Commentary

That's all from a stunned Stade Gabriel Montpied, so thank you for joining us and goodbye!
Surely buoyed by their impressive efforts today, PSG next take to the field in the latest edition of Le Classique, renewing their bitter rivalry with Marseille at the Parc des Princes. Still deep in trouble at the wrong end of the Ligue 1 standings, Clermont are also in action next Sunday: facing a potentially decisive tussle with fellow strugglers Metz.
A display of sublime artistry and surprisingly selfless interplay sees champions-elect PSG stride on towards the title, though their huge margin of victory only came about due to a rapid acceleration in the closing stages. With the outcome still very much in the balance at 2-1 to the visitors with 20 minutes to go, Mbappe earned a penalty - subsequently converted by Neymar - and a rampant Paris side then ran away with the points. Mbappe hit a wonderful hat-trick, Messi managed a trio of assists, while Neymar bagged three goals and was intermittently at his irrepressible best, making it a game to remember despite the lopsided scoreline.
90' + 2' FULL-TIME: CLERMONT 1-6 PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN
F. Ogier
J. Billong
90' Billong is given some respite from the PSG onslaught, as Ogier replaces him for the final moments.
88' SAVE! Mbappe is denied a fourth goal by Desmas, who gets across his goal smartly to palm away the France striker's powerful drive. PSG have a corner, and Clermont survive further humiliation - for now.
E. Ebimbe
A. Hakimi
86' PSG's final substitution sees Dina Ebimbe replace Hakimi.
Juan Bernat
Nuno Mendes
85' Bernat replaces Tavares at left-back.
E. Michut
M. Verratti
85' Pochettino takes the chance to rest some players, with the points secured. First, Verratti comes off for Michut in midfield.
Oriol Busquets
M. Bayo
84' Clermont respond to their collapse with another change: Bayo makes way for the more defensive option of Busquets.
K. Mbappé
Assist
83' Mbappe coolly slots the ball back across the box, unselfishly picking out Neymar to score PSG's sixth.
Neymar
Goal
83' SIX FOR PARIS! From nowhere, the visitors suddenly lead by five, as Mbappe turns provider for Neymar to strike home from close range past the disillusioned Desmas. 6-1 PSG!
L. Messi
Assist
80' A hat-trick of assists for Messi! He sets up Mbappe again, with a sharp pass into feet from the right side of the box.
K. Mbappé
Goal
80' MBAPPE HAT-TRICK! Right at the top of his game now, Mbappe nets his third goal of the game, with a curling finish into the top-right corner from the edge of the box. Yet again, Messi provided the assist, but the clinical finish comes from his younger team-mate. Now, it's 5-1 to PSG!
T. Kehrer
P. Kimpembe
79' For the final few minutes, Kimpembe is rested. Kehrer will be his replacement.
76' Clearly keen to get in on the goalscoring action, Messi strikes a shot from the centre of the area just over the top-left corner, following a lightning-fast break by Hakimi.
Neymar
Assist
74' A truly special moment of magic from Neymar sees the controversial forward at his very best - floating a brilliant throughball into Mbappe for his colleague to score.
K. Mbappé
Goal
74' MBAPPE DOUBLES UP! Another world class exhibition opens up the Clermont defence, as Neymar's exquisite outside-of-the-foot pass drops over Mbappe's shoulder and into the striker's path. Without hesitation, he pulls the ball down and skips around Desmas to roll the ball into an empty net from close range. 4-1 PSG!
Neymar
Penalty Goal
71' PSG STRIKE THREE! From the spot, Neymar strokes the ball into the left side of the net, after taking a typically staggered run-up to the ball. Desmas is well beaten, and Paris lead 3-1!
J. Gastien
Yellow Card
70' For his protestations about the penalty award, Clermont captain Gastien is shown a yellow card.
69' PENALTY TO PSG! The visitors have a chance to seal it from the spot, as Zedadka desperately slides in on Mbappe deep inside the area and concedes a clear penalty!
G. Wijnaldum
I. Gueye
67' PSG make a switch in central midfield, as Wijnaldum comes on for Gueye.
L. Da Cunha
S. Khaoui
67' Khaoui is the third man substituted; Da Cunha is brought on.
G. Kyei
J. Berthomier
67' The impressive Berthomier sees his shift brought to an early conclusion, as Kyei comes on in his place.
J. Allevinah
J. Dossou
66' Clermont have opted for a triple change, as they attempt to salvage something from this game. First, Dossou makes way for Allevinah.
63' Messi and Mbappe combine thrillingly inside the Clermont area, and the former stands up an inviting cross from the left byline for the Argentinian maestro to head home from close range. The celebrations are cut short, though, as the ball apparently just went out of play.
61' SAVE! Ending a spell of pressure, Magnin clips through a delightful pass for Berthomier, who volleys goalward from the edge of the box - Donnarumma has to dive sharply to repel the midfielder's effort. So close to an equaliser for Clermont!
59' MISS! After Verratti and Messi combine on the right, the latter picks out Neymar once again, but his shot from the left side of the box is aimless - flying wide of the far post. That was a good chance to score the all-important third.
57' Just over half an hour away from continuing an impressive record, Paris are the only Ligue 1 side still unbeaten against teams inside the bottom half of the table this season - previously playing 15; winning 14 and drawing one.
55' After PSG captain Kimpembe concedes a corner, the cross ultimately drops to Khaoui, who swipes at a left-footed shot from just outside the box. It flies high and wide to the left of Donnarumma's goal.
Neymar
Yellow Card
53' Clearly riled by Maignan's challenge on him going unpunished by a yellow card, Neymar charges into a needless challenge with Zedadka and is booked.
52' Zedadka does well to shepherd Neymar out of shooting range on the left side of the box, after Messi's pass is overhit. From the corner, Ramos gets under the ball and can only turn his header wide of the right post.
50' A number of Paris players convene in protest around the referee, as Neymar lies prone on the turf. Magnin's challenge on the Brazil forward is punished only by a free-kick, however, which the visitors fail to make anything of.
48' A more leisurely tempo to the opening stages of the second half sees PSG back in control, with Clermont sitting back inside their own half trying to maintain their shape.
46' We are back under way at Stade Gabriel Montpied!
After the concession of another goal today, not since October's Classique clash with Marseille have PSG kept a clean sheet away from home in Ligue 1. As Pochettino's side have also won only one of their last seven away matches in the French top flight, they will surely not be complacent about retaining their slim advantage until the final whistle.
A superb opening 20 minutes saw PSG at their boldest and best, with some precise interplay by their attacking trio repeatedly unlocking the Clermont back door - resulting in two impressive goals; Messi assisting both. However, as the Parisians' intensity waned just a little in the final stages of the half, the hosts finally established a foothold, and were able to take advantage by answering with a smartly-worked strike of their own. Therefore, all is still to play for after the break.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: CLERMONT 1-2 PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN
45' + 1' With the last kick of the half, Berthomier overhits an inswinging free-kick from the left, which rolls out of play past the right post.
44' SAVE! As if offended by conceding a goal to such modest opposition, Neymar immediately steps up another gear, and his powerful shot from the centre of the area has to be saved in the bottom-left corner by an alert Desmas. Once again, Mbappe was involved in the build-up.
J. Dossou
Goal
42' CLERMONT STRIKE BACK! The hosts reduce their arrears! A delightful pass from Berthomier finds Khaoui charging towards the right byline, with Ramos left flat-footed, and Dossou arrives with perfect timing to turn the ball in at the far post. Clermont 1-2 PSG!
39' With a wild attempt, Gueye slashes a shot from outside the box high and wide of the right post - that was an awful attempt.
37' Gueye brings down Gastien on the right flank, and from the resultant free-kick, Donnarumma attempts to punch clear to safety inside the box, but is just beaten to it by Ramos' head.
35' The home side are growing into the game, and in their latest forward move, Magnin tries to slide a ball through for Dossou, who is caught offside.
33' Stretching every sinew to reach a Zedadka cross from out on the right flank, Berthomier can only make insufficient contact with his header near the penalty spot, and the ball drifts harmlessly wide of Donnarumma's goal.
32' Desmas claims comfortably at the back post, after an inswinging Messi corner from the right is struck just too firmly. The goalkeeper then sets up a Clermont counter-attack.
30' Just when it looks like the visitors might be in for a third, when Mbappe's clever throughball picks out Hakimi unmarked on the right side of the area, the latter is caught offside and Clermont are spared.
28' With 68 per cent of possession and a 93 per cent passing accuracy rate, Paris are by far the dominant force in the opening half-hour.
26' Bayo plays in Dossou on the right, but his shot from the edge of the box is blocked by a discipline visiting defence, who have largely been untroubled in the first quarter of this game.
24' Following his goal today, Mbappe has scored 31 of PSG's 66 Ligue 1 goals this term, with only Monaco's Wissam Ben Yedder netting a greater proportion of his team's goals throughout the French top flight.
22' PSG are purring here, as they close down high up the field with intent and stroke the ball about rhythmically. If they keep this up, Clermont could be in for a tough 90 minutes.
20' On the break, Berthomier tries a throughball to Dossou, but the Clermont winger is caught just offside.
L. Messi
Assist
19' Messi has his second assist of the match; effortlessly controlling the ball with his chest and flicking it into the path of Mbappe to score.
K. Mbappé
Goal
19' MBAPPE DOES IT AGAIN! PSG's superstar triumvirate combine with sublime skill to provide their side with a wonderful second goal: Neymar clipping in a cross from the left, which Messi chests down and guides into Mbappe's path. The French forward does not hesitate in sliding the ball home past a stranded Desmas, and Paris lead 2-0!
16' Today's is only the third match in all competitions between Clermont and Paris Saint-Germain. CF63 infamously knocked PSG out of the Coupe de France back in 1997 (drawing 4-4, then going through with a 4-3 penalty shootout win), while they were beaten 4-0 last September in the French capital,
13' CLOSE! Neymar returns the favour, as the Brazilian forward feeds Messi just outside the area. However, the latter's right-footed shot from 20 yards out flies narrowly over the crossbar.
11' In their first raid forward, Clermont see Dossou denied from a tight angle on the right side of the box - Donnarumma making a routine save low down at his near post.
9' THE GOAL STANDS! After some lengthy analysis of the evidence, the VAR decides that there was no obvious foul by Mbappe before the goal: PSG's lead is finally confirmed!
7' VAR CHECK! Following the goal, the VAR has now intervened. Was there a trip by Mbappe just before Neymar's cool finish?
L. Messi
Assist
6' A neat reverse pass from Messi, following persistent work by Danilo in the build-up, sets up Neymar to strike.
Neymar
Goal
6' PSG LEAD! Capitalising on their early supremacy, the visitors go in front through Neymar, who takes a low pass from Messi into his stride, takes a touch and then fires the ball into the back of the net from the edge of the six-yard box. Already, it's Clermont 0-1 PSG!
4' Under pressure, the recalled Desmas miskicks a clearance straight into touch, but Paris cannot take advantage of their territorial gain.
2' Immediately quietening a lively home crowd, PSG take complete control in the early moments of the match, as Messi just overhits a throughball towards Neymar in the area.
1' We are under way at Stade Gabriel Montpied!
The players are out on the pitch, under the floodlights in Clermont, and kick-off is now just moments away!
PSG have a host of absentees today, with Julian Draxler unlikely to return this season after undergoing knee surgery, Leandro Paredes out of commission following a hernia operation, and Angel di Maria, Ander Herrera and Keylor Navas all ruled out too. Pochettino has also rested Marquinhos, so Ramos is brought into the back four. Once again, in-form Mbappe starts alongside Neymar and Messi up front.
After his dismissal last week, Ghanaian midfielder Salis Abdul Samed serves a suspension; joining Clermont coach Paul Gastien - also banned today - on the sidelines. Vital N'Simba misses out due to a calf problem, but Lucas Da Cunha and captain Johan Gastien have both recovered from COVID-19 in time to start. Having scored 13 of his team's 30 league goals this term, Bayo leads the line up front.
SUBS: Alexandre Letellier, El Chadaille Bitshiabu, Georginio Wijnaldum, Thilo Kehrer, Mauro Icardi, Colin Dagba, Juan Bernat, Eric Ebimbe, Edouard Michut.
PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN (4-3-3): Gianluigi Donnarumma; Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Ramos, Presnel Kimpembe, Nuno Mendes; Danilo Pereira, Marco Verratti, Idrissa Gueye; Lionel Messi, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe.
SUBS: Ouparine Djoco, Jerome Phojo, Oriol Busquets, Lucas Da Cunha, Florent Ogier, Josue Albert, Grejohn Kyei, Jim Allevinah, Nael Jaby.
CLERMONT (4-2-3-1): Arthur Desmas; Akim Zedadka, Jean-Claude Billong, Alidu Seidu, Arial Mendy; Johan Gastien, Yohann Magnin; Saif-Eddine Khaoui, Jason Berthomier, Jodel Dossou; Mohamed Bayo.
Despite troubling recent results against both Real Madrid and Monaco, last week PSG took one step closer to regaining the title with a 5-1 thrashing of lowly Lorient - the superstar trio of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar providing the goals. Mauricio Pochettino's side are now 12 points clear at the Ligue 1 summit with a game in hand on second-placed Rennes and seem set to dethrone Lille as champions. However, the capital club have lost each of their last four games on the road, and only one of their last seven away matches has seen them take maximum points.
Relegation-threatened Clermont sit 17th in the Ligue 1 standings before today's kick-off, just a point above the dreaded dotted line which separates them from the bottom three - and a place in the promotion/relegation playoff. Last week, Les Lanciers lost 3-2 to Nantes on home soil, returning from the international break with a fourth successive defeat. Pascal Gastien's side are therefore in desperate need of points with just eight games remaining of their 2021-22 campaign - the club's first ever in the French top flight.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of today's Ligue 1 encounter between Clermont and Paris Saint-Germain at Stade Gabriel-Montpied.
