Commentary

After a superb Serie A clash, that's all from San Siro. Thank you for joining us and goodbye!
As a measure of the 90 minutes, the possession was shared virtually equally and the two sides each had at least 20 attempts on goal. Even the super-strict referee was particularly active; showing eight yellow cards in a well contested but fairly fought match.
There was barely time to breathe for players and observers alike at San Siro, as Inter and Atalanta played out a thrilling, incident-packed draw, which will ultimately satisfy neither side. The action switched from end to end throughout, and a memorable set of opening goals for both teams will live long in the memory.
90' + 6' FULL-TIME: INTER 2-2 ATALANTA
90' + 5' Dzeko can't get good purchase on a swinging Sanchez cross and heads surely the final chance of the match well wide.
90' + 4' Skriniar does well to get under a dangerous whipped cross from the right and head the ball away, though an offside is then called. This game can still go either way!
M. Satriano
N. Barella
90' + 1' With his final throw of the dice, Inzaghi takes off Barella and on comes Satriano.
R. Tolói
Yellow Card
89' Amid vociferous Atalanta protests at the ruling-out of their 'goal', captain Toloi is the latest man into the referee's notebook.
89' Remarkably, the VAR finds that the ball had already gone marginally out of play in the build-up to Atalanta's potential third goal, so the visitors are awarded only a corner instead.
88' Unbelievable stuff here, as Piccoli now pounces to ram a close-range shot home for what could be the winner, but the VAR has intervened. Are Atalanta destined to win after all?
F. Dimarco
Penalty Miss
86' PENALTY MISSED! Dimarco's attempt thunders onto the crossbar and then into the silenced San Siro stands. It stays 2-2!
85' The spot-kick is awarded for a handball by Demiral inside the six yard area.
84' Late drama at San Siro, as the VAR has been called on to check a possible handball in the Atalanta area. Could Inter be awarded a potentially decisive penalty?
83' Inter substitute Sanchez is dispossessed by Pasalic, who feeds Ilicic on the edge of the box, and the big forward crashes a powerful shot on target - only to be denied by Handanovic's save.
A. Sánchez
Lautaro Martínez
81' Inzaghi makes a switch up front, with Martinez being taken off and Sanchez brought on to make an impact in the final 10 minutes.
M. Pašalić
D. Zappacosta
77' Atalanta make another change, as Zappacosta comes off for his fellow ex-Chelsea man Pasalic in midfield.
76' A chance at the other end now, as Dumfries lays the ball across for Dzeko, but Musso keeps his attempt out at the near post. Breathless stuff!
74' Almost! The visitors' wing-backs combine, as Gosens plays in substitute Maehle, whose low effort zips just wide of the left-hand post.
E. Džeko
Goal
71' INTER ARE LEVEL! Continuing his impressive return to the club, Dimarco finds space on the left and prods a toe-poked effort low at Musso's goal, with the Atalanta goalkeeper only able to palm the ball into Dzeko's path five yards out. The former Roma man slots in for Inter's second and the scores are now tied in this belter of a game! It's Inter 2-2 Atalanta!
J. Mæhle
J. Palomino
70' Palomino has to come off, with Maehle being brought on in his place.
N. Barella
Yellow Card
70' Perhaps out of frustration rather than necessity, Barella brings down Ilicic and earns himself a booking.
68' Palomino stays down after a challenge and has to limp off to the sideline with some help from the Atalanta medics.
66' Ever willing, Martinez chases onto a loose ball 20 yards out, but skews his snap-shot well wide of the target.
D. Zappacosta
Yellow Card
64' Substitute Dimarco is brought down by Zappacosta, earning the latter a yellow card from the referee.
B. Djimsiti
M. Pessina
63' Atalanta may make a change in shape for the final part of the game, as Pessina is withdrawn from midfield and defender Djimsiti is brought on.
R. Piccoli
D. Zapata
63' Zapata has put in a good shift up front, but is now taken off and young Piccoli comes on.
J. Iličić
R. Malinovskyi
62' Star man Malinovskyi is taken off by Gian Piero Gasperini, with Ilicic coming on in his place.
60' Vecino's header at the back post requires Musso to desperately fingertip it over the crossbar, following a Barella cross.
58' Closely marked by Zapata, a static Dzeko can only get under the ball and steers a header from the corner well over the bar.
M. Vecino
H. Çalhanoğlu
57' Vecino is sent on by Inzaghi, with a largely ineffective Calhanoglu making way.
D. Dumfries
M. Darmian
57' Having seen his influence fade, Darmian comes off and Dumfries replaces him on the right for the final half-hour.
F. Dimarco
A. Bastoni
57' Bastoni is withdrawn, as the more attack-minded Dimarco - often a wing-back - comes on in the Inter defence.
55' A self-created opportunity by the battling Martinez is deflected wide of the Atalanta post and earns Inter a corner, as they attempt to regain a foothold in this match.
53' Freuler runs the risk of the referee's wrath by going in late on Bastoni in the Inter half, but only a free-kick is awarded to the home side.
51' OFF THE POST! Now Malinovskyi scuds a free-kick against the bottom of the post, which bounces out to Zapata, who cannot react in time to divert it home. The Colombian striker was ruled offside in any case, but Inter are simply hanging on here.
49' Another near miss for Atalanta sees Palomino's header from the centre of the box miss to the left of the Inter goal - set up by Malinovskyi's cross.
48' GOOD SAVE! Malinovskyi slides in to meet a low Freuler cross from the right, but is denied at the near post by Handanovic. Atalanta or their chief protagonist are showing no signs of slowing in the second half!
47' Should they hold out for the win today, Atalanta would have four wins from six league matches this season; equalling their best total from the first six Serie A matchdays of any previous campaign.
46' We are back under way at the Meazza, with more open, attacking football in prospect during the second half!
Both sides must beware the back pocket of no-nonsense referee Maresca after the interval, as surely only a sending off could deprive us of another riveting 45 minutes of top class Calcio, in the early throes of the Scudetto race.
Atalanta take a richly deserved lead with them down the tunnel for the half-time break, as they recovered from an early Inter blitz to make the most of their many attacking opportunities - with Malinovskyi's wand of a left foot doing the rest. The visitors' passing has been slicker, while their hosts were been sent reeling by a Bergamaschi bombardment in the last 20 minutes of the half.
45' HALF-TIME: INTER 1-2 ATALANTA
H. Çalhanoğlu
Yellow Card
43' Considering referee Fabio Maresca's propensity for bookings, Calhanoglu dives into an ill-advised challenge on Freuler and receives a yellow card.
41' Inter are on the ropes, as another Atalanta corner - swung in by Malinovskyi - is eventually cleared amid intense pressure from several white shirts.
R. Tolói
Goal
38' ATALANTA LEAD! The irrepressible Malinovskyi is at it again, as his swerving shot at the centre of the goal can only be repelled by Handanovic, allowing centre-back Toloi to pounce and fire in the away side's second. Superb stuff from the Bergamaschi, who fully merit their advantage: Inter 1-2 Atalanta!
36' This has developed into the fascinating duel we all hoped it would be, as either side throws attack after attack at the other, Atalanta are growing in confidence all the time.
34' Bastoni steps across with great anticipation to deny an Atalanta attack from reaching fruition, following a cute through ball from the influential Gosens.
32' Already on a booking, De Roon clumsily brings down Barella high up on the left flank, but only a free-kick is awarded to the hosts.
R. Malinovskyi
Goal
30' WHAT A SCREAMER! A trademark strike from Malinovskyi arrows past the despairing dive of Handanovic and nestles into the right side of the Inter net. Thumped in from more than 20 yards, the Ukrainian's left-footer was unstoppable and brings the sides level at 1-1!
27' Effortlessly switching the play from left to right, Malinovskyi finds the on-rushing Zappacosta, whose cut-back is headed awkwardly over by Zapata.
25' Brozovic is called upon to intervene deep inside his own half, as Atalanta earn another corner. From the cross, the ball breaks to Pessina, whose scuffed shot is palmed behind by Handanovic. The visitors are certainly posing a serious threat, but no clear chances so far.
23' JUST WIDE! Excellent hold-up play from Zapata tees up De Roon for a crack at goal from just outside the area, and the Dutchman drives his strike just past the left post and thundering into the advertising hoardings.
22' Calhanoglu's effort from the set-piece crashes straight into the wall, allowing Atalanta to regain their composure.
D. Zapata
Yellow Card
21' Another yellow card is flashed, as Zapata goes into the book for dissent at the award of Inter's free-kick.
J. Palomino
Yellow Card
19' As Dzeko runs through dangerously for the hosts, Palomino clips his heel and brings the big striker tumbling to the turf - the card-happy referee makes his third booking already!
17' After a series of Atalanta corners, Gosens gets his head to a Malinovskyi cross in the centre of the box, but finds his effort is blocked.
14' Before today's game, Inter had lost just one of their last nine league games against Atalanta, keeping a clean sheet on five occasions. Furthermore, Atalanta have lost five of their last seven Serie A matches against the Nerazzurri at San Siro.
A. Bastoni
Yellow Card
12' Bastoni becomes the first home player booked, following a foul on Pessina inside his own half.
11' A free-kick from an advantageous position on the right is wasted by Malinovskyi, who curls his high left-footed cross straight into the outstretched hands of Handanovic.
9' Having bought himself space just inside the area, Dzeko overruns the ball, allowing Musso to pounce and deprive him of a clear shot at goal. Inter are well on top at San Siro!
8' Malinovskyi's right-footed shot from outside the box goes close but misses to the left side of Handanovic's goal, after a pass from Gosens.
N. Barella
Assist
5' A delightful run down the right and precision cross from Barella allows Martinez to strike Inter's opening goal.
Lautaro Martínez
Goal
5' INTER TAKE THE LEAD! The champions are off to a flyer, as Barella curls in a delicious cross for Martinez to latch on to with a sliding volley, which crashes into the back of the Atalanta net. Already, the hosts have an advantage: it's 1-0 to Inter!
R. Malinovskyi
Yellow Card
4' Malinovskyi the first man into the referee's book for a late challenge on Darmian, as he catches the flying wing-back on the foot with his studs.
2' SO CLOSE! Inter almost lead when Dzeko's cross-field pass is returned into the box by Darmian, with the ball eventually breaking to the Bosnian striker at the back post. However, his side-footed effort bounces down and just wide of Musso's goal. That was a let-off for Atalanta.
1' We are under way in Milan, as this eagerly awaited Lombardy derby gets up and running!
The teams are filing out onto the pitch at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza - we are moments away from kick-off!
Inter name Martinez and Dzeko as their strike partnership once again today; an almost inevitable decision for coach Simone Inzaghi as alternative option Joaquin Correa is still suffering with a pelvis injury. Barella is also fit to face Atalanta despite going off injured against Fiorentina in midweek, as his thigh problem was not as serious as initially feared. The visitors, meanwhile, have both Luis Muriel and Hans Hateboer unavailable through injury, so Zapata starts up front in the absence of his Colombian compatriot and Zappacosta continues at wing-back.
SUBS: Marco Sportiello, Giuseppe Pezzella, Francesco Rossi, Roberto Piccoli, Berat Djimsiti, Aleksey Miranchuk, Josip Ilicic, Mario Pasalic, Matteo Lovato, Teun Koopmeiners, Joakim Maehle.
ATALANTA (3-4-2-1): Juan Musso; Rafael Toloi, Jose Luis Palomino, Merih Demiral; Davide Zappacosta, Remo Freuler, Marten de Roon, Robin Gosens; Matteo Pessina, Ruslan Malinovskyi; Duvan Zapata.
SUBS: Alex Cordaz, Danilo D'Ambrosio, Alexis Sanchez, Mattia Sangalli, Martín Satriano, Denzel Dumfries, Aleksandar Kolarov, Federico Dimarco, Roberto Gagliardini, Andrea Ranocchia, Matias Vecino, Ionut Radu.
INTER (3-5-2): Samir Handanovic; Stefan de Vrij, Alessandro Bastoni, Milan Skriniar; Matteo Darmian, Hakan Calhanoglu, Marcelo Brozovic, Nicolo Barella, Ivan Perisic; Lautaro Martínez, Edin Dzeko.
A typical trait of Atalanta's attacking approach, wing-backs Robin Gosens and Davide Zappacosta were both on target in the first half of their midweek fixture. Although Sassuolo pulled a goal back before the break and had chances to equalise, La Dea ultimately ran out 2-1 winners at the Gewiss Stadium.
A second-half comeback brought about by Matteo Darmian's 52nd-minute goal helped Inter turn the tide after a difficult first half against Fiorentina - with Edin Dzeko soon adding another before Ivan Perisic's late third in a 3-1 win. As a result, the Nerazzurri have now scored in 24 league matches in a row - matching a club record set over 70 years ago.
Italian champions Inter will tackle the toughest test of their Scudetto defence so far today, as they welcome the Bergamaschi to Milan for a Lombardy derby. Both sides won in midweek, to keep them in the mix at the sharp end of the Serie A standings.
Hello and welcome to coverage of Inter's Serie A encounter with local rivals Atalanta at San Siro!
