Gor Mahia suffered a shock 1-0 loss to Vihiga United in an FKF Premier League game played at Kasarani Stadium on Saturday.
Denis Wafula scored the lone goal late into the game to ensure K'Ogalo went home empty-handed.
The reigning champions came into the match aiming at getting their third win in a row. Prior to the game, they had managed to defeat Mathare United and Western Stima.
They came into the match as favourites considering the fact that their opponents have struggled for consistency this season. They had collected just two points from their last five league games.
K'Ogalo had managed to collect two wins from the previous four meetings with the Western-based side, drawing once and losing once as well.
It was a tight first half as Vihiga employed a cautious approach, sitting back and trying to hit their hosts with counter-attacks.
K'Ogalo were frustrated in the first 45 minutes and at the end of it, none of the two teams managed to get the opening goal.
The visitors started the second half better and they could have taken a lead early after the break, but David Simiyu missed a great opportunity in a prime position.
Tito Okello was introduced to help sharpen the attacking department and the towering forward had an immediate impact, helping to put the Vihiga defenders on their toes, but he could not capitalise on two chances he had.
The champions dominated, but they could not break down the resilient Vihiga defence.
With four minutes to go, the Sammy Okoth-led charges created a chance - Wafula managed to keep his cool to hand his team their second win in the nine league matches.
In another game played on Saturday, Posta Rangers and Ulinzi Stars settled tfor a goalless draw.
