Guardiola's men retained their top-flight crown after seeing off Brighton on the final day of the campaign and are odds-on to make it three in a row

Manchester City won the Premier League title on a rather anticlimactic final day of the season and bet365 have made them just 8/11 (1.73) favourites to retain their crown again in the early betting.

There was a scare for the Citizens when Glenn Murray opened the scoring for Brighton in the first half, but Sergio Aguero’s leveller moments later calmed any nerves and set the visitors on to a 4-1 victory.

Three points on the south coast ensured that the match at Liverpool’s would not impact proceedings, with the Reds needing to better City’s result to claim a maiden Premier League title.

Jurgen Klopp’s men beat Wolves 2-0 to finish on an astounding 97 points, just one behind Pep Guardiola’s counterparts, in one of the most enthralling title races of all time and are 3/1 (4.0) to go one better next term.

bet365’s Steve Freeth said: “A monumental title race has been settled on the final day and few would argue that Pep’s entertainers shouldn’t be favourites to win it three times on the bounce – a feat only achieved by Manchester United so far during the Premier League era.”

City lost four games this season and can be backed at 50/1 (51.0) to go unbeaten, whilst Liverpool were defeated only once – a 2-1 reverse at the Etihad Stadium – and are 66/1 (67.0) in the same market.

Man United are actually 9/1 (10.0) third-favourites to win the league for the first time since 2013 in what will be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first full season in charge. The mood, however, could be sour after a disappointing end to the season.

The Red Devils lost five and drew two of their final nine league games to finish sixth, with a 2-0 defeat at home to relegated Cardiff in their last match the cherry on the top of an ignominious cake.

Tottenham can be backed at 12/1 (13.0) after finishing fourth during an injury-hit season, whilst Chelsea and Arsenal are both out at 20/1 (21.0).

Wolves, meanwhile, had an impressive campaign back in the top-flight and are 150/1 (151.0) to spring a huge shock with a first league title since 1959.
