Manchester City ease their way to a 2-0 win over Manchester United in their Premier League clash at Old Trafford. An own goal from Eric Bailly put the visitors ahead in the early stages of the contest before Bernardo Silva added a second on the stroke of half-time. City could have added to the scoreline, but were denied by David de Gea and the post when Phil Foden clipped an effort off the frame. City are back on track and move two points behind Chelsea at the top of the table.

United were booed off the pitch at half-time by their fans. It has been a similar story to their game against Liverpool, albeit quite not the thrashing yet. It will take a special effort from the Red Devils in the second half to avoid another painful loss.

However, the Spaniard made a sloppy mistake just before half-time to allow Bernardo Silva to find the net.

The Portuguese coasts in at the back post to latch on to Cancelo's cross and pokes it through De Gea and into the bottom-right corner. The Spaniard has been excellent in the first half, but he allows a tame effort from the Portuguese to slip through his grasp into the net. It is a huge moment in the game.

44' Foden launches a cross into the box from the left flank that is cleared. Cancelo makes a rare mistake to gift possession to Ronaldo, but he lacks support and Silva gets back to make an interception.

42' City press down the left flank and win a corner as Lindelof diverts the ball behind from a Foden delivery.

40' OFFSIDE! Ronaldo latches on to a throughball from Wan-Bissaka in the right-inside channel. The Portuguese fires low and hard towards goal, but is denied by Ederson. However, the offside flag was raised beforehand anyway.

38' Although United have barely laid a glove on City in the first half, there is hope as long as the scoreline remains 1-0 to force their way back into the contest.

36' It has been a pure domination from City in the opening 36 minutes bar one shot from Ronaldo. Guardiola will be wondering how his team are not further ahead.

35' BLOCK! Cancelo takes on another strike at goal and connects with a crisp strike that travels through a crowd. De Gea parries the effort out into the middle of the box, but Lindelof is first to it to clear the danger.

34' CHANCE! Jesus feeds De Bruyne in the right-inside channel and he connects with an effort on the outside of his right foot. It swerves towards goal, but De Gea is alert to push it past the left post. The Spaniard is the only thing stopping the visitors at the moment.

33' SAVE! Lindelof nearly notches a second own goal for United today. The Swede diverts a low cross from Foden towards his own net, but De Gea reacts to stop a City second with his boot.

30' Cancelo latches on to a corner from De Bruyne on the right and takes on the first-time volley, only to launch his attempt into the stand behind De Gea's goal.

29' CHANCE! De Bruyne works the ball to Cancelo on the edge of the box and he takes a touch before rifling a left-footed strike at goal. De Gea sees it late and has to stick out a hand to push it over the bar.

29' SAVE! CITY SHOULD DOUBLE THEIR LEAD! Foden is released down the left flank and cuts the ball back to De Bruyne. The Belgian sees his shot blocked by Shaw, but the rebound falls to Jesus. He turns to fire at goal, only to be denied by a fine save from De Gea turning the ball over the bar.

26' SAVE! Shaw clips a dangerous cross into the box where Ronaldo swivels to fire on his left foot on the volley. His effort travels towards goal at pace, but is beaten away by a sharp save from Ederson. Better from the hosts.

25' United finally advance into the City half and press down the right flank through Wan-Bissaka, but he sees his delivey charged down by De Bruyne.

22' Cancelo breaks away down the left flank and sees his low ball deflected into the path of De Bruyne. The Belgian blasts a low ball across the face that Lindelof has to block behind.

21' Fernandes tries to release Ronaldo over the top, but the Portuguese moves too soon and is caught offside. He boots the ball back to City with his frustration evident.

20' City's press is containing the home side. There's no way through for United at the moment as they are encamped in their own half.

18' Silva and De Bruyne combine on the edge of the box, but the final pass from the Belgian just evades the run of Foden.

16' Bailly rises to clear the resulting free-kick from De Bruyne, but the blue waves keep coming forward. Lindelof makes a mistake with his offload towards Wan-Bissaka that Foden almost intercepts, but the ball just does not fall for the England man.

He puts in a precise delivery that Bailly steers into the United goal. A nightmare for the Ivorian.

Manchester United are unbeaten in their last four league games against Man City (W3 D1), their longest such run against them since a run of six between 2008 and 2011.

City have also made three changes to their side that beat Club Brugge during the week. Laporte is suspended after his dismissal last week and is replaced by Dias. Grealish and Mahrez drop to the bench in the final third, which sees De Bruyne and Jesus start.

City bounced back during the week with a 4-1 hammering of Club Brugge, but Guardiola will insist that his players must be at the peak of their powers at Old Trafford even with United's issues given their recent record against their rivals.

The Manchester derby is a vital game in the context of a normal season for both clubs, but for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer it may determine his future in the United dugout. The Red Devils were humiliated by Liverpool in their last outing in the Premier League on home soil, suffering a 5-0 defeat. United bounced back in the league with a 3-0 win over Tottenham last time out and then were rescued by Cristiano Ronaldo in their Champions League clash against Atalanta during the week. United can move level on points with City with a win today, but will take a flawless effort from Solskjaer's men.
