Commentary

That's all for today. Goodbye.
Next up, Madrid travel to RB Leipzig in the Champions League, with Sevilla hosting Copenhagen.
Two goals in two second half minutes helped Madrid overcome a resurgent Sevilla to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. Madrid took an early lead through captain Modric, who made a late burst into the box to tuck Vinicius' pass across the box into the net. The home side dominated the first half, but only had one shot on target and were made to pay for their inaccuracies in front of goal in the second. Giving the ball away for the opener, Montiel’s throughball found Lamela for the leveller. Unmarked, he stroked the ball past the returning Courtois. The game turned frantic with opportunities at either end. However, it was Ancelotti’s inspired substitutes who made the difference. Seconds after his introduction, Vazquez converted Vinicius’ cutback to give the home side the lead, with the Brazilian unselfishly giving the Spaniard an open goal to aim at after being one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Moments after the celebrations had concluded, Valverde took one touch before lashing the ball into the top corner from outside the box. Asensio was the assister this time, who came on at the same time as Vazquez. With three points confirmed, there was a late concern for the third Madrid scorer, who hobbled off the pitch at full-time after colliding with Gomez.

E. Lamela
Goal
Sevilla
54' GOALLLLLLL! LAMELA SCORES! 1-1! Sevilla have found an equaliser. A threaded ball through on the edge of the box by Montiel finds the Sevilla winger who evaded the Madrid defence. From a tight angle, he slots the ball past Courtois who got a touch on it. However, it was not enough, with the ball rolling over the line.

47' Rodrygo receives the ball from Valverde and aims low looking to beat Bounou from the edge of the box but has his attempt blocked.
46' Madrid get the game back underway.
Madrid have looked in control for most of the first half but should look to break faster on the counter-attack. The direct runs of Vinicius and Rodrygo have been an issue for the Sevilla defence, who turn towards their own goal when facing the Brazilians. One of Madrid's best players so far this season, the home side must also look to give Valverde the ball more often, with Carvajal providing a dangerous overlap. For Sevilla, there is no surprise that they have had just one shot on target. Regularly outnumbered when on the attack, Militao has found it easy to nullify Lamela who is the only man entering the opposition box.
Madrid have the lead at half-time after an early goal from captain Modric. Despite the Croatian scoring, most of the credit should go to Vinicius. Dispossessing Montiel, the 22-year-old drove the ball inside the box and patiently waited for options. Bursting onto the scene was Modric, who made a late run to receive the Brazilian’s pass to score from close range. It was Madrid’s only shot on target in the opening 45 minutes, with Alaba’s curling free-kick and Rodrygo’s shot from inside the box going just over. For Sevilla, they have been made to defend for most of the half but could have found an equaliser moments before the break. Making a mistake for the first goal, Montiel could have provided an assist for the leveller, but Jesus could only find the palms of Courtois with a powerful low attempt.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: REAL MADRID 1-0 SEVILLA
45' Sevilla have their first shot on target. Montiel gives the ball to Navas inside the box, with the former Manchester City man drilling a low effort into the palms of Courtois.
42' CHANCE! Madrid could have scored a second through Vinicius. The Brazilian receives a pass from Valverde who flicks it inside. The winger then rolls the ball past Gudelj who pulled out of the challenge before looking to beat the goalkeeper. Looking to go around Bounou, he loses control of it and Sevilla get possession back.
40' Modric receives the ball from Vinícius. Inside the box, he hesitates before he shoots, cutting inside from the right before having his effort blocked out for a corner by Telles.
38' The free-kick from Rakitic hits the wall and the chance is wasted.
A. Tchouaméni
Yellow Card
Real Madrid
37' Tchouameni gets a yellow card after sliding down Lamela on the edge of the box. It is within shooting range.
35' A little exchange between Marcao and Modric. The Sevilla man refused to give the ball to the Croatian after conceding a throw-in, with the midfielder attempting to push the ball out of his hands.
33' Modric looks to score again. He shoots from the edge after receiving a short pass from Valverde but curls it wide of the post.
G. Montiel
Yellow Card
Sevilla
31' Montiel gets a yellow card for Sevilla.
30' Madrid have taken 28 of a possible 30 points in LaLiga 22/23 (W9 D1), equalling their best tally after their first 10 games of the season in the history of the competition (28 points in the 1968/69 and 1991/92 campaigns, converted to three points per win). They will secure another three points if their domination in this match continues.
Joan Jordán
Yellow Card
Sevilla
28' Jordan gets the first yellow card of the game after sliding down Vinicius who was breaking down the middle of the pitch.
25' Vinicius makes another bursting run inside before having his shot blocked on the edge by Marcao. He is down for a couple of seconds after colliding with the defender but will be fine.
23' Sevilla are having a spell of possesion but are struggling to break into Madrid's third. The back-four are defending in a narrow shape to compact the middle of the pitch, with Valverde and Vinicius coming back to defend the wide areas.
21' Rodrygo turns and spins on the ball looking to challenge the Sevilla defence. Darting into the box from the left, he curls his attempt over the bar. Bounou had this one covered.
19' CLOSE! Alaba elects to take the free-kick, with his curling effort going just over the top right corner. Bounou went diving across his goal but was nowhere near the ball. If it was on target, Madrid would have scored.
17' Madrid get a free-kick in a shooting position after Vinicius is brought down by Jordan. It is positioned just to the right with Kroos and Alaba over it.
15' Lamela gets the ball inside the Madrid box. From a tight angle, his shot deflects off of Militao and goes out for a corner. He originally got past the Brazilian who recovered well to put the ball behind.
12' Navas crosses the ball towards Lamela who is nudged out of the way. With the ball remaining on the pitch, Torres passes to Telles who slams a shot against a Carvajal with the ball going out for a corner.
10' Madrid are now controlling possesion with Sevilla trapped in their own defensive third.
7' Sevilla have conceded three goals in the first 15 minutes of the first half, only Getafe (5) and Girona (4) have conceded more in La Liga this season.
Vinícius Júnior
Assist
Real Madrid
6' Vinicius gets the assist after winning back possession. The Brazilian could have scored moments before, rolling the ball past Gudelj before losing control of the ball as it entered the Sevilla box.
L. Modrić

4' Marcao and Carvajal get into a battle next to the corner flag. The Sevilla man losses possession of the ball before Carvajal knocks it out of play for a goal-kick.
2' The ball has been in the air for most of the opening minute. Both teams are struggling to retain possession.
