Thank you for joining our coverage, we hope you enjoyed the game. Until next time, goodbye!
City travel to face Burnley next, while Sheffield United host relegation rivals West Brom in a fixture of huge importance to both sides.
There goes the full-time whistle! Manchester City go four points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a narrow win over Sheffield United courtesy of Jesus' close-range goal inside the first nine minutes after fine work from Torres. The Blades hung on and came close to an equaliser late on as Fleck fired a half-volley just wide, but City's dominance in possession helped them claim all three points. It finishes 1-0 to City!
90' + 4' SAVE! What a save by Ramsdale! The ball is squared to Jesus in space on the left side of the box and the striker opens his body up and bends one towards the top-right corner, but Ramsdale somehow gets a hand to it and turns the shot past the post!
90' + 2' NO PENALTY! Zinchenko fizzes the ball forward to Foden on the left and he crosses into the box, but it's blocked by the arm of Baldock! The referee says no penalty, however, and VAR doesn't overrule him.
Ferran Torres
90' Guardiola makes a defensive change now, bringing Torres off for Rodri. The substitute slots into midfield, with Silva moving out to the right wing.
88' Sheffield United are generating some momentum now and City are doing their best to slow the game down. Their failure to score a second means the visitors are still in with a realistic chance of an equaliser.
86' CLOSE! Sheffield United are inches from an equaliser! Sharp holds off his marker and chests down for Fleck on the edge of the box and the midfielder hits a fierce, swerving drive that has Ederson beaten but fizzes agonisingly past the post!
J. Egan
Yellow Card
84' Egan now follows his team-mate into the book for persistent holding of Fernandinho as the midfielder burst forward.
G. Baldock
Yellow Card
82' Baldock flies into Foden as the youngster drives forward and receives a deserved yellow card. He's furious with the decision, but it was a poor challenge.
80' Laporte is down and needs to be checked over after taking a blow to the head from McBurnie during a collision. Thankfully, both players appear to be fine and are back on.
O. McBurnie
C. Basham
78' The second change is a bold one, with centre-half Basham going off for a third centre-forward in McBurnie. Wilder is certainly going for it now.
B. Sharp
O. Burke
77' Wilder makes that double-change now, with Burke replaced by Sharp up front in the first alteration.
76' Foden drives down the left and fires a low ball into the middle, but it's blocked behind for a corner by Egan.
74' Wilder appears to be readying a couple of substitutions on the Sheffield United bench. His side have stayed in the game and perhaps they can stun the hosts with some changes.
72' SAVE! The resulting corner is whipped into the box by Gundogan and it finds Laporte, who heads firmly at goal, but Ramsdale acrobatically tips it over the bar!
71' SAVE! City put together a lovely, flowing move as Silva surges down the right before exchanging passes with Gundogan and switching to Foden, who lays it off for Zinchenko to run onto just outside the box. The left-back smacks an effort across goal, but Ramsdale gets across to palm the stinging drive around the post!
69' City are still patiently working the ball around as they search for openings, but Sheffield United remain stubbornly organised in their low block and refuse to be carved open.
67' NO PENALTY! Torres is released in behind and he speeds away from Bogle before going down in the box as the Sheffield United defender puts an arm into his back, but the referee shakes his head and points for a goal-kick!
64' City press high and cover the passing angles well as Sheffield United try to build from the back. It's such an effort for the visitors to find a low-risk pass - let alone a progressive one - that they eventually lump it long and City gratefully accept the ball back.
D. McGoldrick
R. Brewster
62' Wilder makes his first change of the game, bringing Brewster - who has hardly touched the ball - off for McGoldrick up front.
60' OVER! Sheffield United have a rare chance as a right-wing cross is headed only half-clear to the left side of the box, where Bogle arrives unmarked, but the full-back lashes high over the bar! What a waste.
58' Four shots in the first half is the fewest in the first half of a Premier League match at the Etihad since January 2019 (4 - City vs Liverpool). The hosts have had just one more shot in the second half so far and Guardiola will want to see a little more ruthlessness from his side going forward in the time that remains.
56' SAVE! Jesus races onto a lofted ball in the box and diverts it at goal on the volley, but Ramsdale is quick off his line and makes a brave stop!
54' City haven't lost a home Premier League game when leading at half-time since April 2018 against Manchester United. Guardiola will expect his men to keep that run going with an efficient, professional second-half performance.
52' Lundstram and Foden collide as they compete for the ball and both players are down and require medical attention. Foden requires more extensive treatment but both are eventually okay and are able to continue.
50' CHANCE! Foden takes the ball down on the left and drops it back to Zinchenko, who curls in a terrific cross from deep to the back post where Torres nods across goal, but Jesus can't make contact and the chance goes begging!
48' WIDE! Dias' clever movement from the corner allows him to meet the delivery at the near post, but the angle is too sharp and the defender can only nod wide of the target!
47' Silva picks the ball up on the right of midfield and glides effortlessly past challenges and into the box where he tries to link up with Gundogan, but it's hacked behind for a corner. Outstanding close control from the Portuguese.
46' We're back underway for the second half!
Despite City failing to convert their superiority into more than just a one-goal lead, Wilder will have real cause for concern as his side have been forced to chase shadows for almost the entirety of the first half, managing just one shot. The Blades boss will have to choose between maintaining a cautious approach and taking the game to City in the second half, with his side trailing.
There goes the half-time whistle! City lead at the interval courtesy of a Jesus strike from close range after superb individual work from Torres down the right. The hosts have dominated the ball, as expected, but have perhaps lacked a little cutting edge to convert their possession into clear-cut chances. It's 1-0 to City at the break!
44' Dias makes a superb clearance from a dangerous pass aimed at the run of Burke into the box. He and Laporte have snuffed out the few chances Sheffield United have had very calmly.
42' Walker hits the byline and thumps a cross in that takes a looping deflection off Bogle, forcing Ramsdale to tip the ball over the crossbar as it dropped awkwardly into the six-yard box.
40' Torres looks very lively and once again bursts into space down the right before firing a low cross in towards Jesus, but it's a fraction behind the striker and it's hacked clear.
38' Zinchenko is furious as he's penalised for a foul throw and exchanges angry words with the referee. Silva was similarly unimpressed to be picked up for the same thing early on in the half.
36' Brewster registers the visitors' first shot of the game as he hits a low drive from outside the box, but it's right down the middle and Ederson makes a simple save.
34' City's wingers are pulling extremely wide to stretch the pitch and a raking ball from Dias finds Torres on the right. He works a yard and fires a cross into the middle, but Ramsdale claims it.
32' City's back line have spent the vast majority of the game so far on the halfway line as they squeeze up and suffocate the visitors. The Blades just can't get out.
30' Only West Bromwich Albion (against Liverpool) have scored fewer goals in their first nine Premier League meetings against an opponent (0) than Sheffield United have against Manchester City (1). No team has ever scored just one goal in their first 10 games against an opponent in the competition. The Blades are still yet to register a shot in this one.
28' Sheffield United have a rare opportunity to work the ball into the City box, but the attack breaks down and Ampadu's attempt to release Baldock in behind is flagged up for offside.
26' City come close to picking Sheffield United apart as the ball is dinked to Jesus on the left, but he can't direct his header cleanly back towards Gundogan from the byline and the visitors hack clear.
O. Norwood
Yellow Card
24' Norwood picks up the first yellow card of the game as the referee returns to an earlier incident having played advantage.
22' Sheffield United have seen less than 25% of the ball so far and are having to do an awful lot of chasing. They can't seem to keep possession even when they have it, often lumping it hopefully forward and straight back to the hosts.
20' Fernandinho dinks a superb ball over the top for Jesus to run onto, but he's tracked all the way and eventually dispossessed.
18' Walker slows up with the ball before knocking the ball into space on the right, but Fleck catches the right-back and brings him down. The free-kick is in a good position to deliver into the box, but City can't make the most of it.
16' SAVE! Sheffield United make a mess of clearing out from the back and a stray header is straight to Silva, but the Portuguese can only head straight at Ramsdale!
14' Walker is tucking in to form a back three, while Zinchenko is also coming very narrow into midfield, allowing Silva the freedom to drift wide and push forward. It's a clever system that ensures the hosts maintain dominance of the ball without overly exposing themselves to the counter-attack.
12' Jesus has now ended a run of nine Premier League appearances without a goal - the Brazilian has never lost a game when he's scored in this competition (W34 D2).
Ferran Torres
9' Torres showed great determination to keep going despite losing his footing and the skill to beat two defenders was sublime before giving Jesus a chance he couldn't miss!
Gabriel Jesus
9' GOAL!!! CITY TAKE AN EARLY LEAD!!! Torres races onto a ball over the top on the right that Ampadu can't head clear and latches onto it at the byline just inside the box. The winger goes down under the challenge of Bogle but keeps the ball and gets back up, beating Bogle and Ampadu before squaring to Jesus in the six-yard box. The striker's first touch gets stuck under his feet, but Ramsdale dives early and Jesus then thumps in from close range! It's 1-0 to City!
7' Sheffield United have hardly had a kick yet as City probe and pass in search of an opening. They have plenty forward and the visitors are being forced into a low, compact block.
5' City have dominated the ball in typical fashion in the first few minutes, keeping Sheffield United camped in their own half.
3' A loose pass in the Sheffield United half gives the visitors an early chance to break and it's fired forward for Burke to chase, but Laporte - on his return to the side - tracks back and makes a superb sliding challenge to dispossess him at the byline.
1' We're underway at the Etihad Stadium!
Sheffield United are the first team to name three players younger than 21 (Ampadu, Bogle and Brewster) in their starting line-up against Manchester City in the Premier League since Everton did so in August 2017.
Manchester City are unbeaten in their last 32 home Premier League matches against sides starting the day in the relegation zone (W28 D4) since losing 2-1 against Tottenham in November 2008.
Sheffield United head coach Chris Wilder also, surprisingly, makes four changes to the team that beat Manchester United. Jagielka, Bryan, Sharp and McGoldrick all find themselves on the bench, with Egan, Bogle, Brewster and match-winner Burke earning starting spots. Sander Berge, Jack Robinson, Jack O'Connell, Ben Osborn and Enda Stevens are all out injured.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola makes five changes to the side that beat West Brom 5-0 in their last outing, rotating his side for a second successive clash with a team in the relegation zone. Cancelo, Stones, Rodri, Sterling and Mahrez are all afforded a rest and start on the bench, with Walker, Laporte, Fernandinho, Torres and Jesus coming into the side. Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Nathan Ake are all sidelined through injury.
Sheffield United substitutes: Billy Sharp, David McGoldrick, Kyron Gordon, Wes Foderingham, Oliver McBurnie, Lys Mousset, Max Lowe, Phil Jagielka, Kean Bryan.
Sheffield United XI (3-5-2): Aaron Ramsdale; Chris Basham, John Egan, Ethan Ampadu; George Baldock, John Lundstram, Oliver Norwood, John Fleck, Jayden Bogle; Oliver Burke, Rhian Brewster.
Manchester City substitutes: Benjamin Mendy, Zack Steffen, Riyad Mahrez, Joao Cancelo, Adrian Bernabe, Eric Garcia, John Stones, Raheem Sterling, Rodri.
Manchester City XI (4-3-3): Ederson; Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, Oleksandr Zinchenko; Bernardo Silva, Fernandinho, Ilkay Gundogan; Ferran Torres, Gabriel Jesus, Phil Foden.
Bottom-of-the-league Sheffield United will be hoping to claim another big scalp in Manchester after beating Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford last time out, though a win for league leaders Manchester City would see them take a four-point lead at the top.
