Manchester City go above Liverpool on goal difference, though they have played a game more than Jurgen Klopp's side. Attention turns to cup action for Guardiola's team, with the FA Cup, League Cup final and Champions League last 16 in their next three matches. Chelsea face Malmo in the Europa League in midweek before a clash with Manchester United in the FA Cup. The Blues drop down to sixth with this heavy defeat, putting Sarri under severe pressure ahead of a challenging run of fixtures.

Manchester City beat Chelsea 6-0 to go back to the top of the Premier League table. Aguero netted his 11th Premier League hat-trick, including a brilliant first from distance. Sterling scored the first and sixth goals and won the penalty that Aguero converted to complete his hat-trick. Gundogan made it 4-0 before half-time with a first-time effort from the edge of the area.

Guardiola will obviously be delighted with the score, though he may be frustrated that his players relaxed a little after going four up, allowing Chelsea to have sustained possession. Sarri might look to make early changes, with Willian and Kovacic the probable substitutes. Manchester City do not have a match in midweek, but Guardiola could opt to give Aguero a rest in the second half ahead of a crucial few weeks, including the League Cup final against Chelsea.

Manchester City lead 4-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Sterling, Aguero and Gundogan. Sterling gave the hosts the lead early on before two Aguero strikes, including a stunning effort from range for his first. Gundogan made it four with a first-time shot from the edge of the area. Chelsea had a period of pressure after Gundogan's goal, but failed to create any good chances.

23' Sergio Agüero has become just the sixth player in Premier League history to register 200 goal involvements for a single club in the competition, after Wayne Rooney (Man Utd), Ryan Giggs (Man Utd), Thierry Henry (Arsenal), Frank Lampard (Chelsea) and Steven Gerrard (Liverpool).

21' Hazard is crowded out in the area and opts to pass to Barkley. Attempting to make up for his error, the England international shoots from the edge of the area and it goes well wide.

17' Kante wins the ball in midfield, quickly feeding it to Pedro. The Spaniard finds Barkley, who plays a slow pass to Hazard. The Belgian dummies and Alonso attempts a first-time pass, but it goes out for a goal kick.

4' Jorginho fouls De Bruyne in central midfield after letting the Belgian get on the wrong side of him. Mike Dean decides against a booking.

2' Hazard gets the ball in space on the left and crosses to Higuain on the edge of the area. His shot is blocked.

2' Chelsea start the match with possession and are forced to go long when Aguero presses high.

Chelsea are winless in their last six Premier League away games against ‘big six’ opposition (D2 L4), losing the last four in a row.

Sarri makes just the one change after cruising past Huddersfield at Stamford Bridge. Willian is replaced by Pedro on the right flank and Barkley retains his place in the midfield trio ahead of Loftus-Cheek and Kovacic, who both make the bench. Youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi is left out of the squad having suffered with a fever in midweek.

Pep Guardiola makes three changes to the team that beat Everton in midweek. Otamendi drops to the bench with Zinchenko filling in at left-back, while Sane is left out for Sterling to return to the line-up. David Silva misses out for De Bruyne, meaning Bernardo Silva continues in the front three.

Chelsea will be feeling positive, having thrashed Huddersfield last weekend. Maurizio Sarri masterminded a 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture, and Chelsea could do with another positive result here as the top four battle heats up. A win will put the Blues fourth, but their form has been patchy of late, losing their two league matches before the victory over Huddersfield.

Manchester City beat Everton in midweek to go level on points with Liverpool at the top of the table. Victory this afternoon would put Pep Guardiola’s side top on goal difference. City are full of confidence coming into this match, having won all but one of their matches this calendar year.
