UEFA Europa League

That's all for now though, goodbye!
The result means that Newcastle stretch the gap between themselves and the relegation zone to 11 points, while Southampton remain in 12th.
Nine-man Newcastle cling onto a priceless win over Southampton. This was a thrilling, end-to-end game throughout and Newcastle quickly took advantage to secure a commanding early lead. First, Willock tapped in a debut goal after brilliant work from Saint-Maximin, before Almiron's deflected effort doubled their lead. Minamino pulled one back for Southampton with a tremendous run and finish, only for Almiron to restore the two goal advantage before the interval. The second half swung decisively in the away side's favour though: Ward-Prowse immediately whipped in a brilliant free-kick and Hendrick's red card gave them real hope. However, Newcastle defended bravely and even after they went down to nine men, when Schar was stretchered off, they held on to claim a huge three points.
90' + 6' FULL TIME: Newcastle United 3-2 Southampton
K. Darlow
Yellow Card
90' + 5' Yellow Card Karl Darlow
90' + 4' Southampton are still hurling everything at Newcastle as we approach the final 90 seconds.
90' + 3' Huge chance for Vestergaard! Newcastle struggle to clear their lines following a drilled cross from Bertrand, and it eventually falls to Vestergaard who blasts his shot well over the bar from five yards!
90' + 1' Six minutes of stoppage time are added on as Southampton continue to throw everything at Newcastle.
89' Off the line by Hayden! Vestergaard - who's now playing as a striker - beats Darlow to a high ball and knocks it down to Ings, who volleys it at goal only for Hayden to heroically block it off the line!
88' Every outfielder for the hosts is playing as a defender now, as nine-man Newcastle desperately try and cling onto this win.
87' Another Ward-Prowse corner is bravely cleared by Hayden.
86' Vestergaard angles a dangerous cross into the box from deep, but it's superbly glanced away from harm by Dummett.
85' Adams slams a speculative shot from 25 yards high and wide.
83' So it's 11 against nine now and Newcastle will be delighted if they can cling onto their slender lead with such a disadvantage.
D. Nlundulu
J. Stephens
81' Southampton quickly respond to their increased numerical advantage: the attacker N'Lundulu comes on for the defender Stephens.
79' Schar is stretchered off and - as Newcastle have used up all of their three opportunities to make substitutions - they are down to nine men.
77' Schar's now clutching his knee and looks to be in a lot of pain after having a shot blocked. This injury looks serious and there'll be a lengthy delay.
75' Schar curls the resulting free-kick into the wall.
J. Bednarek
Yellow Card
73' Bednarek is booked after halting Almiron's surging run on the edge of the box. VAR checks for a red card, but decides to stick with the more lenient punishment.
72' There's been torrential rain throughout the second half, and both teams are struggling to move the ball around on the saturated turf.
71' Bertrand makes a strong run on the overlap, before whipping a cross in front of Adams that Darlow bravely claims.
69' Southampton are piling the pressure on Newcastle right now, but they haven't been able to find the equaliser so far.
P. Dummett
A. Saint-Maximin
67' Newcastle attempt to solidify their defence by replacing Saint-Maximin with Dummett.
65' Redmond's shot deflects into the path of Ings, before Adams stabs it into the net! However, Ings was offside during the build-up and the linesman raises his flag for offside.
63' Ings hits the inside of the post! Redmond scurries down the wing before sliding it into Ings, who hits a curling, first-time effort across goal that spins against the post and into the arms of a relieved Darlow!
61' Southampton have enjoyed 74 per cent possession so far in the second half, as they look to mount the pressure on Newcastle and force an equaliser.
58' Ings advances into a dangerous position down the left flank, before wastefully slicing his cross into the side-netting.
56' Newcastle have been rocked by Southampton's pressure at the start of the second half, and holding onto their lead looks like an incredibly difficult task right now.
54' Brilliant save from Darlow! Vestergaard powers a header across goal from a corner, but Darlow acrobatically tips it away to safety!
52' Southampton will be delighted with this start to the half! After Ward-Prowse's stunning free-kick, they've followed it up by forcing Hendrick into a cynical foul to earn himself a red card!
49' Hendrick is sent off! The midfielder is already on a yellow card and he stops a counter-attack by pulling back Minamino to earn a second booking - and a red card!
J. Ward-Prowse
48' WARD-PROWSE! 3-2! It's a stunning strike from the midfielder! Southampton win a free-kick 30 yards out and Ward-Prowse steps up and bends it brilliantly over the wall and past Darlow into the top corner!
47' Huge chance for Shelvey! Willock slaloms towards the byline, before pulling it back to Shelvey who scuffs his shot well wide from eight yards!
46' Newcastle get the second half underway.
Southampton aren't out of this yet though - it's been an open game and they'll be hoping to overturn this two goal deficit quickly.
Newcastle take a commanding lead into the break after a slick attacking performance. The hosts have been criticised for their defensive approach this season, but they've been aggressive throughout, taking the lead early on when Willock finished off Saint-Maximin's brilliant run. And they doubled their lead when Almiron's devious cross deflected beyond McCarthy. Southampton have shown plenty of heart though and cause plenty of problems, pulling a goal back through a fine Minamino finish. However, deep into stoppage time a mistake from Bertrand and McCarthy allowed Almiron through to make it 3-1.
45' + 5' HALF TIME: Newcastle United 3-1 Southampton
M. Almirón
45' + 4' ALMIRON AGAIN! 3-1! Almiron tackles Bertrand after a nervous pass from McCarthy and he races towards the edge of the box, before sliding a low shot beyond the goalkeeper!
E. Krafth
Yellow Card
45' + 3' Krafth is booked for a raking challenge on Bertrand to stop a counter.
45' + 3' Vestergaard nods Ward-Prowse's corner across goal but Newcastle scramble to clear.
45' + 1' Four minutes of stoppage time are added on.
44' Ward-Prowse works a clever free kick short to Redmond on the edge of the box, but he curls his shot well over the bar.
42' Wilson's injury could derail this promising attacking performance from Newcastle: he's been directly involved in 15 Premier League goals in his first 20 appearances for the Magpies (10 goals, 5 assists).
40' After a frantic opening half-hour, the game's finally slowed down as we approach half time.
38' Willock wriggles past Stephens and hits a shot from an extremely tight angle that McCarthy parries safely away.
C. Wilson
36' Wilson can't run off the muscle injury and he's replaced up top by Joelinton.
36' Both attacks have looked potent so far today: Newcastle have put together three shots inside the box, while Southampton have managed four.
34' Wilson is down and receiving treatment, but he should be okay to continue.
32' That's the ideal response from Southampton! After conceding two early goals they could easily have crumbled, but Minamino's strike has offered them a platform to get back into the game.
R. Bertrand
30' It was a neat pass from Bertrand into Minamino on the edge of the box, but surely even he didn't expect that run and finish!
T. Minamino
30' MINAMINO! 2-1! Southampton pull one back with a brilliant strike! Minamino spins past Hayden on the edge of the box, before lashing a fierce shot over Darlow and into the roof of the net from a tight angle!
28' Well, this is a deeply worrying start for Southampton. Despite conceding first, they were beginning to work their way back into the game, but after conceding this soft own goal even a draw seems remote now.
A. Saint-Maximin
26' Saint-Maximin gets his second assist off the game after collecting another long pass, before laying it off to Almiron to deliver the key cross into the box!
M. Almirón
26' ALMIRON! 2-0 NEWCASTLE! Saint-Maximin collects another long ball, before laying it off to Almiron, whose vicious cross flicks off Bednarek and into the net!
25' Big save from Darlow! Adams slips Ings in behind Hayden and the striker races through, before slamming a powerful shot straight at Darlow from a tight angle!
E. Krafth
Javi Manquillo
24' The injured Manquillo is replaced in defence by Krafth.
22' There's a delay as Manquillo receives treatment for a leg injury, and it looks unlikely that he'll be able to continue as he slowly trudges off the pitch.
20' Newcastle will be really pleased with this start. They've looked incisive in attack and they've managed to put Southampton under plenty of pressure by playing on the front foot - the key, of course, will be to maintain this.
18' Newcastle have a chance to double their lead immediately as Willock breaks away down the right flank, but his cross to Wilson is cut out by Bednarek,
A. Saint-Maximin
16' Willock marks his debut with a goal, after a sensational run and assist from Saint-Maximin, who roared past Stephens before showing the composure to set up the Arsenal loanee.
J. Willock
16' WILLOCK! 1-0 NEWCASTLE! Saint-Maximin plucks a long pass out the air, before driving past Stephens and squaring it across to Willock who slots a simple finish beyond McCarthy from six yards!
14' Newcastle have looked the more threatening side so far, but Southampton will be pleased to have put together a solid start to the game following their defeat in the week.
12' Willock cuts out a loose pass from Vestergaard, but Newcastle can't capitalise as the attacker's switch is headed clear by Stephens.
J. Hendrick
Yellow Card
11' Hendrick is booked after sliding into Minamino from behind. He may have made contact with the ball, but he caught the attacker as well and deserved a yellow card.
9' Wilson has it in the net after latching onto an incisive threaded pass from Shelvey, but the linesman immediately raises his flag for offside.
7' Southampton struggle to clear a cross from Manquillo, allowing Wilson to hit a tame half-volley straight at McCarthy from 12 yards.
5' Saint-Maximin skips past Vestergaard and races to the byline, before cutting it back towards Almiron who can't quite get a shot away, allowing Southampton to clear.
4' Interestingly, both sides are giving a debut to a new attacker today. For Newcastle, it's Willock on loan from Arsenal, who's operating in an attacking midfield role. Meanwhile, Southampton have moved Liverpool loanee, Minamino, into a role on the left wing.
2' Southampton quickly settle into the game with a long spell of possession.
1' Southampton get the first half underway.
The players are emerging from the tunnel and kick off is just seconds away!
This could be the ideal fixture for Southampton to respond to their heavy defeat - Newcastle have lost six Premier League matches in 2021, at least two more than any other club.
Southampton, meanwhile, make four changes: Ramsey and the suspended Jankewitz are replaced by Vestergaard and Romeu. Redmond and new signing, Minamino, also replace Djenepo and Armstrong in attack.
Newcastle make three changes to the side that lost to Crystal Palace last time out, as they shift into a more attacking 4-2-3-1 formation: Hayden and Saint-Maximin both come into the starting lineup, while Willock joins them to make his debut after joining on loan from Arsenal.
SUBS: Daniel N'Lundulu, Kgagelo Chauke, Ryan Finnigan, Moussa Djenepo, Fraser Forster, Mohammed Salisu, Kayne Ramsay, Nathan Tella, Caleb Watts.
