Norwich City v Leeds United Live Commentary, 31/10/2021

1 - 2
A. Omobamidele (58)
Raphinha (56)
Rodrigo (60)
Carrow Road

It's relief for Leeds, then, while Norwich have some serious thinking to do. If the Canaries don't turn things around quickly this could be a record-breaking season for all the wrong reasons. That's all for now. Goodbye!
The Premier League table looks far better for Leeds now. They rise to 17th, three points above Burnley. Norwich stay bottom of the table with a measly two points from 10 games, eight points from safety already. Even for Norwich's patient owners, this defeat may be the final straw as far as Farke's job is concerned.
Boos ring out around Carrow Road as Leeds secure a vital win! The visitors got the better of a flurry of three goals in four minutes, inspired by their mercurial winger Raphinha. Norwich were good value for a point but faltered at the crucial moment as Krul could have kept out Rodrigo's winner.
90' + 5' Norwich get one last chance to put the ball in Leeds' box as Roberts fouls McLean near the halfway line. To Norwich fans' ire, the hosts opt to take it short before Normann fluffs his pass out wide. The referee blows his whistle and that's it!
90' + 4' Rashica's chance effort from the centre of the box misses wide to the left. Up the other end, Raphinha finds Roberts whose long-range effort is saved by Krul.
90' + 3' Raphinha lies down briefly as he receives some attention for cramp. He's been a real threat to Norwich all game.
90' + 2' Omobamidele ventures over the halfway line and fires the ball forward. Norwich keep things moving before putting a rogue pass out of play. The Leeds fans ironically cheer. Farke turns and faces the bench in disappointment.
90' + 1' There'll be five minutes of time added onto the end here. That's enough time for Norwich to equalise if they can create one good opportunity.
90' Aarons beats Harrison with a change of pace and floats a high cross towards the far post. Placheta gets on the end of it but can't get his feet together in time. Norwich just lack attacking quality.
T. Roberts
Leeds United
88' Leeds make a change too. Roberts will replace Rodrigo for the last few minutes of this match.
P. Płacheta
G. Hanley
Norwich City
88' Norwich are going for broke. Their captain Hanley goes off. Their pacy Polish left winger Placheta comes on.
87' Rodrigo's shot from outside the box is blocked. Krul is called into action once more to steal the ball from Raphinha who's lurking up front.
85' Rashica slides to the turf to make a well-timed interception. The Kosovan has been Norwich's best player here, not that that's saying much.
84' Tzolis skips inside from the right and plays a pass straight to Dramek, drawing groans from the home fans. This could get ugly.
83' Norwich are showing no signs of grabbing a second equaliser. Leeds are successfully neutralising them at the moment.
82' The ever-forceful Kabak sees off the challenge of Rodrigo who's left in a heap on the turf. The referee takes a second or two to blow the whistle in Leeds' favour.
81' Things are starting to get a little ill-tempered. Normann and Dallas have a bit of a spat, leading the referee to call them over. The pair soon make up.
80' Again Norwich's free-kick from Rashica's industry is a waste. The hosts really do look toothless for the most part. Rashica aims for the bottom right corner, drawing a decent save from Krul.
C. Drameh
Yellow Card
Leeds United
79' Rashica takes on Phillips and Drameh and gets taken out by the latter. Drameh's shown a yellow card.
A. Forshaw
D. James
Leeds United
77' Leeds make another change of their own to tighten things up. Forshaw, a central midfielder, comes on for James.
A. Idah
J. Sargent
Norwich City
77' Sargent heads off. The American hasn't been particularly involved in the game for Norwich. The Republic of Ireland striker Idah replaces him up front.
76' Leeds are starting to look more confident now. Norwich's substitutions haven't made a whole lot of difference yet. Maybe another one will.
74' Raphinha is still troubling Norwich. Harrison creates some space for himself and finds the Brazilian who snatches wide from inside the box.
73' Rashica and McLean dwell over the free-kick. Rashica eventually steps up to strike it straight into Leeds' defensive wall.
72' Harrison's backpass goes straight to Pukki who dribbles into a crowd of Leeds defenders. Cooper is too firm in his challenge and Norwich will have a free-kick from the centre of the D.
C. Drameh
J. Shackleton
Leeds United
71' Shackleton hobbles off, having been in the thick of the action. Drameh takes his place at right-back for Leeds.
C. Tzolis
K. Dowell
Norwich City
69' Dowell is the player who makes way, justifably so. The 24-year-old hasn't been great. Norwich's teenage Greek winger Tzolis comes on.
68' Dowell's ball in is very poor. It sails over everyone and out for a goal-kick. Norwich will make that trailed change now.
J. Shackleton
Yellow Card
Leeds United
67' Shackleton is booked for bundling over Rashica down Norwich's left. Let's see what the home side can do with this delivery.
66' Pukki wriggles free down Norwich's right but can't find a teammate with his ball in. Norwich are preparing Tzolis to come on.
65' Leeds' free-kick isn't great but Harrison gets a second chance to test Norwich. The winger's low ball in and Dallas' shot are blocked before Shackleton loops a cross into Krul at his near post.
64' Rashica trips Raphinha and is disappointed to give away a free-kick. Raphinha has been a class apart from everyone else on the pitch. He's wonderful to watch.
63' Raphinha fails to keep a wayward pass in play and accidentally crashes into Bielsa in the process. The Brazilian helps his boss to his feet.
62' The atmosphere in Carrow Road has gone up a notch now, and no wonder! Norwich earn a corner down their left as McLean's long-range shot is blocked by Llorente. Rashica finds McLean who heads straight into Meslier's arms at the far post.
K. Phillips
Leeds United
60' Phillips gets the assist but Krul is just as culpable for that goal. The Norwich keeper arguably could have done better.
Leeds United
60' GOAL! NORWICH CITY 1-2 LEEDS UNITED! Where did all these goals come from?! Rodrigo receives a pass from Phillips and has a pop at goal from range. It looks like Krul will get down in time to reach it but it squirms past the Norwich keeper and into the net!
M. Rashica
Norwich City
58' Rashica's had his moments for Norwich in this game and got his delivery right there. It's at a vital time for Norwich too. It's all square!
A. Omobamidele
Norwich City
58' GOAL! NORWICH CITY 1-1 LEEDS UNITED! Norwich are back in this with a set-piece goal! Rashica swings the corner in and Omobamidele rises high above Leeds' defenders to nod the ball into the far corner.
57' Shackleton plays a pass back to Meslier whose return ball is wayward and goes out for a Norwich corner. Meslier may live to regret such sloppiness.
D. James
Leeds United
56' James' ball to find Raphinha was lovely and the Brazilian did the rest. Leeds may be heading for victory!
Leeds United
56' GOAL! NORWICH CITY 0-1 LEEDS UNITED! Who else but that man Raphinha? The Brazilian latches onto James' crossfield pass, skips past two or three Norwich defenders to reach the centre of the box and slots home through a crowd of bodies.
55' Dowell nips in on Struijk to send Rashica running down the left. Meslier is in the right place to grab the cross.
54' Bielsa, wearing a branded beanie hat, gets off his seat to yell some words of encouragement. Raphinha jinks towards Norwich's penalty area again only to have his cross blocked by Omobamidele.
53' Hanley gives Leeds the chance to run at Norwich's back line. Kabak comes across to sweep up.
52' Hanley searches for Rashica with another pinged pass forward. This one goes out for a throw-in down the left. Norwich are trying to get in behind Leeds as quickly as possible.
51' Harrison takes on Aarons but can't beat the wing-back. Sargent sniffs a counter-attack and Phillips is there to cut it out.
50' Rashica and Dowell stand over the ball. The Kosovan eventually strikes it towards goal but it's straight at Meslier.
49' Cooper trips Pukki just outside Leeds' box. Norwich could try shooting directly from this free-kick.
48' Aarons earns Norwich a free-kick in their own half. Hanley knocks the ball long and the hosts get a throw-in out of it.
K. McLean
Yellow Card
Norwich City
46' McLean is overeager in closing Meslier down and catches the Leeds keeper with a high foot. The Scot is booked.
46' Leeds get things going again. Neither side has made changes at half-time.
Norwich's poor record in front of goal is their biggest problem at the moment. They haven't scored more than once in any of their last 27 Premier League matches. Until Farke can find a way to get his side firing they will continue to struggle. Whoever finds the first goal in this match will likely go on to win.
This game has been low on quality but high on tension and energy. Norwich have been typically positive while lacking cutting edge. Leeds look menacing on the counter-attack, especially when Raphinha gets on the ball.
45' + 1' We've had one minute of added time. That'll be that for now.
45' Dowell whips the free-kick in with his left foot and Norwich pick up the pieces. Rashica lets fly from range, inspiring Meslier to dive across to keep the shot out. Norwich take the corner and Normann fizzes an effort just wide of the left-hand post from outside the box.
J. Harrison
Yellow Card
Leeds United
44' Harrison is booked for that challenge on Aarons. Dowell will take the free-kick for Norwich.
44' Aarons powers past Harrison down the right wing. Harrison slides in to win the ball and ends up taking the Norwich man out instead.
43' Leeds are getting a few more shots on Norwich's goal. Rodrigo lets rip from range and forces Krul to make a routine catch.
42' Raphinha has a shot blocked by Omobamidele which loops up into the arms of Krul.
41' Normann beats Phillips for pace and buys a foul deep in Norwich's midfield. The home side take the opportunity to push upfield as Krul launches the ball forward. Again Norwich are unable to create a chance of note.
40' James latches onto a pass over the top and briefly looks like causing Norwich trouble. Hanley comes across to put an end to the attack.
39' Kabak crudely brings down James down Leeds' left. Raphinha swings the free-kick in and Llorente heads out for a Norwich goal-kick.
37' Norwich race forward as Hanley beats Rodrigo to a header from Harrison's flick on. Sargent can't find the right pass though and the chance is gone.
36' Struijk nudges Sargent off the ball fairly and pumps upfield but no one in Leeds white can do anything with the ball. Krul waits for a while as Leeds sit off before aimlessly punting forward.
34' Norwich earn a throw-in down their right. The hosts play pretty triangles around Dallas and Harrison and inch their way forward.
33' McLean hands possession to Leeds who stream forward on the counter. Krul races off his line to stop James from reaching a throughball. McLean holds his hands up to apologise to his teammates.
Yellow Card
Leeds United
32' Rodrigo receives a yellow card for a clumsy challenge on Normann as Norwich try to play their way out.
31' Krul's pass out wide to McLean is wayward. Shackleton finds Raphinha with the throw-in and Norwich block Harrison's cross.
30' Raphinha is causing Norwich problems every time he gets on the ball. Norwich will have to be aware of him all game.
29' Meslier clears upfield under pressure from Sargent. Leeds win the second ball and Omobamidele recovers just in time to stop Raphinha from crossing in the box.
28' Hanley calmly deals with Raphinha's ball down the line. Rashica earns Norwich a free-kick in their own half and some valuable breathing space.
26' Raphinha skips into the box and finds his path to goal blocked by Rashica. It's hard to tell who will score first here.
25' Norwich force a corner down their right. Leeds head it out but the hosts come straight back. Normann is caught in two minds whether to shoot or free Sargent and ends up doing neither.
24' Omobamidele carries Norwich out from the back. The home side circulate the ball and Aarons latches onto a throughball to enter the box. Struijk slides in to block the Norwich wing-back's speculative effort at goal.
23' Llorente and Aarons soon get to their feet and leave the pitch temporarily before coming back on. This has been a keenly fought affair so far.
21' McLean glides through midfield and is brought down by Dallas. Norwich get the advantage as Aarons darts into the box and is stopped by Llorente. The pair collide and the referee stops play so they can get treatment.
19' Meslier claims a Norwich cross into the box. The Canaries fling the ball into Leeds' penalty area a few more times to no avail as Rashica's header is blocked. The Kosovan's follow-up cross bounces out of play.
17' Raphinha spots Rodrigo steaming into the box but puts too much power on the pass for his teammate to control it. Leeds look threatening every time they go forward.
15' Pukki receives a pass with his back to goal and tussles with Shackleton who gets the better of him. Leeds go on the attack and Raphinha feeds Shackleton on the overlap. Omobamidele anticipates the pass well and lets it roll out for a goal-kick.
14' Dowell knocks Dallas off the ball and sends Sargent scampering forward. The referee pulls play back for a Leeds free-kick though.
13' Norwich will get another opportunity to test Leeds from a set-piece. Dowell goes for goal from way out and makes a mess of it.
12' Llorente trips Pukki, handing Norwich a free-kick down their left. The hosts take it quickly and Rashica's cross deflects to Pukki who slashes wide from the edge of the box. That wasn't too far from hitting the target.
10' Normann is OK to continue. The midfielder sends Pukki racing towards Leeds' corner flag but Cooper safely shepherds the ball out of play.
9' Normann is down injured and looks in some discomfort. It appears to be an ankle issue. A physio comes on to give the Norwegian some treatment.
7' Chance for Leeds! James beats Norwich's offside trap and lures Krul out of his goal. The Welshman beats the goalkeeper and taps towards the empty net but Norwich make a vital clearance off the line!
6' Raphinha carries the ball down the right and bustles into the penalty area. Kabak bravely sticks a foot out to steal the ball from the Brazilian, winning a foul in the process.
5' Phillips presses Normann high up the pitch and bundles him over from behind. Norwich get the free-kick.
4' Normann wins possession in midfield and fires a pass down the line for Sargent. The American's brought down in midfield though. It's not a foul.
2' The game has started at a promising pace. Kabak ventures into Leeds' penalty area and plays the ball off Struijk for a corner which Leeds clear.
1' The referee Anthony Taylor blows his whistle. Norwich get this game underway!
The two teams gather on the centre circle at Carrow Road for a minute's silence as The Last Post is played. It's impeccably observed.
This is a huge game for Norwich and Farke. Leeds have lost just one of their last five league visits to Carrow Road, while this is the first Premier League meeting between these two sides since May 1995, a 2-1 win for Leeds that confirmed Norwich's relegation. Will history repeat itself here?
Norwich make three changes to their line-up from their defeat by Chelsea. Rashica, Dowell and Omobamidele come in. Giannoulis, Lees-Melou and the suspended Gibson make way. There's just one change to Leeds from their 1-1 draw with Wolves. Phillips returns and replaces Klich in midfield.
SUBS: Crysencio Summerville, Charlie Cresswell, Joe Gelhardt, Tyler Roberts, Kristoffer Klaesson, Cody Drameh, Leo Fuhr Hjelde, Adam Forshaw, Mateusz Klich.
LEEDS UNITED (3-3-3-1): Illan Meslier; Diego Llorente, Pascal Struijk, Liam Cooper (c); Jamie Shackleton, Kalvin Phillips, Stuart Dallas; Raphinha, Daniel James, Jack Harrison; Rodrigo Moreno.
SUBS: Christos Tzolis, Brandon Williams, Angus Gunn, Lukas Rupp, Billy Gilmour, Adam Idah, Przemyslaw Placheta, Dimitrios Giannoulis, Pierre Lees-Melou.
NORWICH CITY (3-5-2): Tim Krul; Ozan Kabak, Grant Hanley (c), Andrew Omobamidele; Max Aarons, Kieran Dowell, Mathias Normann, Kenny McLean, Milot Rashica; Joshua Sargent, Teemu Pukki.
Leeds also need a win. Marcelo Bielsa's out-of-sorts Whites have picked up just seven points so far this season, their worst record at this stage of a top-season since 1988-89. If Norwich win, they're just two points from safety. If they lose, they're probably doomed. It's a proper relegation six-pointer!
After their embarrassing 7-0 thumping away to Chelsea last week, it's make-or-break time for Norwich. Boasting the joint-worst ever goal difference at this stage of a Premier League of -21, Daniel Farke's rock-bottom Canaries need their first Premier League win of the season soon if they are to have a chance of surviving relegation.
