Commentary

Wilson will take the plaudits for his strike, while Fellaini deserves credit for changing the game off the bench. Lampard can celebrate against his former manager, but Mourinho will once again be under the microscope after another disappointing performance.
What a game that was at Old Trafford and that could be the best set of penalties we have seen for many years. Neither side wanted to exit at this stage but it is Derby that record a famous win this evening.

90' + 4' United are stil scrapping away and Derby have a few minutes left to hang on.
90' + 2' Six added minutes at Old Trafford...
90' + 1' A one-two between Martial and Lukaku allows the former to have a shot but he smashes his effort over the bar. While he has looked dangerous, the Frenchman has wasted every chance he has got.
90' Martial reacts quickly and tries to fire home but he can only blast his overhead kick into the stands.

A. Wisdom
J. Bogle
86' Lampard just trying to sure things up as Wisdom comes on for Bogle.
86' Referee Stuart Atwell considers VAR before confirming the goal but Derby's fans go wild as he restarts the game.
J. Marriott
Goal
85' GOAAALLLLLL UNBELIEVEABLE SCENES! Man United 1-2 Derby - Marriott scores his first goal for the Rams as he heads home past Grant. Mount's shot was originally blocked by the keeper but he could only palm it into the path of Marriott.
82' Wasted opportunity from United as Fellaini plays in Martial with a neat header. However, the Frenchman leans back and can only blaze his shot over the crossbar.
J. Marriott
D. Nugent
79' Fresh legs for Derby as Nugent comes off for Marriott.
79' Despite having a superior squad, United have barely threatened in the second half and this result will only add to the pressure on Mourinho's shoulders.
78' SAVE - Grant denies Jozefzoon after his low header nearly found the bottom corner.
F. Jozefzoon
M. Bennett
77' Bennett has put himself about tonight but his evening is over. On comes Jozefzoon for the final 13 minutes.
75' Romero is the first United player to receive a straight red card at Old Trafford in any competition since Eric Bailly did so back in May 2017 in the Europa League.
73' OFF THE POST - Lukaku rattles the frame of the goal after a powerful left-footed strike. Derby's defence stood off him for a split second but the upright denied him.
71' Mount takes but he fires straight into the wall.
L. Grant
Mata
70' Mata is sacrificed to allow Grant to come on. Derby have a free-kick right on the edge of the United box and Wilson will be looking to take it again.
S. Romero
Red Card
67' RED CARD!!!! Romero makes his way to the stands and that is an absolute howler from the Argentinean. A long ball over the top picked out Wilson and Romero handled outside the area. He has to go and Grant will now come on against his former club.
65' Derby continue to pile forward despite the United subs. What a result this would be if they could go and grab a second.
M. Fellaini
Ander Herrera
63' Another change in midfield as Fellaini comes on for Herrera.
Fred
J. Lingard
63' Fred, who scored his first goal last week, is now on the field as he replaces Lingard.
61' That goal is worthy of winning any contest but Derby will expect a response from the home side. Subs incoming...
H. Wilson
Goal
59' WHAT A GOAL!!!!!!!! Wilson sends the Derby fans wild as he smashes his effort into the top corner. United's three-man wall stood no chance and the swerve beat Romero. It is 1-1 at Old Trafford.
58' Potential chance for Derby as they win a free-kick...Wilson to take.
57' The atmosphere has turned tense inside Old Trafford and Derby are certainly enjoying themselves in Lancashire. If they get a goal then it is straight to penalties tonight, with no extra time in place in the EFL Cup this season.
55' Forysth makes his way into the box and somehow finds himself in the area, despite United having three or four defenders within touching distance. Mourinho's men eventually clear but that is another example of what Derby can do if given time and space.
J. Lingard
Yellow Card
54' Lingard into the book as Derby pile on the pressure.
53' SAVE!!!! Derby fly forward and the attack looks to have broken down when Nugent is dispossessed. However, Bailly's touch falls to Wilson and his shot is tipped around the post by Romero.
51' Lampard still stood on the touchline trying to encourage his players but he will be happy with what he is seeing. His team might be losing but they are certainly scrapping for every ball.
49' Derby have started well in the first few minutes of the second half, with Mount once again a real nuisance for the home defence.
C. Forsyth
Yellow Card
48' Not the best start to the second half from Forsyth as he is shown a yellow card.
46' We are back underway!
United will feel they need another goal before the game is put to bed, but Derby need to do more in the final third to make sure that does not happen. They have had more of the ball but they look lost at times when they enter the United box. Some of that can be blamed on the quality of the United defence but there is every chance we get more goals in the second 45 minutes.
Mata's goal inside the third minute is the different at the break. Lukaku should also have scored but it has been a tough midfield battle since that strike from the Spaniard. Martial looks a real threat but Derby are not out of this tie just yet.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME - Manchester United 1-0 Derby County.
45' Two minutes of stoppage time at Old Trafford...
44' Relief for Derby as they push up and the linesman signals that Lingard is offside. It is a good job he was, the England man was ready to fire home.
42' Just a few minutes to go until the break and neither team are trying to force the play. It is all very steady and careful for now.
40' Despite trailing, Derby are putting up a real fight and they have stepped up since going behind. The pressure from midfield is much better but they have not done enough to test Romero in the United goal.
37' Less than 10 minutes to go and United still lead with relative ease. Martial and Mata continue to look a real threat and there's every chance they could double their advantage before the break.
35' Bogle makes his way to the edge of United's box and he tries to find Nugent but the striker cannot connect with his cross at the far post.
33' Mata has scored his first Manchester United goal in 276 days. No wonder he looked happy earlier!
31' Derby are slowly coming back into this game but they have yet to test Romero since he made a save from Bennett.
28' Mourinho's troops win a corner and Mata decides to drill the ball to the near post with very little backlift. He picks out Bailly but his volley cannot find the back of the net.
27' United win a free-kick after Martial was fouled but Young can only hit the top of the wall with his effort.
M. Bennett
Yellow Card
25' Bennett becomes the first man to be shown a yellow card after pulling down Martial.
24' CHANCE - Martial bamboozles Bogle for the third time and his looping cross picks out Lukaku. The striker looks destined to score in front of an open net but he has to stretch and he heads over the crossbar. Huge chance for United!
23' While Mount and Bennett have looked sharp, the Derby players have struggled to involve Nugent so far this evening. The former England international will continue to work hard but he needs more service.
21' WIDE - Derby work the ball through midfield and the last pass finds Bryson but the playmaker hooks his shot wide of the near post.
19' United will be hoping Martial can continue to play with so much confidence. The former Monaco man looks really fired up tonight and Derby youngster Bogle is going to have his work cut out.
16' After a frantic start, it appears that the 22 players are now starting to settle down into a rhythm. United deservedly lead but Derby are still fighting for every ball.
14' The pace is relentless from both teams but some quick defending is needed at the back from Tomori. Young peels behind the Derby defence but the centre-back reacts and clears the ball down the line.
12' WIDE - A mistake from Derby plays in Lukaku and the former Everton man makes a powerful run towards goal. However, the frontman tries to squeeze the ball home at the near post and can only fire wide.
10' OFF THE POST - Young tries to put Carson under pressure by firing a cross to the near post and he nearly makes it two-nil as his effort hits the post before bouncing clear.
9' CHANCE - Young decides to go route one and he makes a sensational pass as he picks out Mata. The Spaniard glides into the area unmarked but Carson comes out to deny him and force a corner.
6' SAVE - Mount splits the United defence with a right-footed pass and he finds Bennett at the far post. The winger tries to find the bottom corner but Romero does well to make a save before diving on the loose ball. It remains 1-0 to United!
5' Derby's night was always going to be difficult but they have just made things much much harder for themselves.
J. Lingard
Assist
3' Martial played in Lukaku who then looked behind to find Lingard and the England international played in Mata with a simple pass.
Mata
Goal
3' GOAALLLL WHAT A START! Man United 1-0 Derby. Mata fires the home side in front as he finishes off a superb team move. At least four United players were involved before Mata curls the ball home from inside the box.
3' CHANCE - United respond immediately and Martial bursts down the left wing. His cross picks out Lukaku but the Belgian can only head straight down the throat of Carson in the Derby goal.
2' Derby start the game on the front foot as they charge forward but Wilson's cross from the left flies past the far post.
1' We are underway at Old Trafford!

Tonight's TEAM NEWS coming up...
A Derby win would come as a shock tonight, especially with United's record in this competition. Manchester United have won 14 of their last 15 third round League Cup matches, losing only in 2007-08 against Coventry City at Old Trafford.
These two sides last met in January of this year in the FA Cup, with United running out 2-0 winners. They were also successful when they played Derby in the same competition in 2016, winning 3-1 at Pride Park.
Jose Mourinho's men are unbeaten in their last four matches in all competitions but Derby will pose a stern test after they finally found their feet under coach Frank Lampard. The former Chelsea midfielder enjoyed plenty of success against the Red Devils as a player but tonight's encounter will pose a different challenge. Derby have won three of their last five games ahead of the game at the 'Theatre of Dreams'.
Hello and welcome to tonight's live coverage of the EFL Cup clash between Manchester United and Derby County at Old Trafford.
