Commentary

That brings an end to our coverage of the Premier League fixture between Leicester City and Chelsea at King Power Stadium. Thank you very much for joining us. Goodbye!
After their fourth-round FA Cup clash against Brentford, Leicester return to top-flight action looking to continue their good form when they travel to face Everton. Chelsea, meanwhile, host Wolves after their FA Cup contest with Luton Town.
After two first-half goals, Leicester beat Chelsea and climb to the top of the Premier League table. The Foxes had the lead after just nine minutes, when a long-range effort from Ndidi cannoned into the bottom-left corner off the post, before Maddison added another three minutes after Chelsea were denied a penalty by VAR. The Blues fought well in the second half, with Werner having a goal ruled out for offside, but the hosts comfortably held on to claim the points.
90' + 4' FULL TIME: LEICESTER CITY 2-0 CHELSEA
90' + 2' SAVE! Some bright play from Chelsea sees Mount find Ziyech down the right side of the Foxes’ penalty area. The winger cuts onto his left foot, but his tame effort is hit straight at Schmeichel.
90' There will be three added minutes at the end of this match.
H. Ziyech
Yellow Card
89' Justin brilliantly turns away from Ziyech down the left flank and the winger is booked for pulling back the full-back. The Foxes now have a free-kick near the corner flag in Chelsea’s half.
K. Iheanacho
J. Vardy
88' With just two minutes of normal time left to play, Iheanacho comes on for Vardy. It is still 2-0.
87' NO GOAL! The resulting free-kick from just outside the box is chipped into the area and Werner is quickest to react, steering it into the bottom-right corner, but the flag is up for offside. After consulting VAR, the decision stands.
W. Fofana
Yellow Card
85' Fofana picks up a late yellow card after catching Pulisic as he looked to drive down the left-hand side of the field.
83' Castagne is clipped by Abraham and Leicester win a free-kick in an advanced position down the right flank. The delivery is not dealt with initially, but the Blues do eventually clear their lines.
81' Castagne plays a wonderful throughball beyond Silva for Vardy to chase. The striker looks to cut inside of Rudiger, but the ball just gets away from him and Mendy is able to claim it. That was a dangerous attack from the Foxes.
79' Chelsea last had 29 points or fewer at the halfway stage of a Premier League campaign back in 2015-16 (20), when they finished 10th.
Ricardo Pereira
M. Albrighton
76' Pereira also makes his long-awaited return from injury, coming on for Albrighton.
Ayoze Pérez
J. Maddison
76' As we enter the final 15 minutes, Leicester make their first change as Maddison is replaced by Perez.
74' Ziyech attempted to set James away after spotting his overlapping run, although Evans read the situation and intercepted the pass in a dangerous area down the right flank.
72' Pulisic looks to take on Castagne and drive Chelsea into the home side’s penalty area. The full-back sticks out a foot to knock the ball behind, and the attacker goes down appealing for a penalty. The referee was, however, well placed to wave away the protest.
70' Kovacic looked for Pulisic with a lofted throughball beyond the hosts’ defence, but he had made his run a fraction too early, and the referee’s assistant flagged for offside.
T. Werner
C. Hudson-Odoi
68' Werner also enters the fray in place of Hudson-Odoi. It remains 2-0.
H. Ziyech
K. Havertz
67' Lampard now turns to his bench in an effort to breach the Foxes’ defence. Ziyech replaces Havertz.
66' Hudson-Odoi does well to get a yard on Justin and float a cross into the box, although it is too close to Schmeichel, who easily gathers it.
64' Vardy goes down under pressure from Mount on the halfway line, and Leicester win a free-kick.
62' Fofana takes it upon himself to drive Leicester up the field, running through the visitors’ midfield. However, after moving down the right flank, a heavy touch takes the ball over the line for a throw-in.
60' After his earlier goal, Maddison has now scored the same number of top-flight goals this season as he managed throughout the whole of last season (6), despite playing 14 fewer matches this term.
58' Silva is nudged under the ball by Vardy, and the referee awards Chelsea a free-kick just inside the hosts’ half.
57' ALMOST THREE! With Chelsea pushing on to pull one back, the Foxes are now able to play on the counter. Vardy drives the hosts forward before cutting back onto his left foot and playing Tielemans in down the left side of the penalty area. After setting himself, the Belgian’s left-footed attempt is stopped by Mendy’s legs.
55' CLOSE! Mount’s in-swinging corner from the left is not dealt with by Ndidi at the near post, and the delivery ricochets off James and bounces into Schmeichel’s gloves. That could have gone anywhere!
53' Maddison creates a yard of space to steer a cross into the area, and Evans’ resulting header is easily claimed by Mendy.
M. Kovačić
Yellow Card
51' Kovacic goes into the book after cynically bringing down Maddison on the halfway line when the English midfielder looked to break. He left the referee no choice with that challenge.
51' OVER! Abraham rises highest in the centre of the box to get on the end of Mount’s corner, although he cannot keep his effort down as it sails over the top of Schmeichel’s goal.
50' HAS TO SCORE! After regaining possession high up the field, Albrighton finds a yard of space down the right flank and whips in an inviting cross towards the back post. Justin gets a yard on James, although his close-range header just goes wide of the near post. He should score there!
49' Barnes looks to float a curling cross from the left into the centre of the box for Vardy to attack, but Silva spots the danger and hooks it to safety.
48' Leicester have gone on to win each of their last 22 Premier League games when leading by two or more goals at half-time.
46' We are back under way! Pawson, the referee, blows his whistle and Leicester get the second half kicked off.
Rodgers will be delighted with his team's effort thus far and will hope for more of the same after the restart. The hosts have been in control for much of the game, with Chelsea struggling to deal with Barnes and Albrighton in the wide areas. Chelsea, meanwhile, will need to improve in the second half if they are to get something from this match. Abraham has been far too isolated at times, while the quality of delivery into the striker has often lacked precision. Pulisic has looked bright, and the Blues will need to get him involved more often after the break.
After an action-packed first half, Leicester take a two-goal lead in at the break. The home side started on the front foot and found the breakthrough on nine minutes, as Ndidi lashed home a left-footed strike from range following a short-corner routine. Lampard’s team were awarded a penalty on 38 minutes, but VAR overturned the decision, instead giving a free-kick, before Maddison extended the Foxes’ lead three minutes later.
45' + 3' HALF TIME: LEICESTER CITY 2-0 CHELSEA
45' + 2' Tielemans goes down under pressure from Mount on the edge of the hosts’ penalty area and wins a free-kick.
45' There will be two minutes of added time at the end of the first half.
43' Abraham catches Fofana and Rodgers’ side win a free-kick deep inside their own half.
M. Albrighton
Assist
41' Albrighton’s deft pass was perfectly executed, and Vardy felt that he should have been awarded a penalty after being impeded by Rudiger. The inch-perfect pass, however, was not wasted, with Maddison alert to latch onto the ball and finish the move.
J. Maddison
Goal
41' GOAL! Maddison doubles the Foxes’ advantage! Schmeichel’s long pass is not dealt with by Chelsea’s defenders, allowing Albrighton to swing an inviting pass into the box for Vardy from the right. Rudiger nudges the striker to floor, and Maddison arrives late to steer the ball beyond Mendy from the centre of the box. 2-0.
40' NO PENALTY! After consulting VAR, a free-kick on the edge of the box is given. Mount takes the effort, but he cannot get it up and down as it sails over the bar.
38' PENALTY? Mount fires a pass into Pulisic, who is clipped by Evans as he skipped beyond the experienced defender and into the box. A penalty is initially awarded, but the decision is going to VAR, as the challenge looked to begin outside the box...
36' Regarding that earlier chance for Vardy, replays show that he was fractionally offside. So, had he scored, it would not have counted.
34' GREAT CHANCE! Albrighton spots Vardy’s run just inside from the right flank, and picks out the attacker with a pinpoint pass. One-on-one with Mendy, the Englishman goes for the chip, but he cannot get the better of the visitors’ goalkeeper. There was, however, a question of offside...
32' JUST WIDE! The Blues spring into life as Havertz cleverly flicks the ball into Pulisic, who can drive at Leicester’s defence. The American lays it off to his right for Hudson-Odoi, but his attempt from the right side of the box sails into the side netting. He should do better there.
31' Chelsea have kept a clean sheet in just 17 per cent of their away games in the Premier League under Frank Lampard (5/29). Of those who have taken charge of more than 10 away matches in the competition, this is the lowest percentage of any Blues manager.
K. Havertz
Yellow Card
29' Havertz is the first player to pick up a yellow card after pulling Barnes back when he looked to advance down the left wing. He can have no complaints with that decision.
28' Pulisic is impeded by Castagne inside the away side’s half and the referee awards Chelsea a free-kick.
26' GOOD EFFORT! After regaining the ball down the left flank, Barnes advances possession to Albrighton in a central area. The winger takes a touch to set himself, before seeing his right-footed drive from range tipped behind for a corner by Mendy.
24' The Foxes look to break down the left-hand side of the field through Justin. The full-back gets his head up and attempts to steer a cross towards the back post for Vardy, but Silva gets across and intercepts the delivery.
23' Chilwell plays a neat pass inside for Havertz. The German had found a yard of space inside the hosts’ penalty area, although Evans used his body well to shield the ball into Schmeichel’s path.
21' CHANCE! Mount’s in-swinging delivery finds Silva at the near post, but his header is directed straight at Schmeichel, who punches it to safety.
20' The Blues are enjoying their best spell of possession at present as they look to create an opening from deep. Hudson-Odoi combines well with James, who wins a corner after Schmeichel was forced to tip his cross over the bar from an acute angle.
18' Lampard’s side are yet to find their rhythm in this game, with the Foxes pressing at every opportunity.
16' OFF THE BAR! Castagne picks the ball up down the right flank after a clever reverse pass from Albrighton. The full-back cuts inside onto his left foot before teeing it off to Maddison, who fires a fiercely-struck shot against the bar from the edge of the box.
14' Chelsea have lost their last two midweek Premier League games. They last lost three such matches in a row back in May 2012.
12' Abraham almost takes down Hudson-Odoi's cross from the right, but Fofana was in the right place to steal the ball away from the England forward, denying him a close-range shot on goal from the centre of the box.
10' The Foxes are pushing forward in their efforts to score a second goal. Barnes advances down the left and wins a corner off James, but the resulting set-piece comes to nothing.
8' Hudson-Odoi clips Justin and the full-back wins a free-kick in his own defensive third.
H. Barnes
Assist
6' Leicester's short corner routine caught the visitors out, who were too slow to pick up Barnes in the middle. The winger will get the assist, but that goal is all about the well-struck effort from Ndidi.
W. Ndidi
Goal
6' GOAL! Leicester take the lead! Maddison works a short corner from the right to Albrighton, who then cuts it back to Barnes on the edge of the box. The attacker slices his shot backwards, and Ndidi picks up the loose ball and lashes it from range into the bottom-left corner off the post. Mendy had no chance. 1-0.
5' Maddison drives inside from the left flank and looks to set Vardy away beyond Silva. Abraham is alert to spot a dangerous situation emerging and cynically trips the Leicester midfielder, conceding a free-kick midway inside the Blues’ half.
3' Rudiger launches a long, searching pass in behind the Leicester defence for Pulisic to chase. The flight of the ball makes it difficult to control, allowing Evans and Fofana to get across and thwart the initial danger before Chelsea look to come again through the centre.
2' Albrighton looks to apply some early pressure on Chilwell deep inside the visitors’ half and concedes a free-kick.
1' Kick off! The referee, Craig Pawson, blows his whistle and Chelsea get the game under way.
The teams are out, and kick-off will soon be upon us here at King Power Stadium.
Leicester are unbeaten in their last five Premier League meetings with Chelsea, although four of these games have ended level.
Brendan Rodgers’ side come into this match third in the table. Should they win against the Blues, then they will climb to top spot, one point ahead of Manchester United. The Foxes are unbeaten in their last five Premier League matches, although they have won just three of their previous six home games. The away side, meanwhile, come into the match in seventh spot and can overtake Everton in sixth with a victory against Leicester. The Blues have struggled for consistency this season, winning just two of their last six fixtures.
Leicester are unchanged from a two-goal victory over Southampton in their last Premier League fixture. Vardy is deemed to fit to start despite coming off early against the Saints with hip problem, while Nampalys Mendy is not in the squad due to a neck issue. There are, however, four alterations to Frank Lampard’s Chelsea side for their trip to King Power Stadium. In come James, Havertz, Hudson-Odoi and Abraham for Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Ziyech and Olivier Giroud.
CHELSEA SUBS: Kepa Arrizabalaga, Emerson, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta, Billy Gilmour, Jorginho, Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner.
LEICESTER CITY SUBS: Danny Ward, Caglar Soyuncu, Ricardo Pereira, Luke Thomas, Daniel Amartey, Hamza Choudhury, Cengiz Under, Ayoze Perez, Kelechi Iheanacho.
CHELSEA (4-3-3): Edouard Mendy; Reece James, Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger, Ben Chilwell; Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount; Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic, Tammy Abraham.
LEICESTER CITY (4-2-3-1): Kasper Schmeichel; Timothy Castagne, Wesley Fofana, Jonny Evans, James Justin; Wilfred Ndidi, Youri Tielemans; Marc Albrighton, James Maddison, Harvey Barnes; Jamie Vardy.
The home side come into this clash seeking to extend their winning run to three consecutive top-flight matches following their 2-0 victory against Southampton last time out. Chelsea, on the other hand, will look to build on their 1-0 win over Fulham.
