Ulinzi Stars handed Gor Mahia a fourth straight defeat in all competitions following a 2-0 win on Wednesday.
Gor Mahia had lost to USM Alger in the Caf Confederation Cup then went down to Kariobangi Sharks in the FKF Shield quarter-final, before falling to Thika United on Sunday in a league match.
Key K'Ogalo players led by captain Haron Shakava, Joash Onyango, Humphrey Mieno, Earnest Wendo, Francis Kahata, George Odhiambo and Samuel Onyango opted out of the game even as players continued with their protest over unpaid August salary.
Early signs were not encouraging for the KPL champions, who have not trained at all this week. They could have conceded in the 13th minute when a reckless pass fell to Enosh Ochieng, who unfortunately, failed to make use of that chance and Gor Mahia defenders recovered n time to clear the danger.
Three minutes later, the soldiers once again found their way in the ‘Green Army's’ danger zone-Peter Odhiambo lost track of the ball, but Charles Momanyi was in goal to clear the danger on the line.
Those were worrying signs for the Dylan Kerr led side but a warning as well. Innocent Wafula did well from the left, going past several defenders, but made the wrong decision. Instead of cutting the ball back, he went for the shot that could not hit the target.
Barely a minute later, Wesley Onguso managed to find Ivorian Ephraim Guikan in the danger zone, but the diminutive forward could not guide the ball into the net with goalkeeper Timothy Odhiambo well beaten.
The goal finally came in favour of the visitors a few minutes to the break. Fredrick Odhiambo parried the ball on the way of Elvis Nandwa and the latter took the chance with both hands with the opener.
Three minutes after the break, the forward doubled the advantage after the defenders failed to track his run. Gor Mahia continued pushing for a goal, but Guikan was denied by the post after taking a first time shot from about twelve yards out.
The biggest miss of the game fell to Masita Masuta who rounded off the goalkeeper and had the easiest of tasks, just guiding the ball into an empty net. Surprisingly, he guided it against the post.
The inspired Timothy Odhiambo was called into action again with twenty minutes to go; Wellington Ochieng brought in a perfect free kick from the right, he found Innocent Wafula whose header seemed destined to hit the back of the net, but the custodian was not in the mood of conceding.
