Commentary

Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
Next up for Juventus is a home match in Serie A against Cagliari, while Empoli face Napoli on the road next Friday.
Juventus survive a scare on the road to produce a comeback win over Empoli thanks to a second-half brace from Cristiano Ronaldo. The league leaders were down 1-0 at the break as Francesco Caputo scored a fine goal to put the home side ahead at the Carlo Castellani. Massimiliano Allegri's men responded after the interval, applying pressure on the Empoli goal that was rewarded when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Paulo Dybala. Ronaldo converted from 12 yards to notch the equaliser and then won the game for his team with a brilliant strike from the edge of the box, powering his effort into the top corner. The goal was enough to secure the narrow victory, maintaining Juve's unbeaten record this term.
90' + 5' FULL-TIME: EMPOLI 1-2 JUVENTUS

90' + 5' Dybala fouls Bennacer. Empoli have one final chance to lift a cross into the box as Provedel comes forward from the back.
90' + 4' OVER! Pasqual's delivery causes problems for the visitors as they scramble the ball away. A second cross reaches Caputo to strike on the edge of the box and he hooks his effort narrowly over the bar.
90' + 3' Bentancur brings down Krunic on the left flank. The home side will have one final chance to lift a delivery into the box.
S. Uçan
Yellow Card
90' + 1' Ucan protests against a free-kick awarded against Krunic for a challenge on Barzagli on the edge of the box. The referee does not appreciate the appeal and books the Empoli forward.
90' + 1' Bonucci makes two important clearances at the back for the visitors, heading set-pieces from Pasqual to safety. Juve are closing in on the three points.
90' There will be four minutes of added time.
A. Barzagli
M. De Sciglio
90' Barzagli replaces De Sciglio for the closing stages of the game.
89' Ronaldo collects in the box and tries to beat the challenge of Silvestre. He goes down, but the referee is not interested in his appeal for a penalty.
88' Krunic runs at Bonucci on the edge of the box and finds space to fire at goal, but he fails to muster any power on his strike, allowing Szczesny to make the stop.
87' Juve are trying to take the pace out of the game, but as long as the deficit remains only at one goal there's hope for the home side.
85' Di Lorenzo collects in a decent position down the right flank and he floats a cross to the back post. Ucan rises with De Sciglio, who has to head behind for a corner.
83' Krunic collects in a dangerous position, but goes for the wrong option by sliding a pass towards La Gumina. The forward does not expect the offload into the left inside channel and it forces him to stretch to keep the ball in play. Pasqual delivers a cross to the back post that sees Szczesny claim with ease.
A. La Gumina
H. Traorè
82' Traore makes way in the closing stages for La Gumina.
82' Empoli have put a lot of effort into the game. The question is whether they have enough left in the tank to put Juve under a spell of pressure to force a point?
Douglas Costa
M. Pjanić
80' Douglas Costa replaces Pjanic for the visitors.
79' Cuadrado surges into the right inside channel and he cuts a dangerous ball back into the middle that just evades Ronaldo, allowing the home side to clear away.
P. Dybala
Yellow Card
78' Clumsy from Dybala as he loses possession and pulls back Krunic, resulting in a booking for the Argentine.
77' Juventus are trying to take the pace out of the game. There's no need for them to overcommit in the final third at this stage.
S. Uçan
M. Zajc
75' Ucan replaces Zajc for the home side to give them fresh impetus in the final third.
74' Although they've been plucky this evening, Empoli may need a reshuffle to spark a potential revival. They've looked short of ideas in the second half.
72' Empoli don't deserve to be behind in the game, but Juve have stepped up their levels of play in the second half. Ronaldo's finishing gives the league leaders a huge advantage in every contest and it has been decisive this evening.
B. Matuidi
Assist
70' Matuidi slides a simple offload into the path of Ronaldo, who does the rest with his sublime finish.
Cristiano Ronaldo
Goal
70' GOALLLLLLLLLLL!!!! RONALDO SCORES A STUNNER!!! 2-1 JUVENTUS!!! The Portuguese notches his second of the game to put his team ahead. He collected Matuidi's offload outside the box on the right flank before pulling the trigger on his strike. His effort soared beyond the reach of Provedel and into the top corner. A superb goal from Ronaldo.
M. Pasqual
L. Antonelli
69' Pasqual replaces Antonelli for the visitors as the full-back was struggling with an injury.
67' BLOCK! Krunic makes a rare foray forward in the second half. He goes for the strike at goal that almost deflects into the path of Caputo in the box, but Bonucci is alert to clear the danger ahead of the forward on the slide.
J. Cuadrado
F. Bernardeschi
66' Cuadrado is called from the bench to replace Bernardeschi. There will be opportunities for the winger against the tiring Empoli legs.
64' Alex Sandro is afforded space and time in the final third to whip a cross into the box. Ronaldo positions himself at the back post, but Antonelli heads away from the Portuguese with a solid clearance.
62' Provedel does well for the home side to gather De Sciglio's cross from the right ahead of the lurking presence of Dybala.
60' Empoli managed to put Juve under pressure with their attacking players in the first half. They've been reserved in the second half, putting further strain on their backline.
H. Traorè
Yellow Card
58' Traore goes into the book for a loose challenge on Bernardeschi.
56' The visitors are starting to turn the screw in the final third. Bernardeschi and Dybala are dropping into space to cause a host of problems for Empoli at the back.
Cristiano Ronaldo
Penalty Goal
54' GOALLLLLLL!!! RONALDO FINDS THE NET! 1-1!! The Portuguese holds his composure from 12 yards, drilling his right-footed strike into the bottom corner as Provedel guessed incorrectly.
52' PENALTY TO JUVENTUS! Bennacer brings down Dybala in the box with a clumsy challenge and the referee points to the spot.
51' Juve have come out for the second half with a ferocious reaction. The home side have to do their utmost to ride out this spell of pressure from Allegri's men.
49' OVER! Alex Sandro has space down the left and he floats a cross into the box for Bernardeschi to attack with a header, only to glance his attempt over the bar. The winger had time there to at least put his effort on target.
48' CHANCES! Juve win a corner and the home side fail to clear the loose ball from the box. Bentancur collects at the back post and hammers an effort towards the near post, only to be denied by a fine save from Provedel. The visitors keep the attack alive and Pjanic hits a left-footed effort across the face of goal, only to see his strike hit the bar and bounce to safety. A huge slice of luck for Empoli.
46' We're back underway in this Serie A contest.
Juve were downright poor in the first half as they went through the motions. They've barely tested Ivan Provedel in the Empoli goal, while their defending has been lackadaisical at the back. The late change to the line-up will have not made life easy on the visitors as Daniele Rugani replaced Giorgio Chiellini, but Empoli have had too much time on the ball in the final third. Going forward Juve have get Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala into the game as they've been relative non-factors thus far.
Empoli are on course for a memorable victory over Juventus this evening as Francesco Caputo's goal has sent them into the interval with a half-time lead. The home side did not back down from the reigning champions in the first half and their fearless play was rewarded on a counter when Caputo curled his effort into the top corner in the 28th minute. Aurelio Andreazzoli's men have moved the ball well in the final third, capitalising on the loose play from the visitors. They need to maintain their standards in the second period.
45' + 3' HALF-TIME: EMPOLI 1-0 JUVENTUS
R. Bentancur
Yellow Card
45' + 3' Bentancur cynically pulls back Krunic from raiding further into the Juve half. The midfielder goes into the book for the challenge just before the half ends.
45' + 2' Provedel quells the danger from the second Pjanic delivery, coming through the crowd to claim the cross.
45' + 1' Juve put the pressure on with a couple of crosses into the box. Silvestre makes the first block before Acquah heads over at the near post from Pjanic's corner.
45' There will be two minutes of added time.
45' The referee wanted a second look at Bonucci's block for the apparent use of his hand, but it deemed it accidental as his arm was locked close to his body.
44' Juve fail to close down the home side in the final third and Zajc is afforded space and time to shoot at goal. Bonucci makes the block and it travels through for Szczesny to make the save.
F. Bernardeschi
Yellow Card
43' Bernardeschi is booked for bringing down Krunic on the charge.
42' Acquah leads another break from the back and he offloads into the path of Zajc on the edge of the box. The Empoli forward opts against the early strike and tries to beat Bonucci, but he gets crowded out before he can probe further into the penalty area.
41' Bernardeschi gives away a free-kick on the left flank for a challenge on Antonelli. Bennacer lifts the resulting free-kick into the box and Di Lorenzo is inches away from making contact at the near post. Juve have not been convincing at the back.
39' SAVE! Alex Sandro raids down the left flank and sends a cross into the box for Ronaldo to leap and head at goal. The Portuguese does not make solid contact with his effort, allowing Provedel to make a comfortable save.
38' Allegri will not be happy man on the sideline. His side are going through the motions this evening.
36' Bernardeschi whips a delivery into the box with pace from a short corner. Provedel is proactive for his team by coming off his line to punch to safety.
36' BLOCK! Ronaldo lines up his strike, but can only blast his effort into the wall. It deflects off the blue shirts and behind for a corner.
35' Bennacer brings down Ronaldo on the charge, handing Juve a free-kick within range of the Portuguese.
33' Juve are not having the play all their own way in the contest. Their passing and finishing in the final third has not been up to its usual standard.
31' OVER! Ronaldo sees his free-kick blocked before Dybala scoops the ball over the bar on the rebound with a left-footed strike.
30' Alex Sandro wins a free-kick from a loose challenge from Di Lorenzo. Ronaldo will line up this effort from the left flank.
R. Krunić
Assist
28' Krunic does enough to guide Acquah's cross back into the feet of Caputo, who does the rest with a fine finish.
F. Caputo
Goal
28' GOALLLLLLL!!!! EMPOLI TAKE THE LEAD!! CAPUTO SCORES WITH A FINE STRIKE!!! 1-0! The home side put themselves in front with a good move on the counter finished in style by Caputo. Acquah led his team out from the back with a driving run down the right flank. His low cross into the middle was not cleared properly by the Juve backline. Caputo pounced on Krunic's knockback in the right inside channel, curling his effort beyond the reach of Szczesny into the top corner.
27' CLOSE! Alex Sandro breaks down the left flank and fires a low cross into the box. Silvestre makes the intercetion, but it almost travels into the bottom corner. The defender is relieved to see it trickle past the post and out for a corner.
26' SAVE! Pjanic curls the ball into the box and Alex Sandro makes a run to head at goal towards the near post, but Provedel is well placed to make a comfortable save.
25' Traore brings down Dybala in the Empoli half and it will give the visitors an opportunity to float a cross into the box. Bernardeschi and Pjanic are over the ball.
24' Empoli are building in confidence in the final third. Krunic collects and turns on the edge of the box, although he can only fire a tame left-footed strike at Szczesny.
23' Rugani has a nervous moment as he scuffs his clearance from Di Lorenzo's cross. Fortunately for him, De Sciglio is on hand to mop up the danger at the back post.
22' Caputo breaks into the right inside channel and tests Rugani, but the defender stops the cross and the deflection catches the leg of the Empoli forward before travelling behind to earn Juve a goal-kick.
20' CHANCE! Empoli win a corner down the right and Krunic swings a dangerous delivery into the box, but Silvestre in the middle cannot make clean contact with his header in the six-yard area.
18' Pjanic bends two dangerous crosses into the box from the left flank, but Empoli hold firm in the six-yard box amid pressure from the league leaders.
17' Maietta returns to the pitch for the hosts in the middle of the line.
17' Alex Sandro probes down the left flank once again and he places another cross into the box, but Silvestre is there to clear behind for the home side.
16' Maietta is caught late by Alex Sandro and requires treatment before we can continue.
15' Alex Sandro turns on the jets down the left flank and he fires a low ball across the face of goal that evades Dybala, Ronaldo and Bernardeschi at the back post.
13' OVER! Zajc should do better with his attempt from the edge of the box as he latches on to a loose ball, only to hammer his effort over the bar.
12' The home side are not backing down from the challenge of Juve and are having spells of pressure of their own, but they've yet to test Szczesny.
10' WIDE! Juve work the ball around the final third before Pjanic drops his shoulder on the edge of the box to curl a strike towards goal. The midfielder makes decent contact, although his effort does not have the bend on it to find the bottom corner.
9' Dybala wins possession in the Empoli half and drives towards goal before taking on the shot from 25 yards. The Argentine gets power behind his effort, but not the accuracy, blazing it well over th bar.
8' The home side win a corner and Juve fail to clear the danger from the edge of the box. Anontelli has space and time to fire at goal, but he opts for the offload and fails to pick out Krunic in the box.
7' Ronaldo lines up his effort of the game as he goes for goal from 30 yards on the left flank, only to hammer his attempt harmlessly over the bar.
6' Pjanic sends a delivery towards the near post on this occasion and Alex Sandro makes a move to head at goal, but he places his effort straight at Provedel.
5' Pjanic curls a corner deep to the back post and Provedel flaps at the cross. It travels behind without touching an Empoli player, but the referee still awards another corner for the visitors.
3' Juve are encamped in the Empoli half in the early stages of the game. The pressure has been applied to the home side immediately.
1' We're underway in this Serie A clash.
The players are out on the pitch, so we should be underway shortly. Juve have been dealt a blow in the warm-up as Chiellini has suffered an injury and will miss the game. He has been replaced in the back four by Rugani.
Empoli’s last Serie A win against Juventus came back in April 1999 (1-0 at the Castellani) – since then the Bianconeri have won 12 times, drawing twice against Empoli.
Juventus have made two changes to their side that beat Manchester United during the week. Bernardeschi and De Sciglio come into the team down the right flank to replace Cancelo and Cuadrado, who start from the bench after a heavy workload at Old Trafford. Mandzukic remains sidelined due to inury.
Empoli have made two changes to their side from their draw against Frosinone. Traore and Bennacer come into the side in the middle of the park, replacing Capezzi and La Gumina, who drop to the bench this afternoon.
SUBS: Medhi Benatia, Douglas Costa, Andrea Barzagli, Juan Cuadrado, Moise Kean, Joao Cancelo, Carlo Pinsoglio, Mattia Perin, Leonardo Spinazzola.
JUVENTUS (4-4-2): Wojciech Szczesny; Mattia De Sciglio, Leonardo Bonucci, Daniele Rugani, Alex Sandro; Federico Bernardeschi, Miralem Pjanic, Rodrigo Bentancur, Blaise Matuidi; Paulo Dybala, Cristiano Ronaldo.
SUBS: Matteo Brighi, Arnel Jakupovic, Antonino La Gumina, Pietro Terracciano, Manuel Pasqual, Joel Untersee, Leonardo Capezzi, Michal Marcjanik, Jacob Rasmussen, Salih Ucan, Samuel Mraz, Andrea Fulignati.
EMPOLI (4-3-2-1): Ivan Provedel; Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Matias Silvestre, Domenico Maietta, Luca Antonelli; Afriyie Acquah, Hamed Traore, Ismael Bennacer; Miha Zajc, Rade Krunic; Francesco Caputo.
Juventus come into the game fresh off their victory over Manchester United in the Champions League during the week. Paulo Dybala's strike was enough for the Bianconeri on the road and they will use the momentum from their win to continue their march onwards in Serie A. Their 100% record came to an end last time out in the league as Genoa earned a point in Turin. Massimiliano Allegri will be looking for a response from his players to the minor setback today. Empoli are embroiled in a battle at the bottom of the table, having won only one game since the start of the campaign. The club sit in 18th place, with six points to their name, although they're winless in their last eight matches. Aurelio Andreazzoli's side played out a thrilling 3-3 draw against Frosinone last time out, but they will need to be flawless this afternoon to stand a chance against the league leaders.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Serie A clash between Empoli and Juventus at the Carlo Castellani.
