograd back in the Russian Premier League.
An exciting encounter comes to an end in Salzburg as the home side play out a 2-2 draw with visitors Lokomotiv Moscow. That’s definitely a case of the visitors being the happier side with that result as Salzburg dominated the majority of the second-half but just couldn’t grab that all important third goal.
90' + 3' HUGE CHANCE! That’s a massive opportunity for Salzburg to win it. Daka breaks the lines and is bearing down on goal but Guilherme charges out and stops the striker in his stride. A fantastic save from close range to preserve the scoreline for the visitors.
90' + 1' There'll be four minutes of added time. Can either side grab a late winner in this clash?
90' A long throw in for Salzburg could set up a late chance for the home side but Okafor pushes Krychowiak and the danger subsides for Lokomotiv Moscow.
89' Szoboszlai delivers a cross to the back post which is met by the head of Ramalho but his effort is blocked and Lokomotiv clear the danger.
88' Wober strides up field and has a strike at goal that is blocked wide for a corner. A chance for Salzburg!
87' The presence and experience of Corluka in defence is really helping Lokomotiv Moscow in the late stages here. The former Manchester City and Tottenham man still loves to make an important tackle when called upon.
85' Salzburg look a bit deflated after that second Lokomotiv Moscow goal. The home side are struggling to carve out any sort of opportunity late on here in Austria.
N. Okafor
Z. Junuzović
84' A sign of intent from the home side as forward Okafor replaces Junuzovic. Salzburg now have three strikers on the pitch.
82' Zhivoglyadov is down after an aerial challenge. The physio's tend to the Russian full-back but he's fine to continue after treatment.
D. Kulikov
Yellow Card
80' Yellow card for Kulikov as he hacks down a Salzburg player on the right wing.
79' This is Lokomotiv Moscow’s fifth away match in Austria in all European competitions, winning two of the previous four (D1 L1), including their most recent trip in September 2011 in the UEFA Europa League vs Sturm Graz. Can they grab a late winner this evening in Salzburg?
77' That goal for the visitors has very much come against the run of play in this second-half. Salzburg really need to lift their collective heads to avoid another sucker punch.
D. Zhivoglyadov
75' A lovely deep cross from Zhivoglyadov put it on a plate for his striker.
V. Lisakovich
75' GOOOOAAAAALLLL!!!! 2-2. THE VISITORS ARE LEVEL!!!! Lisakovich levels this tie for the visitors. Lokomotiv play the ball out wide to the right and Zhivoglyadov whips a ball to the far post. The subsititue is wide open from 10-yards out and heads home despite Stankovic getting his hand to it in the Salzburg goal.
M. Okugawa
M. Camara
73' A first change of the evening for Salzburg as Okugawa replaces Camara. Another great performance from the 20-year-old central midfielder tonight for the home side.
71' There’s a chance for Salzburg as Berisha has a shot at goal. The forward holds off his man and shoots from the edge of the area but his shot is dragged well wide.
V. Lisakovich
A. Miranchuk
69' Lisakovich enters the action at the expense of Miranchuk at the same time as Lokomotiv look to force their way back into this clash.
Zé Luís
69' Ze Luis replaces goalscorer Eder upfront for the away side.
68' Great play from Mwepu who drives around the outside of this opposing full-back and forces Corluka to give away a corner. The resulting set piece comes to nothing for the home side however.
66' The visitors are working very hard to get back into this Champions League tie now. The double substitution should give them a bit more pace and presence upfront as they chase an equaliser.
64' Camara is fine to continue after treatment and the play restarts.
F. Kamano
R. Zhemaletdinov
63' Zhemaletdinov is replaced at the same time by former Bordeaux winger Kamano.
D. Rybchinskiy
F. Smolov
62' Smolov is replaced by Rybchinskiy. The Russian target man didn't offer too much tonight for the away side.
62' The physio’s are on for Camara who takes a whack in the face following a Zhemaletdinov cross.
61' Lokomotiv Moscow have enjoyed a slight resurgence in the last few minutes. A huge 50/50 challenge between Rybus and Vallci stops play for the moment.
59' Salzburg’s only previous encounters with Russian opponents was in the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League group stage, when they failed to win either match against FK Krasnodar (D1 L1). They’ll be hoping to keep hold of this lead and grab all three points in this second-half to change that record.
57' Great play from the away side sees them move the ball over the half-way line on the break before Miranchuk is fouled. That’s alleviated the pressure for now.
55' This is much, much better from Salzburg and a sight we’re use to seeing with them usually in European football. The pace and movement upfront is becoming too much to handle for Corluka and co at the back for Lokomotiv Moscow.
M. Berisha
S. Koïta
53' An early second-half substitution from Salzburg as Koita is replaced by Berisha. The departing forward was not happy with that decision!
52' POST! Salzburg are dominating here and their pace is causing Lokomotiv all sorts of problems. Koita gets the ball and takes on two men before smashing the near post from around 15 yards out.
P. Daka
50' Great play from Daka who held off his defender before finding the goalscorer on the edge of the box.
Z. Junuzović
50' GOOOAAAAALLLLL!!! 2-1 TO SALZBURG. JUNUZOVIC. It’s been coming in this second half for the home side. The ball is played into Daka in the penalty area who breaks from his man and plays a pass to the edge of the box. Junuzovic is there to guide it into the far bottom right-hand corner with the help of a deflection.
49' It’s all Salzburg so far in this half. The home side have begun with a real bounce in their step and Lokomotiv are struggling to cope with the pace. Mwepu is hacked down by Rybus out wide and they have a dangerous free-kick.
47' The home side immediately charge forward from the second-half kick-off and a lovely ball is played into the box by Mwepu. It bobbles around but it’s eventually cleared by the visitors.
46' Both teams are back out on the field and the action resumes here in the second-half.
With Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid also in their Champions League group, a draw wouldn’t be too great for either side this evening. Expect both teams to come out and really push for a second-half breakthrough.
A late strike from Szoboszlai levels the scores at 1-1 heading into the break after Eder had scored early on for Lokomotiv Moscow. That could ignite the action when the second-half resumes.
Z. Junuzović
45' Great vision from Junuzovic to play the corner quickly there. The finish that followed was simply sublime.
D. Szoboszlai
45' GOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!!! 1-1. SZOBOSZLAI. WHAT A GOAL THAT IS!!! The corner is taken quickly by Junuzovic and the Hungarian youngster unleashes a sweet right-footed strike into the top right-hand corner with help from the crossbar. A very similar technique to that of a certain Cristiano Ronaldo. A lovely hit from 30 yards to level the scores.
44' A brilliantly timed tackle from Corluka on Daka results in a corner for the home side. The home fans were certain it looked like a foul instead though.
43' The delivery from the resulting free-kick is poor and the home side clear with ease. It’s all getting scrappy here and a bit feisty.
D. Szoboszlai
Yellow Card
41' Szoboszlai is booked by the referee after fouling Zhemaletdinov for the second time in a few minutes.
40' The home fans are getting a bit frustrated here after the referee fails to give a few consecutive decisions their way. Lokomotiv Moscow will thrive in these conditions.
38' With an average age of just 23 in their squad, Salzburg are struggling against the experience of their visitors tonight. Corluka the latest to make a tactically foul to take the sting out of the home side’s attacking play.
36' Daka – who is largely seen as the next Erling Haaland in these parts – has really struggled so far tonight to assert his dominance on the game. He will be hoping to turn his performance around from here.
34' The home side get a dangerous free-kick on the edge of the Lokomotiv box as Smolov fouls Camara. Szoboszlai’s delivery is overhit though and collected with ease by Guilherme.
32' Salzburg are now beginning to enjoy more of the possession in this clash. Lokomotiv are more than happy to defend from the front and sit with a lot of bodies behind the ball.
30' Salzburg netted 16 goals in the UEFA Champions League group stage last season but were eliminated in 3rd place, only the second team to score as many as 16 and be eliminated after Chelsea in 2012/13.
27' Salzburg are growing into this tie now and have another effort, this time from Ulmer. The left back pounces on a loose ball just inside the Lokomotiv Moscow box but his strike is straight at the goalkeeper.
25' Both sides are fighting hard in midfield for possession. The experienced Krychowiak versus the young Camara is an intriguing battle in the heart of the action.
23' CHANCE! Koita brings the ball forward for Salzburg and slips in his strike partner, Daka who fires straight at the goalkeeper from close range. Great keeping by Guilherme.
21' It’s a great response from the hosts who have a dangerous free-kick just outside the Lokomotiv penalty area. The ball is swung in but cleared with relatively ease.
R. Zhemaletdinov
19' It was a great flick on from Zhemaletdinov at the near post to set up the chance. A bit of a training ground routine from the visitors.
19' GOOOAAAALLLL!!!!!! 1-0 LOKOMOTIV MOSCOW!!!! EDER. The visitors have the lead from a corner. The ball is delivered and flicked on at the near post by winger Zhemaletdinov but this is all about the finish afterwards. The Portuguese international holds off his man and heads into the bottom left corner from around 15 yards out. Great finish.
17' Lokomotiv respond by grabbing their first corner of the match soon after. Again, the set piece doesn’t come to much and Salzburg break away.
16' Salzburg have their first effort at goal through Szoboszlai. The midfielder cuts inside from the left and has a crack from 30 yards but it’s turned behind for a corner by Guilherme. Nothing comes from the resulting delivery.
14' A few heavy challenges go in from either side, but the referee is happy to let the play continue. It’s got a little bit feisty in the last few minutes here in Austria.
12' Despite their early energy, Salzburg are yet to really get control of this match. Both sides seem happy to sit behind the ball when the other is in possession so far this evening.
10' Lokomotiv Moscow have won just one of their last 13 away UEFA Champions League matches (D2 L10). That win came last season on the road against Bayer Leverkusen.
8' Another chance for the visitors. Zhemaletdinov gets himself free down the right wing and charges into the Salzburg box but his chipped effort is just wide.
7' CHANCE! Lokomotiv Moscow work it well around Salzburg’s penalty area and Miranchuk is in on goal just outside the six-yard box. His left-footed effort is well hit but Stankovic gets down very quickly to keep the score line even.
5' Just over 3,000 Salzburg fans are in attendance tonight for this clash. You’d think there was a full house here though with the amount of noise they’re generating. It’s great to have a real atmosphere tonight to welcome back European football.
3' Salzburg have begun this Champions League tie strongly. The Austrian outfit have seen plenty of the early possession and have already thrown a few crosses into the Lokomotiv Moscow box.
1' Referee Serdar Gozubuyuk blows his whistle and we’re underway here in the historic city of Salzburg!
The players are emerging from the tunnel and kick-off is just moments away.
Tonight’s clash is the first ever European encounter between Salzburg and Lokomotiv Moscow.
Lokomotiv Moscow also come into this Champions League tie with a near full strength squad to pick from. Former West Brom midfielder Krychowiak starts in the middle of the park whilst the experience of Eder and Smolov upfront could prove vital for the visitors. The recent departure of star winger Aleksey Miranchuk to Italian side Atalanta leaves a big void out wide for last season’s Russian Premier League runners-up but his twin brother Anton starts tonight.
Salzburg start with a full-strength side tonight under American boss Jesse Marsch. The impressive young quartet of Wober, Camara, Szoboszlai and Daka all start for the Austrian outfit and will be looking to make an impact on the biggest stage in club football. The experienced Junuzovic anchors his side in central midfield.
LOKOMOTIV MOSCOW SUBS: Anton Kochenkov, Aleksandr Kasyanenko, Vitali Lystsov, Francois Kamano, Ze Luis, Nikolay Titkov, Aleksandr Silyanov, Nikita Iosifov, Artur Chyorny, Aleksandr Mukhin, Vitali Lisakovich, Dmitri Rybchinskiy.
