Commentary

India's first ever game on Chinese soil and Stephen Constantine's men return unscathed. As much poor China had been in the final third, India were solid inside their own box. The midfielders have plenty of miles to go but a couple of chances for India, especially the late one for Farukh could have seen the Blue Tigers win the game.
FULL-TIME: China PR 0-0 India.
90' + 5' Gurpreet! He saves twice in between 30 seconds and his kick into the air will be the last action of the game.
90' + 4' Rowllin takes the corner, gets it back after the inital clearance but cannot hold on near the touchline and with the throw-in, China get back the possession.
90' + 3' SAVED! Poojary chest a diagonal ball, lays it through to Farukh who slips in between the defenders but he scuffs his shot and Junling saves it.
90' + 2' Rowllin Borges has been brought on to see through the game. Remember his late goal for NEUFC last week? Maybe he could do that and brings some serious joy to his side.

90' Lippi's face has dropped. His forward men have tried their best but a mixture of Indian defending and luck eluding them has seen China fail to score. We will have five minutes of added time. Can India hold on?
87' ICYMI, Vinit Rai has come on for Halder. Gurpeet has made another tippling save for Hanchao to deliver from the flag but Chinese profligacy in the box is flabbergasting.
85' Penalty? Wu Lei's cross from near the byline has been cleared out by Kotal but clearly with his arms. Referee Ravshan Irmatov signals play on as the Chinese appeal for a spot-kick.

82' Into the last ten minutes of regulation time and India have done well to hold on with a lot of luck for them. Meanwhile, Gurpreet makes a save again, which has been the order of the evening.
80' Jeje could not influence the game and Farukh comes in. Mirahmetjan concedes the corner and Thapa's delivery is pinpoint for Jhingan whose header goes agonisingly over the bar.

76' SAVED! Hanchao's corner for Xiao Zhi is headed right in by the striker but Gurpreet dives to see the ball out for another flagkick. After a melee in the box, where Gurpreet keeps it out somehow, Wu Xi's grounded shot goes wide after Anas tackles him.
74' The story after that near-miss has been similar. China have been prodigiously poor in the final third, or rather unlucky. Gurpreet blasts the ball on the other half and the Indians fall shy in technique to string a series of passes together and lose the ball. The China attack resumes again and this has been on loop for the last three times.
71' CROSSBAR! Oh my word! Cross from the right chested down by Gao Lin and he lays it to Wu Lei who is unmarked. How he misses the back of the net from the volleyed-shot and hits the iron on top escapes me but India then let off for a corner which falls into Gurpreet's hands. LUCK.
69' Side-netting! Yu Hai delivers across the face of goal and with Bose dumbfounded, Xuri attempts a low header but grazes the outside netting.
68' India have another freekick to defend from 28 yards as Gao Lin shoots it over. From the goalkick, Narzary rips in from the left and he tries to find Jeje from the cross but his attempt is so far off.

65' WIDE! Kotal argues that it was his thigh and not his arm while blocking the ball. Wu Lei is on the freekick and the delivery is pinpoint for Gao Lin but his header goes wide.

63' Constantine making his own raft of changes. Anas will now play centre-half with Bose moving to the side. Udanta is drained out. Good to see Poojary getting some vital minutes.
60' Yu Hai floats one in for Gao Lin but Gurpreet leaps the highest to collect it on the aerial. An hour gone, India still unbreached.

58' Yellow card Yiming Liu
58' A freekick for India as substitute Liu Yiming brings down Thapa but nothing comes off it as it is in their own half. India treading very slowly in the opposition half.
56' Narzary does ever so well to make a diagonal run after winning the ball himself across the middle channel. While the defenders are busy keeping a check on Jeje, he finds Udanta but his shot from inside the box goes over. Great move.
55' WIDE! Yu Hai gets a free header from the edge of the box as Xuri's freekick is on point but the attempt does not trouble Gurpreet.
53' Zhao Xuri plays a delightful lob over the head of the Indian defenders for Gao Lin but Sandhu sees the ball away for the corner. Subsequently, the cross comes from the other side after the flag-kick was cleared first time but Jhingan hides Gao Lin to block the cross from Xiaoting.
50' WOODWORK! X Zhi breaks away on the right and his grounded cross is hit by Gao Lin first time to rattle only the upright. Heart attack for India and the striker's dry spell continues. Bose was at fault as he failed to contain his man there.
47' Chance(s)! Wu Lei releases the ball on the right and Das fumbles to keep Gao Lin on check on the edge of the box. He brings the ball for Xuepeng but the left-back fails to take the shot before the ball is cleared. Xi retrieves the ball and his lob in is collected by Gurpreet before substitute Xiao Zhi can get to it.

45' We are back underway in Suzhou as China look to score their first goal in three games as India believe they can earn a draw at least...
China started the game on the frontfoot with the Indians under the cosh. Gurpreet has been brilliant in the first forty-five but the visitor's midfield and attacking nous left a lot to be desired. China tapered off in the last third of this half. Will India hold on or succumb to the Chinese in the second half? Stay tuned...
HALF-TIME: China PR 0-0 India.
45' We will have just a minute added on in the first half.
43' Chance! Junling clears the ball for a throw-in and Chhetri takes it quickly. Jeje makes a stupendous run with the Chinese defenders falling short but his shot is way off target.
42' Jhingan escapes a booking after he goes into Dabao from behind.
41' Wang Tong goes forward as he sees Xuri play a decent bal on the right. Das comes into the game as he gifts a corner. The flagkick is played short and Xi's cross is cleared off by Thapa easily.
39' Slowly, China take control of the game back. Xiaoting plays a through to Xuepeng and his cross sees Dabao take a tumble inside the box. The ball whizzes past Wu Lei and Bose clears it out.
36' Narayan Das has made two crosses in the last three minutes. He has been clueless to find a teammate and it has to be said that China too have taken their foot off the pedal. Noteworthily, Indian players have been shy of committing thier bodies to retrieve the ball from the Chinese.
34' Interestingly, China have shuffled their system. Wu Lei on the left now and Lin on the right. However, they have stuck with their 4-3-3 and have been ultra-attacking.
32' India string a pass of three or more this time and the results show. Thapa releases Das brilliantly and a sweet backpass to Narzary sees the Assam-born swing in a cross for Chhetri on the right side but Junling leaps to collect the ball mid-air.
30' Half and hour gone, India have still held fort in China. The visitors have had a little less than 40% of possession but have been forced to play inside their own box. Gurpreet has been solid so far.
28' Half a chance! Kotal fails to anticipate the incoming ball on his weaker side as Gao Lin tricks him on the run. However, the Guangzhou Evergrande man takes a touch too many as Kotal goes back and blocks the shot.
26' A dirty stamp on Jeje by defender Yu Yang will see India earn a freekick in their own half. However, that set-piece has totally been wasted by Halder as he shoots straight for a China goalkick. Staggering!
24' SAVED! Gurpreet pulls off a good one with his left foot! China took the attack from the right, had numbers in the box but a sudden square ball to Gao Lin and the first time shot by the 32-year-old will not go into the net!
21' Jingdao needs some immediate attention after a clash with Halder sees him go down. The referee allowed play to go through but realised it later and blew the whistle. We will resume the game with a drop-ball.
19' OFFSIDE! Thapa committs a foul and Wu Xi's attempt saw Gao Lin being flagged off despite Gurpreet punching the ball out with force.
17' OVER! Chhetri wins a free-kick near the touchline and Thapa is over it. He kicks it long and on the farside for Chhetri whose boot stick to the ground but still gets his first-time shot to go over the crossbar.
15' SAVED! China take the corner short and a curling ball into the box from Xi is headed powerfully by Gao but right into Gurpreet's hands. Close shave!
13' SAVED! India go forward for the first time, Chhetri passes it back to Halder and he goes diagonal to Thapa who lays the ball for an onrushing Kotal who slams the ball goalwards but Junling parries the ball away. Encouraging for the visitors.
10' Indians under the cosh! Jingdao could not find space to cross into the box and earlier, the corner was easily blocked off.
7' Cleared! A stinging attack from the left floundered the Indian defence and Wu Lei grabs the ball right outside the box. A low cross through the gates of Bose had Gurpreet in trouble but Dabao's shot was ultimately cleared out by Jhingan for a corner.
6' Udanta does ever so well to track back and force Xuepeng to loose the ball over the by-line. India get a goal kick.
5' While Gurpreet punched away that flag-kick, Halder blasts it off from the box. Meanwhile, Bose and Dabao clash as we have the first foul of the game.
3' First corner of the game and it goes to the hosts. With Halder being bypassed, skipper Xiaoting comes forward, shimmies and takes aim but is blocked out by Thapa.
2' First wave of Chinese incursion. It comes from the middle as a diagonal through ball from Xi to Wu Lei has too much meat on it and Das can go out to collect the ball for a throw-in.
1' China, in their traditional red, ranked 76th versus India, in their home blue, ranked 97th gets underway in Suzhou...
The players have lined up for the national anthem and the presentation for Zheng and Gao. Kick-off next...
India have a settled side. The only concerns surrounding the fans will be Bose in the centre-back position. He was uninspiring in that one game when playing in that role in the SAFF Championship when Constantine took an U23 team. Thapa, the youngest person on the pitch will look to silence his critics after an indifferent start to the season along with his club mate Jeje.
Marcello Lippi is under pressure to deliver as some fans have called for his head after they lost and played out a goalless draw in the last international break. All eyes will be on the attacking front as Lippi has thought of replicating India's 4-2-3-1 system with Dabao as the sole option up top. Wu Lei and Gao Lin, who has not scored for China from open play since 2014 flanking Jingdao; Xuri and Xi as the holding players. The Italian will need to deliver otherwise questions against one of the highest-paid national team managers in Asia will only pile up.
STAT ATTACK: The last time these two times faced each other was in Kochi in the 1997 Nehru Cup. China won it 2-1. Otherwise, in all their seventeen meetings, India have been winless.
Anas Edathodika, who is yet to play club football this season because of a suspension is on the bench and the U23 captain, Bose slots alongside tonight's captain Jhingan in central defence. Thapa has not been impressive for Chennaiyin but still gets an extended run, keeping out Rowllin Borges. Sunil Chhetri will feel odd not having the armband tonight but interestingly, he has been named as the striker tonight, instead of playing in the hole behind Jeje. We will see how that goes on as the night progresses...
Inspirational leader Zheng Zhi and Gao Lin, both who breached the 100-cap mark will be felicitated right before the game. The former is carrying a niggle and will not participate in the match. Chi Zhongguo also has been rested from the game as China keep him fresh to face Syria three days later in Nanjing. Yu Dabao, the versatile Beijing Guoan man has been put in as the central striker after China's goalscoring woes have been pretty evident of late.
INDIA XI: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu (GK); Pritam Kotal, Sandesh Jhingan (C), Subhasish Bose, Narayan Das; Pronay Halder, Anirudh Thapa; Udanta Singh, Sunil Chhetri, Halicharan Narzary; Jeje Lalpekhlua.
CHINA PR XI: Yan Junling (GK); Wang Tong, Yu Yang, Feng Xiaoting (C), Li Xuepeng; Wu Xi, Zhao Xuri, Jin Jingdao; Gao Lin, Yu Dabao, Wu Lei.
Let us start with the all-important lineups first...
