Commentary

That's all for our live coverage from Milan, thank you for following along. Good bye!
The Nerazzurri are back into the top four as Mauro Icardi's strike sees them return to their winning ways at San Siro. In the end it was a bit of a panic for Inter to see out the lead, but they could have been well in front by that point had it not been for the heroics of Andrea Seculin.
FULL-TIME: INTER 1-0 CHIEVO.
THAT WAS THE CHANCE! Into the first of three minutes of added time and Pellissier is left all alone at the far post, but he looks to the heavens after lifting a strike over the bar! What a miss that was - a real stomach in the throat moment for Inter!
Felipe Melo
M. Brozović
Internazionale
Sensing Chievo are starting to ask questions, Inter opt to make the final change to run time off the clock and slow the pace. Brozovic is replaced by Felipe Melo.
Blocked! Chievo send everyone forward, with little choice at this point, and it nearly pays dividends. Inglese's strike from the top of the box is blocked by Kondogbia, before a cross from Castro is just cleared to safety by Miranda.
STAT: Inter have scored 26 goals in the first 22 match-days of this campaign, their worst goalscoring record at this stage of the season since 1994/95.
A. Ljajić
E. Martins
Internazionale
Inter make a like-for-like change to inject a bit of pace in attack as tired legs start to take over. Adem Ljajic gets a brief run out, with Eder giving way.
F. Costa
I. Radovanović
Chievo
A final change for Chievo, who are still in this with a chance to salvage a point, and they opt to bring on Filippo Costa, with holding midfielder Radovanovic giving way. They need a spark in any way possible.
THIS IS REMARKABLE! Seculin has been about as busy as an accountant during tax season, as he makes another truly impressive save to deny Murillo's header from point-blank range!
SECULIN KEEPS CHIEVO IN IT! The keeper's contributions have been plentiful tonight, and this one may just be his best of the bunch. Miranda rises well to meet a corner and sends a header destined for the back of the net, but Seculin somehow scampers across to get his fingertips to it!
Juan Jesus
R. Palacio
Internazionale
As the tempo slows to a near stand-still, Inter make their first change of the evening. Defender Juan Jesus is on to help see out the victory, with Palacio giving way. This should see Inter switch to a 4-4-2, with Nagatomo pushing forward a bit.
L. Castro
Yellow Card
Chievo
Substitute Lucas Castro joins in on the fun, picking up a yellow card for handling the ball in a rather obvious fashion.
Y. Nagatomo
Yellow Card
Internazionale
Nagatomo is now shown a yellow card as the bookings begin to pile up. These players are playing with wax legs and it's entirely possible that we don't finish with 22 players on the pitch.
P. M'Poku
V. Birsa
Chievo
Rolando Maran introduces a third striker as he throws caution to the wind in an attempt to negotiate an equaliser. Paul-Jose M'Poku comes on to replace Birsa.
R. Inglese
Yellow Card
Chievo
Inglese becomes the fourth Chievo player booked on the evening.
INCHES AWAY! After much deliberation, the free-kick is taken by Brozovic who tries to curl an effort into the near corner, but gets just a bit under it as it sails narrowly over the bar.
N. Spolli
Yellow Card
Chievo
Spolli has been playing with fire all evening. The defender is struggling when asked to turn and give chase, and he finally goes into the book for a cynical foul on Eder. That was about as sloppy as a soup sandwich.
The midfield third is getting about as congested as the Tokyo subway during rush hour. Chievo are making more of an attempt to close down on the ball, while Inter seem to be twiddling their proverbial thumbs in possession, uninterested in pushing the pace.
ICARDI DENIED HIS BRACE! The striker is able to make a run inside of Spolli, and is played through by Nagatomo. He fends off the challenge and gets a sound strike off from eight-yards out, but Seculin is on hand to tip it over the bar. That would have been curtains.
Continuing to apply the pressure, Chievo are inching closer to an equaliser. A good ball in from the right is met by the head of Pellissier, but his effort is sent straight into the waiting arms of Handanovic.
STAT: Inter and Chievo have collected the same number of points over the last six Serie A matches (5).
Wasted opportunity! Birsa stands over the free-kick in a very prominent position a couple yards outside the box, dead centre, but he can't force Handanovic into action. That's a real let-off for Inter.
João Miranda
Yellow Card
Internazionale
Miranda goes into the book as he takes down Rigoni just outside the penalty area. This is a real chance for Chievo to try and nick a goal, or at least make Handanovic work.
L. Castro
G. Pinzi
Chievo
Chievo make their first change of the evening as attacking midfielder Lucas Castro comes on to replace Pinzi. The visitors have to start taking a few chances in the hopes of mounting a comeback.
HOW HAS THAT NOT GONE IN? Nagatoma makes strides down the right and produces a picture-perfect cross onto the head of Icardi, who is so unlucky to see his effort from close range rattle off the underside of the bar and stay out!
Chievo have found their footing, if only for a moment, but they're producing a good response after falling behind. They've struggled to carve out chances, but at least now they're managing to spend some time in the attacking third.
E. Martins
Yellow Card
Internazionale
Eder goes into the book as he lunges into the back of Pinzi, before handling the ball. Two fouls in succession force the referee to take action.
STAT: Chive have conceded 14 goals in their last six games, having shipped just 16 in their opening 16 league games this season.
João Miranda
Assist
Internazionale
Miranda picks up the assist as it was his shot turned pass that fell kindly for the Argentine.
M. Icardi
Goal
Internazionale
CHIEVO RESISTANCE IS FINALLY BROKEN! It's as scrappy as you'd like, but Inter will take them any way they can get them! A mad scramble in the box sees the ball eventually fall for Icardi, and the Nerazzurri's leading scorer smashes it home from close range.
Back underway in Milan!
HALF-TIME: INTER 0-0 CHIEVO. Scoreless at the break in Milan, but not for a lack of chances. Seculin has been excellent in keeping Inter out, but the hosts continue to knock on the door. Will they get their goal or can the Gialloblu successfully park the bus?
No time to be added on, says the referee!
Play comes to a halt, much to the appreciation of Chievo who are in desperate need of a breather in defence. Spolli is fouled by Palacio atop the box and the defender stays down clutching his face. It doesn't look like much, other than a chance for him to help get this game into the break.
Great spell of possession for the Nerazzurri who surely have to get themselves a goal soon. Medel finds Eder with a cross, but the forward's header misses the target. They continue to apply the pressure and Brozovic tees up from the top of the box, but Cesar manages to get a block in.
STAT: Chievo haven’t won away at Inter in Serie A since their first visit in December 2001, drawing four and losing eight since then.
Telles does well to dribble his way beyond Frey on the left flank, but he can't produce the necessary cross to pick out a teammate. Pressure stays on and Icardi is presented with a chance atop the area, but he's closed down well by Radovanovic.
LOOOOOONG-RANGE EFFORT! Icardi from distance, and I mean distance! The striker spots the keeper off his line and tries his luck from close to 50-yards out. The height and distance is perfect, but the accuracy is just a bit off as it drifts beyond the woodwork.
TURNED ASIDE AGAIN! Brozovic with the chance this time, cutting in onto his right and trying to curl a shot in at the far post, but Seculin dives over to knock it behind! The ensuing corner is met by Icardi, but his header glances just wide. The Nerazzurri are knocking on the door yet again.
Chievo are slowly starting to grow into the game, and Inter are allowing that to happen by not converting their pressure into a goal. They've generated some clear-cut chances, to their credit, but Seculin has proven quite difficult to beat.
S. Pellissier
Yellow Card
Chievo
Pellissier takes one for the team, after being beaten in midfield by Kondogbia, tugging on the shirt of the midfielder to prevent him from rolling a ball through for Icardi. That sees him become the second Chievo player booked on the night.
STAT: Inter have yet to score in the opening 15 minute of their Serie A matches this season. Chievo have conceded the most in that time frame in the top flight this campaign.
Penalty appeals denied! And rightfully so, by the referee, as a ball chipped over the top is chased by Icardi who falls to ground once realising he wouldn't be able to get on the end of it. It was an innocent tangle of the feet between him and Cesar, and the referee saw it accordingly.
Inter applying great pressure yet again and the opening goal appears imminent. Chievo are barely clinging on as the hosts whip cross after cross into the area. The only saving grace for the visitors is that Inter lack the height to properly attack them.
SECULIN SAVES THE DAY AGAIN! The keeper has been forced into action time and time again in this first half, and has come up big on every occasion. This time it's Palacio who sets up Kondogbia inside the area, and the midfielder tries to place a shot in at the near post, but Seculin is able to get across and again put his body in front of the effort before Nagatomo's follow-up sails over the bar.
The tempo has slowed a bit as we surpass the 20-minute mark. Inter look like they're playing through mud in midfield as Chievo apply a bit more pressure and urgency off the ball.
STAT: Inter are yet to win a game from a losing position this season (D2, L3).
Important intervention! Handanovic is forced into action for the first time as Chievo muster a quick attack. A cross comes in from the right and is chased down by Pellissier, but the Inter keeper gets off his line and puts a strong hand to it. The first goal is so important given the fragile mental state these two teams find themselves in.
Chievo are finding themselves pinned back in their own end, unable to keep the ball when they win it back. They're being held to playing long, hopeful balls over the top in an attempt to break into attack, but the Inter defenders are winning all of them.
SPECTACULAR GOALKEEPING! Better build-up play this time from the hosts as the ball is worked through the heart of defence before Brozovic finds Icardi inside the area. The striker makes great contact with his shot, but Seculin makes a remarkable save to keep it out at the near post!
Inter are starting to take control and dictate the tempo, enjoying plenty of time in possession. The worry for the hosts is the lack of creative flair in the team. As they have come to find out over the course of the season, their best striker is also their best crosser of the ball, in the form of Icardi - that's a problem.
SMART SAVE! Inter orchestrate the first chance of the evening on the back of a fine bit of interplay down the right. The low cross comes in from Icardi, and is met by the run of Eder towards the near post, but his first-time shot is kept out by the leg of Seculin!
STAT: Inter have kept a clean sheet in their last three league games against Chievo (W2, D1).
N. Rigoni
Yellow Card
Chievo
The referee hardly waits long to go into his pocket, but his hand is forced as Nicola Rigoni commits himself to a cynical foul on Eder to stop a quick Inter break following a free-kick of their own.
Nothing to write home about in the early stages with both sides just trying to get their footing and feel each other out. With both teams in such a fragile state coming into the match, the cagey start is hardly much of a surprise.
Underway at San Siro!
Chievo boss Rolando Maran has also made a wealth of changes following another lopsided defeat on the weekend. Andrea Seculin starts ahead of Albano Bizzarri in goal, while three new faces come into defence in the form of Nicolas Spolli, Bostjan Cesar and Massimo Gobbi. Giampiero Pinzi and Sergio Pellissier also return to the starting line-up at the expense of Lucas Castro and Paul-Jose M'Poku.
While Roberto Mancini will be forced to watch on from the stands, his influence is not lost on the match as he makes wholesale changes following their defeat to Milan. Mauro Icardi and Rodrigo Palacio are restored in attack, with Adem Ljajic and Stevan Jovetic proving ineffective in the derby. Ivan Perisic is also surprisingly dropped to the bench, with Geoffrey Kondogbia taking his place in midfield alongside Gary Medel and Marcelo Brozovic. Wing-backs Alex Telles and Yuto Nagatomo come into the team as well, at the expense of Juan Jesus and Davide Santon.
SUBS: M'Poku, Dainelli, Confente, Sardo, Bressan, Castro, Costa, Cacciatore, Damian.
CHIEVO (4-3-1-2): Seculin; Frey, Spolli, Cesar, Gobbi; Rigoni, Radovanovic, Pinzi; Birsa; Inglese, Pellissier.
SUBS: Carrizo, Jesus, Jovetic, Biabiany, Santon, Ljajic, Gnoukouri, D'Ambrosio, Perisic, Melo, Manaj, Correia.
INTER (4-3-3): Handanovic; Nagatomo, Miranda, Murillo, Telles; Brozovic, Medel, Kondogbia; Eder, Palacio, Icardi.
CONFIRMED TEAM NEWS:
Chievo will simply be relishing the fact that they aren’t in a relegation battle this season, or at least not for the time being. Successive losses to Lazio (4-1) and Juventus (4-0) have them reeling at the moment, but they remain in striking distance of the top half of the table. They have played Inter close in recent years and with their opponents trapped in their own bad run of form, Rolando Maran’s side will fancy their chances of adding to the Nerazzurri’s misery.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of Chievo’s trip to San Siro to take on Inter, who will play this match without boss Roberto Mancini on the touchline. The Italian was handed a one-match ban for his antics in the derby loss to Milan on Sunday, in addition to a small fine. The defeat to their bitter rivals was another step in the wrong direction for the Nerazzurri who are coming off back-to-back 3-0 losses against Milan and Juventus. They have little time to lick their wounds, and the short turnaround period should work in their favour as they look to put the wheels back on the wagon with three points this evening.
