Commentary

That's it from me here tonight. Until the next time, goodbye!
A point isn't all that useful to either side. Newcastle remain 17th, four points ahead of Fulham who have a game in hand. Wolves stay 12th but the teams either side of them both have games in hand to play tomorrow.
It ends all square, and that's probably fair enough. Newcastle were the better team in the first half with Almiron hitting the post and the effervescent Saint-Maximin having a goal ruled out for offside, but the pair both went off with injuries and the hosts lost their fluency in the second half. Lascelles nevertheless headed them in front from Fraser's pinpoint cross and the game looked to be fizzling out before a late flurry from Wolves. Neves twisted in the air to equalise with his first headed goal for the club while Jonny and the substitute Silva both had chances late on - the latter denied by Dubravka's reaction save onto the woodwork in stoppage time. Joelinton had Newcastle's best chance to win it but was denied by a stunning goalline clearance from Saiss with 10 minutes to play.
90' + 6' FULL-TIME: NEWCASTLE 1-1 WOLVES
R. Aït Nouri
Jonny Castro
90' + 4' A late sub for Wolves. Jonny off, Ait Nouri on.
90' + 4' Wolves are throwing everything at Newcastle now. Can they hold out?
90' + 2' What a save Dubravka! The corner isn't fully cleared and as the ball comes back in from the left, Silva meets it at the back post and looks certain to score. He gets his header on target but the Newcastle keeper does brilliantly to tip it onto the bar and away.
90' + 2' Saiss curls in a nice-looking cross from the left channel. Silva attacks it and Clark does really well to beat him to the ball and head behind for a corner from six yards out.
90' + 1' Five minutes of stoppage time.
90' Good chance! Traore gets away from Hayden down the left and picks out Jonny with a low cross. He shifts onto his weaker right foot and looks for the top-right corner, but bends his effort wide of the far post.
89' Neto goes absolutely mental at Traore after a misplaced pass from the Spaniard. He beat his man well in midfield but side-footed his pass straight out of play by the right corner flag.
88' After a brief stoppage, Mike Dean restarts play with a drop-ball for Shelvey. Moutinho fouls him instantly.
86' Hoever gets an early chance to drive forward through midfield but his first touch lets him down and the ball pops up out of his control.
K. Hoever
Nélson Semedo
85' Semedo limps off. Hoever comes on.
83' There's a break in play as Semedo is down receiving treatment.
Fábio Silva
Willian José
82' Wolves make a change up front, the teenager Fabio Silva coming on for Willian Jose.
81' What a clearance! Murphy carries the ball into the penalty area and finds Joelinton right on the penalty spot. He hits it first-time and beats the goalkeeper, but Saiss gets back to deflect it over the bar. Brilliant defending - Joelinton can't believe he hasn't scored but he hasn't done a lot wrong there.
80' Traore intercepts a rushed clearance from Dubravka and finds Neto out on the right. He gets to the edge of the area and stands up a cross towards the far post which Neves attacks again, but Hayden gets above him to head clear.
78' Neves' goal was his first headed goal for Wolves. Which perhaps isn't too surprising for a midfielder of his ilk, but he isn't especially small.
77' Fraser whips in a free-kick from the left but Willian Jose gets back and makes a strong defensive header.
75' Into the last 15 minutes now. Will Newcastle push forward again or, shorn of Almiron and Saint-Maximin, will they settle for a point?
75' Willian Jose deserves a mention. He has barely been in the game tonight but his run towards the near post helped buy Neves a little bit of space, and the midfielder did brilliantly with his header.
Pedro Neto
Assist
73' Neto gets the assist for a fine cross.
Rúben Neves
Goal
73' GOAL! 1-1, Neves equalises for Wolves! Semedo feeds Neto down the right and he fires in a cross to the edge of the six-yard box, where Neves does really well to twist backwards and direct a header into the bottom-left corner. Dubravka gets a touch but he can't keep it out.
73' Newcastle put an attack together for the first time in a while. It looks to have fallen apart as Shelvey pings a pass high to Joelinton but he controls it really well and fires goalwards, but Patricio is right behind it.
M. Ritchie
E. Krafth
72' Krafth's Traore-induced nightmare is over, and he's through it without conceding a goal despite his struggles. Ritchie comes on.
70' The first half was quite entertaining, and the second started at a good pace. It has been poor since the goal, though. Wolves' attacks are disjointed and Newcastle don't look bothered about getting a second.
68' Moutinho and Clark both go down with a touch of cramp, so everybody else gets 30 seconds to catch their breath.
66' Wolves look to have remembered the tactic which brought them some joy in the first half - give the ball to Traore and let him run. He does so again down the left, bursting away from Krafth and scuffing a cross into the area. Neto and Willian Jose seem to get in each other's way and the latter's heavy touch sees the chance go begging.
64' Neves slips a ball in behind for Semedo, who has acres of space at the right side of the penalty area. It looks as though he can't decide whether to fizz in a low cross or float it in, and his eventual effort is miles away from anyone. You'd want a bit more for a £37m signing from Barcelona.
J. Murphy
A. Saint-Maximin
63' Saint-Maximin can't carry on. He's replaced by Murphy.
61' More injury worry for Newcastle. Saint-Maximin, their best player tonight, looks like he'll be going off. He limps to the touchline after receiving some treatment on the pitch, and looks to be holding the front of his left thigh.
60' Willian Jose has been horribly isolated tonight, Wolves just haven't managed to get him on the ball. After an hour, he has completed seven passes. That's the same number as goalkeeper Patricio, and no player who started the game has managed fewer.
59' Wolves are lacking a bit of fluency in attack. Jonny ignores Neto on the overlap on the left but sprays in an awkward ball to Neves at the edge of the area, and he can't thread it through to an attacker.
57' We haven't seen a lot of Semedo on the ball so far. He gets the ball midway inside the Newcastle half on the left but seems reluctant to carry it forwards, passing it back to Neto who in turn goes back to Dendoncker.
55' Saiss fouls Willock and Newcastle get a free-kick over by the right touchline, roughly in line with the edge of the area. Fraser pulls a low ball across to Shelvey who drops back and shoots first time, but he gets under it and fizzes his effort over the bar. Nice idea.
53' It's a first Premier League goal since October 2019 for Lascelles. His last strike also came at home to Wolves, in a match which finished 1-1.
R. Fraser
Assist
52' Fraser gets an assist seven minutes after coming on, with a pinpoint cross to Lascelles.
J. Lascelles
Goal
52' GOAL! Newcastle lead 1-0, it's the captain Lascelles! Wolves just can't get the ball away after a corner, and eventually Fraser picks it up in space on the right. He fires in an excellent cross to the edge of the six-yard box, and Lascelles nods it perfectly down into the bottom-right corner.
50' Already, both teams are looking more open than they did in the first half. Traore finds Neves at the edge of the area and he sets himself with a lovely drag-back, but he hits a wild shot well over the crossbar.
49' Joelinton finds some space on the right and pulls the ball back for Fraser, whose low shot is blocked. There's a quick VAR check as the ball did bounce up off Coady's boot onto his hand in the area, but there was nothing at all he could have done about it.
48' Krafth is getting nowhere near Traore tonight. Again, the Wolves winger skips inside him but this time instead of finding a team-mate, he shoots straight into a crowd of players at the edge of the box. Not the right option.
47' Fraser gets the ball on the right for the first time but he can't get away from Jonny, and the Wolves man wins a throw-in.
45' We're back underway.
R. Fraser
M. Almirón
45' Newcastle are making a change at the break. Almiron had an issue with his knee earlier in the game, and he's replaced by Fraser.
Both teams have played well enough at times that the managers may be happy to start the second half unchanged. In Gayle, Carroll, Fraser and Murphy, it's the hosts who look to have more attacking options on the bench.
It hasn't been a bad game, this. Newcastle started well on top, with Almiron hitting the post early on and Saint-Maximin having a goal ruled out for offside, and it's Saint-Maximin and Traore who have been the stars of the show so far. Wolves went closest as Traore had a close-range header saved, while the Spaniard also teed up Neto to fire wide from close range. The visitors finished the half strongly but neither goalkeeper has had a challenging save to make so far.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: NEWCASTLE 0-0 WOLVES
45' + 2' Traore has a shot from range but he scuffs his shot wide to the left of goal. That might be it for the first half.
45' + 1' Neto gets into the area from the right and drills a perfect low ball across the face of goal, but nobody can get a touch to turn it home. Neto couldn't have done any more there.
45' Two minutes added on.
44' Moutinho tees up Neto with a back-heel from the free-kick, but his low effort is straight at Dubravka. In a decent central position and with Neto, Moutinho and Neves standing over it, you might have expected better from that.
44' Newcastle's best moments have come through Saint-Maximin and Wolves' best moments have come through Traore. Two of the Premier League's most livewire performers are living up to their billing tonight.
C. Clark
Yellow Card
43' Clark is booked for a foul on Traore, who was driving at the last line of defence.
41' Traore breezes away from Willock on the left and gets into the box once again. He chips a cross to Neto at the far post and he miscues a volley wide, when he might have been better off knocking it back across goal for a team-mate.
40' After a spell of Wolves dominance, Newcastle are looking to finish the half on the front foot. They're passing it around nicely but without quite the same penetration they had in the early stages.
38' Neto fires in a free-kick from the left which Saiss and Neves go up for at the far post. Both players appeal for handball as the ball cannons off the back of Clark's arm, but it would be an incredibly harsh penalty. But these days, you never know...
36' Neto shows a delightful touch in midfield as he looks to play a one-two with Willian Jose, but once again the forward looks sluggish and can't find the return pass. Wolves' January signing hasn't looked up to speed so far tonight.
35' Better from Wolves. Traore skips away from Krafth by the left touchline and buzzes infield. He gets into the area and tees up Neto, but he sidefoots wide of the left post.
34' Wolves look to have found a huge gap in behind Krafth but Neto and Jonny get in each other's way and the chance fizzles out.
32' Neto finds Neves by the right corner of the penalty area and he loops in a high cross to the far post where Traore is lurking. He gets a low header on target which Dubravka has to turn behind, but the resulting corner is easily cleared.
30' It has been a really positive first half an hour from Newcastle. They've had eight shots, two of which were on target - plus one off the post and a disallowed goal from Saint-Maximin. Wolves have only had two shots and neither was on target.
29' Here's a worry for Newcastle. Almiron has gone down holding his right knee, and the physios are coming on.
28' Wolves have a chance to break but Willian Jose takes far too long on the ball in the centre circle and Lascelles comes out to tackle him. In an instant, Saint-Maximin has the ball at the edge of the area once again but he can't quite find room for a shot, and Almiron's effort is blocked.
26' Wolves really seem to be struggling with the numbers in midfield, Newcastle always seem to have a man free. Saint-Maximin does really well with another dribble infield from the left. This time he tries his luck from range but mis-hits his shot and it flies well wide.
24' GOOAA-no! Offside! It's brilliant from Saint-Maximin, the Frenchman ripping through the Wolves defence down the left. He tees up Willock whose shot is saved by Patricio into the path of Saint-Maximin, but he's well offside as he turns in the rebound.
23' Hayden has joined Hector Bellerin and Conor Gallagher on eight yellow cards - the most in the Premier League this season. Naughty boy.
22' Saint-Maximin teases Dendoncker with the ball at the left corner of the area, jinking one way and then the other. Eventually Hayden comes in and hits a shot straight into his team-mate. The ball comes to Joelinton and he tries to curl one from the edge of the area, but it's too close to Patricio who takes it on the bounce.
21' Wolves have gotten a foothold in the game in the last 10 minutes. The possession stats are looking much more even, though the hosts still look slicker on the ball. Krafth picks it up on the right and has a dig from range, but his low effort is easily saved by Patricio.
I. Hayden
Yellow Card
19' Hayden is back on his feet and he's almost immediately booked for a foul on Traore, who was looking to motor through the centre.
17' The physios are coming on to have a look at Hayden, who is down in midfield. It looks as though he was stood on by Neves as he tackled the Wolves man.
16' Traore crosses from the left and while it's overhit, Neto picks it up on the farside of the penalty area. Newcastle struggle to clear their lines and eventually the ball sits up nicely for Neves to hit on the half-volley from range. Unsurprisingly, he accepts the invitation but cuts across the ball and it flies high and wide.
14' Patricio collides with Joelinton as the pair go up for a high ball at the edge of the six-yard box. No foul is given, but Wolves get the ball away.
13' Newcastle have been much the better side in the opening stages. They have had 77% of possession so far and could probably have scored twice. Wolves have hardly had a kick.
12' Off the post! Shelvey finds Almiron in behind with an excellent first-time pass on the swivel from the halfway line. Almiron drives infield from the right and looks to curl a left-footed effort around Patricio, but he finds the foot of the far post and it bounces away.
10' Saint-Maximin and Willock hold onto the ball at the left side of the penalty area but can't find room to cross. It's worked all the way round to the other side before Joelinton almost finds space to shoot but can't get an effort away. Newcastle are keeping the ball well but they're having to be patient.
8' Moutinho is hobbling a little after taking a whack in midfield. It looked like a hit rather than a muscle injury, so he should run it off.
7' Lewis crosses from the left but Dendoncker gets across to head clear before it can reach the danger zone.
6' Shelvey punts a long ball forward. It's nowhere near a Newcastle player but Patricio hesitates to come out as the ball spins out towards the left touchline. He eventually clears straight out for a throw-in, but Wolves win possession back quickly.
5' Almiron beats Jonny over on the right and wins a foul from the Wolves wing-back. Shelvey delivers the free-kick from close to the corner flag, short to Willock who picks out Hayden - but he heads straight at Patricio. That was a chance.
4' Traore holds off a defender in midfield and flicks the ball over the top of the Newcastle defence for Jonny to chase, but he takes a very heavy first touch and Krafth is able to recover.
3' Dendoncker shepherds the ball out of play for a goal kick by the corner flag under pressure from Joelinton.
2' Saint-Maximin wins an early free-kick out on the wing, Dendoncker with the foul.
1' We're off!
The teams are on their way out and we’re moments away from kick-off.
Of all the Premier League fixtures to have been played at least 10 times, Newcastle v Wolves has the highest draw ratio – 73% of their games have finished all square. Interestingly, in the 11 Premier League games between these two, neither side has ever kept a clean sheet. Score draw, anyone?
Newcastle are unchanged outfield from their 3-1 defeat at Manchester United last time out, but Dubravka replaces Darlow in net. Wolves beat Leeds 1-0 in their last game and they keep the same side.
SUBS: Morgan Gibbs-White, Owen Otasowie, John Ruddy, Ki-Jana Hoever, Vitinha, Fabio Silva, Max Kilman, Rayan Ait Nouri.
