Commentary

That's all from a close contest in Seville today, so thank you for joining us and goodbye!
After today's dramatic finale, both teams will next appear in European competition. Atleti face a Champions League fixture against Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday, while Betis must bounce back in Bulgaria, as they visit Europa League rivals Ludogorets on Thursday.
Following on the heels of a subdued first half, the second burst into life when Griezmann scored the first of his match-winning brace direct from a corner on 54 minutes. From there, Atleti extended their lead and seemed set for a comfortable victory. However, Betis had other ideas and Fekir's free-kick was followed by a Moreno header against the crossbar in the dying moments, as the hosts fought to maintain their unbeaten home record - but to no avail. Simeone's men pull three points clear of their opponents, then, and record yet another away win.
90' + 5' FULL-TIME: REAL BETIS 1-2 ATLETICO MADRID
90' + 3' SAVE! Silva narrows the angle at his near post to deny his Portuguese compatriot Joao Felix with a sharp stop! De Paul picked his fellow substitute out with a threaded throughball, but the striker couldn't find the right finish from a tight angle.
90' + 1' OFF THE BAR! From a whipped Ruibal cross to the back post, Moreno arrives to meet the ball on the edge of the six-yard box and crashes a header off the crossbar! Oblak was beaten, but Atleti escape! What a golden chance to equalise, but it's gone begging!
Rui Silva
Yellow Card
Real Betis
89' Caught out of position after attempting a clearance well outside his box - and not for the first time today - Silva clearly handles the ball and is consequently booked.
88' Simeone is in full ranting mode on the touchline, as he urges his weary troops to commit every last drop of sweat to securing three precious points!
R. De Paul
Saúl
Atlético Madrid
86' De Paul is brought on to add fresh legs in midfield, as Atletico aim to see out the game safely. Saul makes way.
N. Fekir
Goal
Real Betis
84' BETIS STRIKE BACK! After winning a free-kick on the edge of the Atleti area, Fekir steps up to take the attempt himself. Arrowing the ball past a flat-footed Oblak and into the left side of the net, the Frenchman pulls his team back into the match: it's now only a one-goal deficit!
82' Fekir is already making his presence felt, and after his involvement in the build-up, Cruz skews a left-footed shot from the centre of the box high over the crossbar.
80' Betis have most of the territorial advantage now, but time is running out at Benito Villamarin. A comeback looks unlikely at this stage.
78' After receiving the ball from Ruibal, an unbalanced shot from Iglesias bobbles up harmlessly into the waiting gloves of Oblak. More frustration for the fans: can Betis break through the orange wall before them? They need two goals - and quickly!
Y. Carrasco
A. Griezmann
Atlético Madrid
76' Having quite probably won the match for his team with two goals, Griezmann's shift is over. Carrasco comes on.
João Félix
Á. Correa
Atlético Madrid
76' Simeone makes a switch up front: Correa is replaced by Joao Felix.
Aitor Ruibal
Y. Sabaly
Real Betis
76' Sabaly also makes way for Betis; Ruibal replaces the injured full-back.
N. Fekir
A. Guardado
Real Betis
75' With the situation getting increasingly desperate, Pellegrini turns to Fekir. The playmaker replaces Betis skipper Guardado for the final 15 minutes.
73' Griezmann has now scored eight times in 20 appearances against Real Betis, and that's his fifth league goal of the season; making him Atletico's leading scorer.
A. Griezmann
Goal
Atlético Madrid
71' GRIEZMANN STRIKES AGAIN! The visitors score a brilliant team goal, as swift interchanges between Correa, Cunha and its finisher, Griezmann, lead to a two-goal lead for Atleti! The French forward stayed cool to complete the move with a low shot under Silva from five yards, though the goalkeeper came within inches of scrambling to keep it out!
Matheus Cunha
Assist
Atlético Madrid
71' After taking the ball from Correa on the right side of the area, Cunha found Griezmann to round off a delightful attacking move.
G. Kondogbia
Yellow Card
Atlético Madrid
69' For deliberately halting the progress of Moreno in midfield, Kondogbia is the latest player booked by the referee.
67' Griezmann has now been involved in a goal during each of his last four games in La Liga (two goals and two assists). Benito Villamarin was the stadium he had visited most times (nine) without scoring before finding the net from a corner today.
Joaquín
Rodri
Real Betis
65' Youngster Rodri also makes way, as senior statesman Joaquin appears for a cameo from the bench.
Juan Cruz
Luiz Henrique
Real Betis
65' Pellegrini surprisingly opts to replace Henrique; Cruz comes on.
64' Iglesias hauls back Kondogbia, who then topples to the turf rather dramatically. The Atletico midfielder makes a miraculous recovery, but the pause in play sets up a couple of substitutions for Betis.
62' Iglesias sees a shot from outside the box blocked, as Betis look to find a way back into the game. They are not accustomed to losing at home, so will not give this up easily.
60' Driving into some space on the left side of the area, Kondogbia lets fly with an attempt at goal, but pulls his shot well wide of the target.
Matheus Cunha
Álvaro Morata
Atlético Madrid
59' Shortly after being booked, Morata makes way for Cunha up front.
Álvaro Morata
Yellow Card
Atlético Madrid
58' After angrily responding to Rodriguez's foul, Morata is shown a yellow card.
G. Rodríguez
Yellow Card
Real Betis
57' For a crunching foul on Morata in midfield, Rodriguez is booked by the referee.
A. Griezmann
Goal
Atlético Madrid
54' ATLETI LEAD! Not long after almost going behind, the visitors strike direct from a corner! An inswinging effort from Griezmann, on the right, bounces before evading the Betis defenders and rolls into the net via Pezzella's failed clearance! It's 1-0 to Los Colchoneros!
53' Correa drives a shot goalwards from the right side of the box, but Ruiz flings himself in the way to prevent it testing Silva. That's another corner for the away side.
51' Sabaly does well to track a Morata run to the left byline, and manages to turn the ball behind for a corner. Atleti fail to make much of the set-piece opportunity, though.
49' NO GOAL! On second inspection, Iglesias was narrowly offside when he played a major role in Henrique's goal. That means we stay at 0-0: Atleti escape!
48' BETIS STRIKE! On the counter, the home side streak clear of an exposed defence, and Iglesias charges towards the Atleti area. Though Molina holds him up and gets a foot on the ball, it breaks to Henrique, who thunders it into the top-right corner! However, the VAR is now analysing the build-up for an offside offence.
47' Perhaps the present scoreline should not be a surprise: Real Betis have now stopped the opposition from scoring a first-half goal in eight of their 11 league games this term, only Atletico Madrid (10) have done so more often.
46' Betis kick off, and we are back under way in Seville!
Atletico Madrid have avoided defeat in 12 of their last 13 visits to Benito Villamarin in La Liga, and that seems to be their priority today. They have a handful of potential game-changers on the bench, though, so Simeone could mix things up in the closing stages. Meanwhile, Fekir's introduction would add a new dimension for Betis.
A cautiously conducted first half deservedly ends goalless, as neither team were able to fully stretch the other despite some space appearing as the game wore on. Atletico Madrid have shown limited ambition, and are yet to force a shot on target, while Betis have been unable to capitalise on their dominance of the ball. With the stakes relatively high, given both sides' stature in La Liga, will either really go for the throat after the break?
45' + 5' HALF-TIME: REAL BETIS 0-0 ATLETICO MADRID
45' + 4' With Silva out of position after an attempted clearance, Griezmann attempts an ambitious shot at goal from way out on the right touchline. Though it causes some panic in the displaced Betis defence, the ball ultimately skews wide to the left.
45' + 2' CLOSE! From the free-kick, 20 yards out on the right, Guardado whips a dipping shot at goal; forcing Oblak to stretch for a fingertip save! The goalkeeper guides it over his crossbar and behind for a corner.
45' + 1' Due to a couple of earlier stoppages, four minutes of additional time has been indicated by the officials. In the first, Henrique drives inside from the right flank and buys a free-kick from Reinildo in a dangerous area, just outside the box.
44' Atletico Madrid may have not managed a single shot on target so far today, but Betis have had just one. There's not much for the home crowd to get excited about.
42' Morata goes down holding his head after receiving an arm to the face from Sabaly. No action is taken by the referee or VAR, despite Simeone signalling the universal 'elbow' gesture from the sideline.
40' An inswinging corner from the left by Guardado picks out Ruiz in the centre of the box, but the substitute's header zips wide of the right-hand post. Approaching half-time, the home side are pushing back against their visitors' advance.
N. Molina
Yellow Card
Atlético Madrid
38' An ill-timed lunging challenge by Molina sees the right-back receive the game's first yellow card, for bringing down the rapid Henrique by the touchline.
37' SAVE! Finally, Oblak is forced into action, as a spell of Betis pressure ends with Iglesias collecting the ball on the right side of the box and driving a low shot towards the near post. Diving down to his left, it is a smart stop by the Atleti keeper.
35' A couple of stepovers from Carvalho takes the Portugal midfielder past two defenders and towards the left byline, but Correa shuts him down and bundles the ball behind for a corner.
33' Despite Betis' recent attempt at the other end, most of the play is taking place in the hosts' half now. Atletico are moving the ball more purposefully, though carving out a clear-cut chance has been beyond them so far.
31' MISS! Perhaps the hosts' best opening falls to Henrique, on the right side of the area, as he receives a short pass from Iglesias and fires well over the crossbar from around 15 yards out!
30' Morata receives the ball on the edge of the box, deliberately turns and lets fly with a powerful shot, but sees it blocked at close quarters by two descending Betis defenders.
28' Again, Griezmann picks the ball up in the centre circle and drives Atleti forward, before a Correa cross from right to left just fails to find Morata at the back post.
26' Following a brief pause in the action due to a disturbance in the crowd, play resumes. The visitors have slowly but surely edged a few yards up the pitch over the past 10 minutes and are posing more of a threat.
24' Griezmann continually drops deep to make the play for Atleti, who are in need of some creativity from such areas. His ball through for Correa almost opens up the Betis defence down the right, but the door is quickly closed.
22' Betis may have had 63 per cent of the ball so far, but Atletico have won three-quarters of the duels: 15 to their hosts' tally of five.
Víctor Ruiz
Luiz Felipe
Real Betis
20' Due to what appears to be a hamstring injury, Felipe is forced to make way for Ruiz. That's not ideal for Pellegrini - certainly with some Europa League commitments coming up in the next couple of weeks.
18' The game is brought to a momentary halt, as Felipe drops down to the turf with an apparent muscular injury. He pulled up quickly when chasing back to cover on the edge of his own area.
16' A perceptive throughball by Griezmann to the edge of the box almost picks out Saul, who drifts in from his position on the left, but the unmarked midfielder just misses making contact. He may have been offside in any case.
14' Despite the vibrancy of a lively home crowd, the pace has been particularly pedestrian in Seville so far: the visitors are happy to frustrate their hosts - and ideally their noisy fans too.
12' While Betis have won their last six home games in LaLiga - their longest run in the top flight since 2005 - Atletico have not lost any of their last seven LaLiga away games. Something must give today, then.
10' Griezmann responds angrily when Saul is penalised for a tussle with Sabaly on the left flank, and it has been a frustrating start to the game for Atleti's service-starved forwards.
8' Sabaly manages to combine with Henrique on the right, cleverly lifting the ball over his marker's leg and picking out Carvalho in the centre. The midfielder sends his shot spinning wide of the left-hand post, though, with Oblak left untroubled.
6' Betis have seized the initiative during the opening stages, as they dominate possession and pass patiently in front of two banks of bright orange shirts, as worn by Atleti today.
4' Following a heavily deflected Rodri cross from the right, Rodriguez latches on to the loose ball just outside the box, but lashes it over the crossbar with a rather wild shot.
2' After making a surging run down the left flank, and almost squeezing a cross into the Betis box, Saul brings down Henrique by the corner flag and concedes an early free-kick.
1' The visitors kick off, and we are under way at Benito Villamarin!
The players are out on the pitch in sunny Seville, and after a rousing rendition of Betis' club anthem, kick-off is now just moments away!
Atletico are boosted by the return of first-choice goalkeeper Oblak today, as the Slovenian stopper is back in action after suffering a concussion against Athletic Bilbao last weekend; Ivo Grbic makes way. Thomas Lemar recently joined Koke and Marcos Llorente in the treatment room with a muscular injury, so Correa comes into the side. Diego Simeone also promotes Witsel to his starting XI.
As Sergio Canales was sent off for dissent in the dying moments of Betis' midweek draw, his subsequent suspension rules the forward out today; he joins injured Juanmi on the sidelines, but Fekir is fit enough to make the bench. In a side overhauled following Wednesday's fixture in Cadiz, Borja Iglesias returns to lead the line, having been involved in six of the hosts' last 10 league goals at Benito Villamarin.
SUBS: Ivo Grbic, Alejandro Iturbe, Pablo Barrios Rivas, Felipe, Rodrigo de Paul, Sergio, Yannick Carrasco, Mario Hermoso, Joao Felix, Matheus Cunha.
ATLETICO MADRID (4-4-2): Jan Oblak; Nahuel Molina, Jose Gimenez, Stefan Savic, Reinildo; Angel Correa, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Axel Witsel, Saul Niguez; Antoine Griezmann, Alvaro Morata.
SUBS: Claudio Bravo, Edgar Gonzalez, Aitor Ruibal, Martin Montoya, Juan Miranda, Willian Jose, Victor Ruiz, Joaquin, Nabil Fekir, Loren Moron, Juan Cruz, Paul Akouokou.
REAL BETIS (4-2-3-1): Rui Silva; Youssouf Sabaly, Luiz Felipe, German Pezzella, Alex Moreno; Andres Guardado, Guido Rodriguez; Luiz Henrique, William Carvalho, Rodri; Borja Iglesias.
Now facing a fixture which could prove important in the race for LaLiga's top four, Atletico Madrid were also held to a disappointing draw in midweek. After leading for much of the game, the capital club conceded a stoppage-time penalty against Rayo Vallecano, which was converted by former Atleti striker Radamel Falcao. That followed victory in Bilbao last weekend, and Los Colchoneros have won four of their five road trips this season. Furthermore, they are unbeaten in their last six meetings with Betis.
Aiming to leapfrog their opponents and break into the top four with a win, Real Betis tackle Atletico on the back of another failure to secure victory on the road. Cadiz secured a goalless draw against Manuel Pellegrini's men on Wednesday, leaving Betis fifth in LaLiga. Last week, though, Los Verdiblancos rallied late on to post a 3-1 win at home to Almeria - their fifth consecutive home success, which maintains a 100% league record in front of their own fans.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of today's LaLiga encounter between Real Betis and Atletico Madrid, at Estadio Benito Villamarin!
