United march on to the next round of the Europa League thanks to this resounding 5-1 win. It wasn't plain-sailing for the whole time, as Midtjylland took the lead, but the hosts rallied and ultimately produced a brilliant performance, with Rashford's debut brace sure to please the fans and Depay starring with a fine individual display. Much, much better from United, who looked to be playing with freedom and confidence today, even when things weren't going their way.
R. Poole
Ander Herrera
Final change for United, as 17-year-old Regan Poole replaces Herrera.
M. Depay
GOAL!!!! UNITED GET A FIFTH! Depay does brilliantly yet again, as he comes in off the right and hammers an effort into the bottom-left corner. He's deserved that.
RED CARD! It's been a miserable night for Romer. Terrorised by Depay and now he is given his second yellow card for a cynical tug on the Dutchman.
Ander Herrera
Penalty Goal
GOAL!!! THAT'S HOW TO TAKE A PENALTY! Herrera steps up and shows compatriot Mata how you do it, slamming his spot-kick into the top-left corner. United are going through to the next round.
K. Hansen
Yellow Card
PENALTY TO UNITED! Hansen handles the ball when getting in the way of Depay's shot and the referee immediately points to the spot.
Andreas Pereira
J. Lingard
Another switch for United now, as Lingard makes way for the exciting Pereira, who had an impressive cameo against Shrewsbury on Monday.
Good play by Herrera, as he links with Varela, lets the ball run across his body and then draws Sparv into a foul. They don't look in a rush to hook it into the area, though.
United have done well to keep Midtjlland at bay on the break in the second half so far. The visitors have not had much of a sniff since the break and Sisto has been particularly quiet.
Sensational feet from Depay! The Dutchman produces a stepover and then flicks the ball through Romer's legs to Mata all in one movement. Brilliant play, but Midtjylland survive as Mata's cross is cleared.
M. Pusic
K. Olsson
Olsson has caught the eye on occasion today, but his outing has come to an end as he is replaced by Pusic.
M. Rojo
J. Riley
Standing ovation for Riley, who has had a solid game at left-back. On comes Rojo for his comeback.
What an evening this is turning out to be for Marcus Rashford. A two-goal debut would have been beyond his wildest dreams last night, but he is certainly making the most of his chance.
G. Varela
Excellent play by the right-back Varela, as he gets a cross into the area after a good interchange with Mata.
M. Rashford
GOAL!!!! IT'S RASHFORD AGAIN! Wonderful move from United, as Varela plays a one-two with Mata, who picks out an excellent return pass. The right-back shows composure to halt and then cross to the back post, where the debutant is arriving to smash home.
DEFLECTED! United play the corner short and Depay finds himself in possession. He cuts in onto his right foot and lets fly, but it smacks against a defender and does behind again.
Good play by Riley, as the left-back gets forward and wins a corner from Romer. This is good pressue from United.
J. Lingard
Yellow Card
NO PENALTY! Lingard bursts on to a loose ball just inside the area and goes down under a challenge from Hansen, with United appealing for a spot-kick, but the referee books the midfielder for diving and that appears to be a good decision.
GREAT PLAY! Depay causes havoc in the area for United, as he twists and turns his way through. He turns Hansen inside-out and then leaves him on his backside, before trying to scoop an effort beyond Andersen, but the goalkeeper makes the save.
V. Kadlec
R. Hassan
Another switch for Midtjylland, as Kadlec replaces Hassan, who has done very little.
Rashford is back on the case once again, as he is played forward. He then tricks his way away from Novak and then darts towards the goal-line before seeing his cross cut out.
Mata shows excellent anticipation to latch on to Varela's cross and turn the ball back into the danger zone, putting it on a plate for Rashford.
M. Rashford
GOAL!!!! IT'S A DREAM GOAL FOR RASHFORD! Varela's cross causes havoc and isn't dealt with. Mata manages to keep it in play, cutting it back into the danger zone and the young striker is there to smash home from close range!
Midtjylland sense the chance for another counter-attack here, as Onuachu manages to pick up possession on the right. He is surrounded by three men so just has to hold on to the ball and he is eventually barged over by Blind. Romero punches clear the resulting free-kick delivery, though.
Romer is again at the centre of things, as he makes an interception and then gives the ball away almost immediately. Herrera swiftly finds Depay, who gets a shot away which is blocked well by Hansen.
Mata and Sparv appear to have had a falling out off the ball and the referee is forced to intervene. It seems to be something of nothing, though, and the man in the middle just tells them to get on with it.
Good play again by the visitors, as they make ground up the right, with Sisto holding play up and feeding Olsson, whose forward pass is deflected behind for a corner. The resulting set-piece comes to nothing, though.
United may well be on the front foot again, but Midtjylland are seeing plenty of the ball at the moment and looking very bright on the break. This is by no means a foregone conclusion.
UNITED SURVIVE! Midtjylland catch the hosts on the break, with Olsson finding Poulsen up the right. He takes his time and clips a fine cross into the danger zone for Sisto, who'd peeled off Carrick, but Romero gets his fingertips to it.
MIDTJYLLAND ESCAPE! Brilliant play by Depay! The winger turns Romer inside-out yet again and then digs a left-footed cross out to the back post. Herrera looks destined to nod in, but he can only find the side-netting. That was on a plate!
WHAT A MISS! Lingard does well to bring the ball out of the air and he then moves out to the right. He clips a cross into the danger zone and Schneiderlin looks destined to slot past Andersen, but his close-range effort is off target.
P. Onuachu
M. Ureña
Off we go for the second half. There was one change at the break, with Urena replaced by Onuachu. The striker really caused United problems last week and got the winner.
The referee ends the first half with the scores level. The first 45 minutes have flown by! United have been on top throughout but they found themselves behind for a brief moment, as Sisto gave the visitors the lead in style. A Depay-inspired Bodurov own-goal shortly after put the home side back in touch and they should have gone level on aggregate just before the break as Mata saw his penalty saved. United have certainly shown enough to suggest they can settle this, but Midtjylland look a threat on the break.
There will be a minute added on here.
Penalty Miss
Mata steps up to the penalty and plays a composed effort to his left, but Andersen is equal to it, pushing it away well to halt the danger. What a waste for United!
M. Andersen
Penalty Save
SAVED!!! Andersen gets down to his right and palms Mata's penalty away! Still United trail on aggregate!
A. Rømer
Yellow Card
PENALTY TO UNITED! Terrible tackle from Romer, as the defender produces a wild tackle on Herrera just inside the area and the referee points to the spot!
Depay is released up the left again and he darts forward towards Romer. The right-back has little answer to him, but the Dutchman's attempted pass is cut out and it goes for a corner.
JUST WIDE! Rashford does well to win a free-kick out wide and from the resulting set-piece Depay's cross causes problems. Bodurov manages to hook it away but Schneiderlin meets that clearance with an overhead kick which just misses the target.
Excellent play by Depay again. Herrera's cross from the right lands at the feet of the Dutchman, who looks to volley and then heads for the goal-line. He shapes to cross, halts and then turns and crosses in one movement. No one is there to knock it into the net, though.
F. Novák
Yellow Card
Out comes the yellow card, as Novak is caught in possession by Lingard and the left-back then cynically hauls him down.
United really needed that swift response. It came as little surprise to see that goal come from Depay, who has been bright so far, but they are still 3-2 behind on aggregate.
N. Bodurov
Own Goal
GOAL!!!! UNITED ARE LEVEL! Varela charges infield and picks out a pass to Mata on the edge of the area. He in turn finds Depay to his left, who eases past Romer and plays the ball across the face of goal, forcing Bodurov to put past his own goalkeeper.
SAVED! United's crossing isn't working at the moment, as Varela's delivery is easily headed out. But Schneiderlin mops it up and plays a clever pass into the left side of the area. Depay is waiting and hits it first-time, but Andersen deals with it easily.
United are straight back on the front foot and probing up the left wing. They have the pressure, but they are not playing with much direction and now they look really rattled by that goal.
M. Ureña
Good awareness from Urena, as the Costa Rican picks out Sisto on the edge of the area and the winger does the business.
P. Sisto
GOAL!!!! UNITED ARE BEHIND AND WHAT A GOAL! Sisto was the scourge of the Red Devils last week and he puts a dagger to their chances once again! The winger receives a pass on the edge of the area, produces a clever turn to beat Blind, skips past a poor challenge from Carrick and then slots past Romero.
For all of United's possession and pressure, Midtjylland are doing well here. The visitors haven't been tested too regularly so far and look really composed taking the ball out from the back.
Another lovely move by United, as Mata passes forward to Rashford, who produces a clever little back-heel right back into the Spaniard's path. He then tries to get the ball into the danger zone, only for it to fall to Novak. The left-back's clearance is blocked by Lingard and it almost ricochets off the midfielder and into the Midtjylland goal. It goes just wide, though.
United are well on top here. Lingard does well on the right after being fed by Varela, skipping past one challenge and then getting a cross into the area. His delivery takes a deflection which helps it towards goal, but Andersen is equal to it.
Excellent play by Varela, who has started off really well. He glides past an opponent and leaves him on his backside, with the Uruguayan's change of pace just too sudden for Urena. He darts forward and clips a decent lofted pass into the area for Rashford, but it is just a little behind the striker.
Just over! United take the corner and Depay is given plenty of space out wide. He cuts inside and whips a teasing cross in. It takes a big deflection off a United player and misses, but it wasn't that far off.
DENIED! Brilliant play by Rashford, as the striker takes up possession on the edge of the area, produces a stepover to skip past one defender and he then goes for goal, forcing a good save from Andersen. Corner to United.
United have been very snappy in the tackle so far and are proving far quicker to loose balls, particularly in midfield, as Mata steals possession back just inside his half.
Rashford is getting stuck in out there at the moment. He goes in for a 50/50 challenge with Bodurov and then robs the defender with some excellent harrying. He tries to burst past him down the outside, but just about runs it out of play.
Schneiderlin tests the Midtjylland defence as he produces a driving run in from the left. He marches past a couple of defenders and then manages to leave the ball for Rashford. The striker shapes to shoot, buys some extra space and then gets a shot away, only for a series of ricochets to take the sting out of it.
Depay is seeing plenty of the ball during these early stages. This time he goes down the outside of Romer but he tries to cross right-footed and his delivery is easily cut out. United get themselves a corner as a result, though it doesn't come to much.
Midtjylland certainly don't look overawed by their surroundings or the fixture so far. Hansen brings the ball out from the back to good effect, gliding across the ground and then spreading play out to the right. Romer's pass forward to Sisto doesn't meet its mark, though.
Good play by Mata, as he latches on to a loose ball and deceives Hansen with a clever touch in midfield, drawing the Dane into a foul about 45 yards from goal.
Lovely footwork from Depay. There is a hum of expectation around the stadium as the winger gets on the ball, darts forward and then cuts inside Hassan. He then jinks past another tackle before seeing an effort blocked.
United certainly haven't started this match in any kind of a rush or panic, as they stroke the ball around with composure in the middle. Early signs are that Varela is going to be pushing well up the right flank and Midtjylland themselves are already pressing very high and from the front.
Off we go! Rashford and Herrera get things under way for United.
The players are out on the pitch now, with kick-off just a few moments away.
CONFIRMED: Martial is not starting for United, with Rashford named in his absence. A huge blow for United and Van Gaal, but what a chance for the teenager.
Van Gaal could have further injury worries to contend with. Martial is not taking part in their warm-up and Rashford has been since filling in for him among the first-team attackers during their pre-match drills. Stay tuned for confirmation either way once things are clear.
The defeat in Denmark brought on even more intense criticism of Van Gaal and many were calling for him to be dismissed. He survived and then United produced a better, more cohesive display at Shrewsbury. However, how much can be read into that performance at a relegation-threatened League One club is open to debate - today's game proves to be a more serious test, particularly considering Midtjylland's performance last week. Should the hosts fail, Van Gaal will once again be open to ridicule, but would it actually cost him his job? The jury is out on that one.
United's bench once again looks virtually unrecognisable. As with Monday's FA Cup clash with Shrewsbury, several youngsters are named in the matchday squad. Joel Pereira is the goalkeeper in reserve today, while Paddy McNair, Donald Love, Regan Poole and Marcus Rashford also take up places on the bench. Marcos Rojo is also there and could make his return after a couple of months out with a dislocated shoulder, while Andreas Pereira will be eager for another cameo after catching the eye against the Shrews.
Few will need reminding of United's troubles in Denmark a week ago, as they ultimately suffered a shock 2-1 defeat despite going ahead and it could have been a whole lot worse. Van Gaal's squad has been decimated by injuries of late and that outing certainly had a starting line-up which was by no means familiar, and their squad today also contains a host of younger players. The coach's first XI sees Guillermo Varela continue at right-back, but Michael Carrick fills in as a makeshift centre-half and Joe Riley makes his first start for the club on the left. There are few surprises further up the pitch, though. Anthony Martial leads the line and will be supported by Memphis Depay, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata.
Midtjylland subs: Dahlin, Royer, Kadlec, Pusic, Onuachu, Banggaard, Nielsen.
Midtjylland starting XI (4-2-3-1): Andersen; Romer, Hansen, Bodurov, Novak; Sparv, Poulsen; Olsson, Hassan, Sisto; Urena.
Man United subs: Joel Pereira, McNair, Love, Rojo, Poole, Andreas Pereira, Rashford.
Manchester United starting XI (4-2-3-1): S. Romero; Varela, Carrick, Blind, Riley; Schneiderlin, Ander Herrera; Lingard, Mata, Memphis; Martial.
Hello and welcome to the LIVE coverage of the second leg of this Europa League first knockout round tie between Manchester United and Midtjylland. The Danish champions head to Old Trafford today looking to keep their 2-1 first-leg lead intact, while the beleaguered hosts hope to stage a comeback and avoid another embarrassment. Louis van Gaal's men are already under huge pressure - can the visitors capitalise on that or will the Premier League giants rally? Kick-off is just 30 minutes away!
